Baleno - now with a Red Rooster free flow

After 5+ years, I decided to get a free flow for my Baleno. Initially thought of removing just the secondary cat but then after reading different threads, decided to get the full free flow.

Red rooster performance is on my way to office , spoke to them and got it done last weekend. They had headers and exhaust in stock for baleno. It took about 3 hours for the installation . I wanted a silent car with performance, they did a good job but it's not silent as I wanted. The drone inside the cabin is annoying for daily use, can't live with it . I spoke to Mr. Leela after the installation regarding the sound , he said they can install a reverse muffler(not in stock, may be next week or may be later) to get rid of the boom sound .

The work at Red Roosters was very satisfactory and professional. Just waiting for the muffler swap .

Overall the car feels much free now, there is no difference in pickup with or without AC. In gear acceleration is smooth , no jerks when I change gears.

In traffic conditions car pulls very smoothly, I tried driving at 30 kph with AC. at 4th gear without any shudder.
I am running on koni setup which keeps the car planted even at high speeds and with Free Flow added Its Surely A Fun Car now.

Congrats on the getting a FFE done mate, a must do for the baleno.

Unlikely that you would be able to find any difference in a stock car too. AFAIK and being an ex-owner the baleno has never missed a beat with the AC on. The 3rd gear was always a hoot to drive around in the city with the oodles of torque it provided.

Since it was a RRP , did you get a chance to run the car on the dyno to see the difference in the HP and torque ?

No I could not get any dyno test as they were busy with some rally cars. Ill see if I can get this done when I visit them next .

Some queries:

1. Is this tuned for low/mid or high ? The former would be the best setup for regular usage.
2. Is it SS or MS? I'm unable to determine after looking at the images: there seems to be both.

To best compliment the exhaust, do get a nice performance air filter as well.

From the pictures posted looks like a 4x2x1 setup so low/mid. Am sure he wouldn't need a 4x1 setup for city driving unless the OP has rally genes .

Congrats on the FFE

ideally the dyno run would make sense if you had done a run prior to the installation as well. else it may not depict the correct performance of the FFE.

pricing seems quite ok given that automech charged approx 12k for my OHC FFE about 6 years back ( presume they must have hiked to about 15k by now )

Re: Baleno - now with a Red Rooster free flow

@theMAG. It is MS and I guess it is tuned for low and mid, but RRP guys told me its a linear torque setup.

Re: Baleno - now with a Red Rooster free flow

Today I finally got the muffler changed to a reverse one. It's absolutely stock silent now, exactly the way I wanted it. There is a slight drop in performance may be 5% to10% from my previous setup. This muffler looks exactly like the stock one but flows much better with less restriction. Will post some videos soon.

Congrats on the FFE.

Have you had an opportunity to test the mileage post FFE installation?
Was there anything else that you wanted/thought could be better on the FFE?

You seem happy with the results enjoy your ride .

I'm surprised by the fact that O2 sensor feedback is being taken only from one cylinder and not from all. Your car will be running lean.

I had the same doubt when I got the FFE fixed on my car at RRP and the technician mentioned that it would not affect the mixture or readings in anyway as the reading from one cylinder would work just as fine as the stock set-up.

Ask him to come onto this thread and mention the same statement with the same conviction. What vikram_d mentioned is correct- the engine will be running lean.

Not sure but this post from classified section looks similar but from automech , O2 sensor feedback is from one cylinder again .

What exactly do you mean by "running lean"
