Well not quite. If you can get the XD3P engined 4WD Invader its a good vehicle for sreerajunnithan type of use.

Invader: 2474mm

Bolero: 2680mm

Ok guys,

Here is the update….

1) MM540 1991 Model 2WD 4 Speed GB
Price 66000

2) MM540 Model Not sure, 4Speed GB and 3ltr MaXX pickup engine :-O
Modified, and reduced the chassis :-O and fixed with a CJ3B body :-O
Too much of modifications, and asking price 2.5 Nego. Is't is too much of
Modifications? And I will loose the look of MM540. As I told you I already have CJ3B.

3) MM540 92 model, nothing fancy, 2WD 4 Speed GB asking price is 1.5L

4) MM550 97 Model 2WD and 5 Speed GB asking price is 2 L

As I Told you I was looking for a highway cruiser and posh looking jeep. But after going thru the off-roading forum and watching all available off roading videos of Jeep Thrills, in youtube, I changed my mind, and I am going for a 4WD. I know off roading is easier said than done. But I will definitely contribute my time and learn the tactics of this sports, no matter whatever it takes. I did lot of two wheeler off roading with my Machismo, and i know off roading in jeep is altogether a different ball game. So guys, please help me to find a 4WD MM540/550. It there is any model which comes in 5 Speed GB and 4WD? I know Invader and Major come in this class. Any other MM540/550?

Finding a good 4x4 MM540 with 5 Speed is very hard. You may have to settle for a 4 - Speed.

Hi,

There is a dealer in Kanakapura road, Bangalore before Metro hypermart, who sells used Jeeps, mostly 2WD. When i went there 2 months ago, he has about 8 Jeeps for sale, most of them 2WD MM540s 94-99 models. These are pretty basic machines without any modifications. Asking price between 80k-1.2laks based on the model and condition of the jeep. However you can easily bargain. This guy offered 1998 MM540 for 75K (initially quoted 1.2laks).

He does have a 2001 DI engined CL500 (i am not sure on the model, though it is a flat fender one) which he is quoting 1.7laks negotiable.

This guy rarely gets 4WD Jeeps. If you are still considering 2WD, i suggest you check out this guy. PM me if you need driving directions for this place.

Btw, check out the Jeepthrills yahoogroup and Orkut communities. I heard one member is planning to sell his MM540.

OT: Recently i bought a MM540 from a friend of mine . I havent taken possession of it yet.

I was hoping you had some.
My FIL had a SWB CJ which he sold for a paltry 30K without letting me know. I still think about that jeep everyday.

Search, Search and Search again, But in Vain
How about converting a 2WD to 4WD, i heard there could be a problem in endorsing 4WD to RC. There is a 1997 5Speed MM540. any idea what this engine could be? And is it possible to convert it to 4WD, if yes, what would be the coast? and how to source the parts?

Thanks

It is possible to convert and would cost around 25K max i believe. Sourcing parts is not a big issue. India Garage in Bangalore should be able to help. We could do it in Chennai too if you plan to make it this side of town!

5 Speed GB on a MM540

I dont know whether this is the right forum to post this. Mods, please shift it if found inappropriate.

I have a '87 model MM 540 with the 2112 cc Peugeot engine and 4 speed gearbox. At 60 kmph, there is enough and more power, the jeep responds very well when I press the throttle, but I still feel the lack of a 5th gear.

Is it possible to mate a 5 speed gearbox to the existing engine ? I dont want to change the engine. If so, which gear box would be suitable ? Is it a straight fit or some modifications would be needed ? How much would a used 5 speed gear box cost ?

I know, too many questions. But I am still a rookie when it comes to jeeps.

Thanks

KD

@kd7202:
Is your jeep 4WD or 2WD? Sourcing a 5-Speed gearbox with 4x4 transfer case will be difficult. If it is 2WD, you can try to source any Bolero 5Speed gearbox. Price will be about 25 to 30K + for 2WD gearbox.

The other problem is that Mahindra never offered the 2112 cc with a 5 Speed so you won't get an OEM bell housing to mate the gearbox to the engine.

To be honest mate, it is not worth the effort. Better to just live with the 4 Speed gearbox.
