Chosen well, a number-plate's style, size & font can definitely add character to your car. Which one is your favourite?

Thread moved out from the Assembly Line. Thanks for sharing!

I'm a sucker for the DC font. Believe Dilip Chhabria started using this style on his modded cars and soon enough, every number-plate shop in Bombay adopted it. I first used it on my '96 Esteem, and thereon most of my cars (my '97 Jeep still wears a DC font plate) have had that plate. This is definitely my favourite.

2nd choice is the IND style which I think looks very smart, despite being terribly common.

Never understood the fuss over the German font. It's quite a fad these days and I spot a lot of cars wearing it.

Don't know which style Audi's dealers in Bombay use, but those plates are just wow!

I voted for the regular IND font that comes with the high security number plates. I find itt he most appealing and definitely adds character to your car.

Personally however I have otherwise been fine with whatever style the dealer gives the car with. However from last 2-3 years now, all new cars come with HSRPs with IND font.

I voted for Speedex Font 1 for it's clarity and my Order of preference is
1. Speedex Font 1
2. IND Font
3. Acrylic 3D Font 2
4. Acrylic 3D Font 1
5. German Font
6. DC Font
then Others.

Is 'IND Font' the only acceptable Font of High Security Number Plates? or any Font that meets the thickness and width to height ratio is acceptable?

Of this list, I'll take the Speedex Font 2. Others I would try are Speedex Font1, and the Acrylic 3D.

I like squarish fonts. Long back, in 1991 I got the black stickers and cut the numbers myself for my bike. Repeat in 1999. In 2009, a fellow BHP-ian helped me get embossed number plates for my Ikon - from Chennai ! All because I wanted a specific font that was not available in Bangalore :)

I selected others, I am one of those guys who think that as long as the number plate is legible and is confirming to the laws, that should be it. Like, how many times will I really look at my own number plate?stupid: and hence, I always stick to the number plates the dealer provides melol:

Same here. I think the only time I have changed the stock plates is once where the front plate on my car got damaged.

Whatever the dealer fits on my car. Not too fussy about neither number plate font, number plate design nor registration number.

I like the Team-BHP forum font though. :)

I voted for Speedex font 2.

I had multiple fonts on my car and bikes over the years. It is one of the easiest parts to replace and change the look of a bike or car.

Some of the plates I had through the years;

If I could choose and had the time to follow up on the font, I'd pick Roboto. It's the default font on Android phones and the way it is designed is to be easy to read and pleasant to look at. Functional glory. Sample: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Roboto

I believe the objective of a number plate is to be quick to read. If I did want something that's a little showy I stop caring about readability (but still stay within limits where law enforcement doesn't have a problem), I'd probably pick this: http://www.1001fonts.com/guttural-font.html

German font for me - Just because the IND font has become too mainstream and now we have permutations and combinations out of it :D With the German font on both my cars, they have a clean look, not too many curves and those 0, 9 and 6 dont look like pumpkins. If you notice the K, 3 and 1 in the examples, you will get to know what I mean. Earlier had IND on my WagonR and it was just a part of the crowd without anything special. At least the German is not yet so popular in Bangalore, which makes it stand out especially with the frame.

In Kolkata we have HSRP as mandatory. So all number plates have the IND font and in my opinion that's the best of the lot.

Still remember those bengali number plates which read like "doblu bee" [Read:WB] :) before HSRP was made a mandate.

Guys,

Doesn't the DoT specify regulations on number plate design and font styles?

Tamil Nadu's Traffic Police Department insists on one particular format and ruthlessly fines any other style.

In fact, last year they charged fines and also forcibly removed one of the IND plates from every vehicle caught.

I told the cop that even the PM's car ran with IND plates and he said he could only carry out what he was told to do. :Frustrati
