We need to pencil in an appointment for the Fraulein's photoshoot!

By the way, I got the headlights done at Car Cupid on Sus-Pashan road.

It would have been 55/60w before and now would be 35w.

Oh no please. I am so definitely getting an inferiority complex! Both the (other TBhpian) Ventos in Pune with HIDs and I still roam around with those shitty stock headlights! Postpone this till I get one for my lady!

But I keep thinking otherwise - all these days I have been cursing those "idiots" on the roads with such glaring HIDs blinding me and I now plan to become one of them?

35? Do check it up - should be 55/60 as akshay rightly said! Did you just down-grade?

Yup he did just downgrade on wattage. HIDs are mainly 35w but if you are lucky you might find some 55w ones too. Those are really, really bright.

Saw Fraulein's new angel eyes and the projectors in person the other day and it looked fabulous. The angular look of the Vento is accentuated by the new headlight set. It just left me wondering why these things don't come as stock in the first place, or at least an option.

Nice one noop and quite tempting as well. It changes the look of the car completely. One first glance looks like a BMW... ( don't really know how jetta looks from the front- does it have projectors and angel eyes as well?) the cost is also tempting. The day I get time on hands, I think I will also get it done

Cool man. What about warranty?

I guess my car is too new for me to dare right now.

re: My Fräulein arrives: Vento AT- Update: 30,000 km/2nd service & new shoes!

Yes- it is a downgrade in terms of outright power but believe me the new lamps are wonderful compared to stock. My wife was more thrilled than me once we started driving with the new lights (and she NEVER appreciates anything mods I make ). Here is a sample of the throw- this is behind my building (the darkest place I could find):

A close-up of the projector in headlamp ON position:

Another shot- this time in parking lamp ON position. The original parking lamps (dismal) have been disconnected. The parking lights now display only the corona rings. Which doesn't help in terms of visibility but look gorgeous!

Sorry for the weird angle- it was the only way I could capture the pic without the light from the rings getting diffused.

@Ali- by warranty do you mean on the lamps or voiding of the VW warranty because of the mods? The former is a categoric NO- if a bulb blows for example, I will have to shell out in excess of 2K for a replacement. For the latter, I went ahead and took a risk. Since there is no rewiring of any sort (this things is plug-and-play, pretty much), am hoping for the best even if something does go wrong. But yes, technically, any change from stock specs does void your VW warranty.

Noop, I doubt this would void the warranty. As rightly said by you, there is no cutting/rewiring involved as such and its only a change of bulbs. Pretty much, a plug and play thing. The only other change you have done, is get that Angel eyes effect, by coloring the inside black. But then again, that is no reason for warranty being void.

Mikon: I believe you too can get this done, with the lights remaining as is.

Ninja: What are you waiting for? Christmas? Or is it the appraisal .

1.Pure laziness. The daily Pune yatra saps my energy and any thoughts of doing other stuff.
2.The stupid thought in my mind of not being the one blinding folks on the highway (pretty sure once I see noop's ride, that'll disappear).
3.Hard to believe, but its true. Work. Loads of it.
4.Weekends haven't been free. Nagar district trip last weekend, a trip to Aurangabad this weekend, Bombay next weekend. Thankfully the last weekend is a flight to Chennai, snd nothing else.

Now you tell me, when should I get it done?

The headlights are awesome ! Does VW have any plan of upgrading them in the coming versions? The stock ones are very bad and had a bad experience of not seeing a big speed breaker on a state highway. I was doing about 90 KMPH then and braked and then was became airborne despite the brake + ABS. Landed safely and checked the car, it was ok and fine to drive.

Ummm...it's a little more than that. Basically the projector and bulbs need to be physically transplanted into the headlight assembly, which requires it to be opened, the projector and bulbs inserted and the whole thing glued back together again. Takes a whole day (plus another to dry off!)

If I am not mistaken, HIDs *without projectors* have this way of diffusing, especially in rainy conditions, and blinding oncoming traffic. So far no motorist has complained about glare (normal headlamps on high beam are much worse!) and I have never felt the need to engage high-beam except on the highway with nobody in front of me.
