If i set aside 15L for possible repairs in future do you think that will be enough or i will need more money. Is it likely to cost me more than what i paid for the car?

If the car checks out and on your feedback I will hopefully buy it on Monday.

Since you already have a Diesel Sedan from the segment then you shoud let your heart win this time . The V8 sure is awesome! Plus 15 lacs is more than sufficient if you have access to a good workshop. BTW where are you located, could not make out from your profile.

Ok, then you have access to BMW dealers at both ends. Do take the car to either workshops for a full scan and history check, will be well worth it!

Waiting to hear from the owner. He is at X price and i am at X-3. Another few days.

I have lined up other options if the deal doesnt go through.

1. BMW 320D High line fully loaded. 15K Km 2012 at 23
2. Merc C220 CDI avantgarde 2014 5k Km at 35

Whats your opinion?

Buy the 320 and tune up. Buy Merc wait for waranty to expire and then tune up.

Well, in this case the C220 would be better because its new, but then why is it being sold so soon needs to be checked.

The 320d has a lot of potential for tuning and fun to drive car. But then you will not have the exclusivity of the 6'er.

These 2 options come as an anti climax all of a sudden.

This will be most sensible option which you are going to enjoy , the kick that you will get from beemer can't be experienced in Merc . Check if you can extend warranty of BMW on payment

Or buy a brand new BMW 5 series with your budget of 45 + 15 with a BSI for 5 years or so and enjoy it with peace of mind

Wow, skin of teeth there? Could you share how this 'wrong information regarding ownership and registration' was detected by you. Just as a pointer for some of others to bear in mind. Thanks much. And sorry about the deal going kaput, but I am sure you will get new wheels very soon. Cheers !

Fiddler - IMHO, 45 Lacs is not the right price for a 2008 650i. A very well maintained 2008 650i sells here (in the states) for less than $30k, (some of them even have Dinan performance package).

Here is my math on the pricing,

Fair Price in the US - $30k = INR 18 Lacs
100% premium for India import (lets say we are importing a used car which you can't) = 18 Lacs

Fair Price in India = 18+18 = 36 Lacs

Even if you add another 4 Lacs just because there are not many 650i's around, the total amount you would pay would be 40 Lacs.

If I were you, I would not pay anything more than 36 Lacs - its just me :-)

Good luck with the purchase, great choice.

If you need a little extra horsepower, there is a Dinan stage-2 tune available. Dinan is a BMW approved tuner.

Cheers

Fiddler,

New 530D comes in at around 60 Lacs on Road in Bangalore after negotiations. If you can spring for something like this, I'd highly recommend it. Even a new 328i could be right up your alley. Or you could hang on for a few months and see if the Jag XE S is coming our way. Maybe look at a new/pre-owned Audi S4. The new Mercedes E350 looks extremely promising as well and may just make all the correct compromises for speed, handling and comfort. If the current 5/3 has a drawback it is the bounciness at higher speeds while the E stays planted. The seats in the Bimmers (Sports seats i.e.) are far more comfortable than in the Mercs, but with drive ability and ride quality in real world conditions, Mercedes probably wins/loses by a nose hair or a mile, depending on what you are looking at, in-fact they are both so similar that if one tried making a decision by tossing a coin, it'd land on its edge.

While none of these addresses your dream of a V8, they're all really good fun to drive!

kind regards

imp

Is it the pre-facelift or the post-facelift model?

I have seen immaculately maintained 2010 models command a value in higher 30's. Also, there are cars listed above 40 at the dealer lots and most of them stay there for months together. But then again, the price would entirely depend on how the car has been specced and maintained.

Since the car is almost 8 years old, keep aside a very good sum for maintenance. Wear and tear will soon start dropping into the picture.
