I think he means those are unidirectional tires, which is supposed to rotate in only a specific direction to effectively channel out water, and the grooves on your Fiat's tire are reversed.

I don't remember the exact pic, so I can't be sure which picture to use as reference.

What I do know is that it is one of the most beautiful cars (not Premiers, not Fiats) I have ever seen, your Fiat.

I think he meant something or anything else, because in none of those puctures the 'rotation' arrow is prominent. Also that way the tires are mounted in right direction and I've done 30k kms change since then, flawlessly.

re: Modded Premier Padminis (Fiat 1100)

Ever heard of 4X4 Fiats? Check this modified 1959 Fiat 1100.

Its owner took a 1959 Fiat 1100 sedan and added a Toyota frame, a Toyota engine, Unimog axles and a beefy external roll cage.

Early Premier Safari, estate car body (the correct Italian term is Familiare) by Starline Auto Builders (SAB), Tardeo, Bombay. Premier Automobiles would ship out cars without rear glass and without trunklid. Starline would do the rest to build a Familiare body.

There have been Fiat 1100/103 Station Wagons of all vintages from the Dukkar Fiat through the Millecento, 1100/103, Speciale, etc.

In India, there were hammer-weld-n-putty shops that converted Fiat 1100s, 1100Ds and Padminis to estate cars (in some countries a.k.a. station wagon, variant, kombi, shooting brakes, familare...), ambulances, hearses and sedan-deliveries (in other countries a.k.a. delivery vans and panel vans).

The best known of the Indian bodyshops was Starline Auto Builders (SAB) Tardeo, Bombay. They called their offering the Premier Safari.
Premier Automobiles Ltd. shipped partly completed cars "Drive Away Chasses" to SAB who converted them to estate cars, sedan deliveries, even a mini Thums-Up carrier.

Some even had the front end modified to accommodate rectangular headlamps from a Tata truck. These were the only rectangular headlamped car in India, before Maruti's 800 bowed in 1983.

Their beauty or ugliness lay in the eye of the beholder. Late model SAB Safaris had curved rectangular recessed tail-lamps and large sweeping windows between the C-pillar and D-pillar and a hatch with washer/wiper equipped backlight.

Many people who bought them, picknicked and enjoyed in them and cherish long lost memories of them. Then again, there were people who couldn't stand the sight of them.

Great collection, but I think steel rims looks better than alloys on these fiats. Well maintained of course.

Agree. Not just the rims, the Padmini/ FIAT in stock condition looks best IMHO.

An yesteryear mod job that I found to be quite appealing.
