I'm sure of the above base car, definetely it's a Rover Montego Estate saloon, which was released as Station wagon, along with the Montego sedan.
That's not a Rover, definitely looks like a typical 90s japanese station wagon. It might be a Nissan Sunny bluebird, can't be sure though.

Although well executed, I have to ask...why do such a weird repair/mod?

If one can't afford restore an old import after a front end AND rear end shunt, one should just stick to driving cheap Indian bangers!

Anyway, as Nathan says, he's put in effort, but the result is horrendous.

Edit:
Here's a Bimal "special edition" swift. Not sure if it's wacky but I guess it's weird.
Esp. the alloys (by plati) and the silver grille. And someone actually bought it.
The Swift looks really nice and way better than the horrendous jobs done by Vitesse in Mumbai. And the silver grille is perfectly OK and goes with the subtle two-tone paintjob. To each his own.

.....

And the red Amby posted by Scorcher is a fully modified Amby with a swapped straight six engine, ICE the works.

IIRC, that yellow Sierra was green and black when DC did it, and it was done at a time when he designed mods that actually looked okay. It looked very macho back then. It was called the Sierra Karma, and was featured in a pepsi ad. Does anyone have the pic of the original DC Sierra Karma? It was in one of the Auto India issues.

The indica with the ladder wins the race here. Thats the wackiest mods i have ever seen. Why would one need a ladder in an Indica??

After seeing Maruti 800 and an auto rickshaw having ladders on this thread, this still looks well executed

I never knew that Hyundai sold i10 by barcode. Now next time I can (pick) buy it off-the-shelf from any shopping mall.

Take care.

re: Pics of weird & wacky mod jobs in India!

The Indigo and the Sierra don't rate as wacky, IMO. The roof rails on the Indigo look better than a luggage rack would have, the spoiler is subtle. The chrome garnish on the tail lamp though is another matter. In any case, isn't it a Factory option on several cars? I know that the Pajero has it as option and the Tavera too.

The Sierra's rear door is a much tamer solution than several mods I've seen where the side opens up completely. The Sumo Victa lamps would have looked much better if he'd also added the grille from it. The Indica with the ladder is quite at home in this thread.

The Pulsar looks much better than some horrible ones we've seen here. The paintjob isn't overdone, the proportions look alright at the rear. Front is a different matter, but it might look better once the missing windscreen is added. He should probably invest in new tyres too, these are slicks now.

I'm very much interested in buying that 'contraption' and taking it to a nearby scrapyard!

Did you tell the owner how weird and wacky his 'modified vehicle' is?

What would I not give to see this thing with a flat tire and the owner scratching his head and wondering what to do now?
Mayapuri is full of such crap.

Then take look at this. Not for the scrapyard definitely. Saw this in Kochi at the Vanitha exhibition car park.
