TurnPlus is an assistive mechanism installed to the car's seat to allow easy ingress and egress to those with special needs.



The mechanism can be attached to any car seat. The seat is first removed. The mechanism is then installed and the seat is put back in place. The seat rotates 90-degrees and more than 50% of it comes outside the vehicle, allowing for easy ingress and egress. No modifications are made to the car's structure or to the seat's reclining and sliding functions.

The swiveling and sliding seat can be used by pregnant women, elderly people and people with medical conditions like arthritis, multiple scelerious, paralytic cases, traumatic brain injury, stroke, backbone ailments, spinal cord ailments, knee related ailments, amputees, polio cases, all wheel users and those with Parkinsons.



The assembly costs Rs. 45,000 excluding taxes. For installations outside Bangalore, an additional charge will be applicable. Turnaround time is 4 weeks from the date of payment.

Interesting design, but its not a new development. I first came to know about it when I was researching about export model Suzukis.

In the 80s and 90s, Suzuki had some models like the Suzuki Side Slim which featured such swivel seats and sliding doors for easy ingress/egress.

Even our SB308 chassis based some model came with such swivel seats. The total cost of importing the mechanism from Japan was close to 30k IIRC.

Such features are common in many Kei cars in Japan.

The swivel feature will be useful not only for disabled persons, but also regular users of front seats and even rear captain seats. How comfortable will it be just to swivel and put a leg down, rather than twisting and stretching the body after hours of seating to get out of the vehicle!

Most Japanese cars in the Japan domestic market uses this. The mechanism is very simple. On the floor, below the front passenger seat, there is a frame which fits onto the underside of the co-driver seat. A chain/pulley mechanism ensures the slight forward and then left-turn to move the seat out.
Trivia: because of its popularity , Japanese Kei car makers design their cars to take this kind of seat. Notice the left front door sill of the Indian Wagon-R. It's not a full straight line - but dips down slightly. This is to accomodate the swivel and travel of the mechanised seat.
Glad that it's coming to India. It will be a huge benefit to the infirm and elderly folk.
