After selling my elantra crdi was searching for replacement car and these were shortlisted.
( More info about my previous car here..
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modifi...ntra-crdi.html)
- Cruze - 150bhp - 330nm
- Skoda Superb - 160bhp - 350nm(old)
- Sonata Embera - 150bhp - 330nm
- Magnum - 120bhp - 314nm
Discarded these for..
Cruze - Just 15nm of torque more over a magnum and high price.
Skoda Superb - Again costly to maintain forget about buying.
Sonata embera - Found that clutch & flywheel is close to lakh.
Magnum was finalised for its
Torque - 314nm.
Reliability - Not heard much complaints.
Price - 6.3lkhs for a pre-worshipped car.
Maintainance - Almost as Verna crdi.
ABS - A Must for me.
Mods to follow soon..
@raj.barcode - Thanks for PS.

Dont spill the beans so early dude, The car is already in the garage after my review.
Congrats! I think you bought the car sometime back, as I have seen this in the meet pics?
I guess there is a line up of mods?
A/c had given up prematurely on a car known to me. Not sure it is a one-ff case. Also, the oil-sump seem to be placed a bit too low?
Appreciate a brief comparison with the Elantra.

Yes, but each and every mod is being tried to get the best out of magnum and once successful will be posted.

Car has now done 46k kms and no sign of A/c problems.

For my driving styles till date have not scraped oil sump so lets wait and watch. It may also be a reason that people use 50 profile tyre instead of 60 which reduces the ground clearance drastically.

Elantra vs Magnum
- Stock Magnum can easily overtake a peted Elantra.
- Magnum does not handle/brake like elantra which am currently rectifying.
- Magnum interiors/exteriors are way better than Elantra.
These are the major differences i found.
Planned Mods
==========
- Re-map/Petes box
- Upgrade suspension to handle the massive torque.
- Tarox rotors for braking
- Green cotton filter
- Light force HIDs
- Down pipe rework for free flow.
- Sway bar

Contrats!!! Magnum is fun to drive and the post 2K performance is addictive. The only problem is that the handling doesnt match its engine performance.
Im really interested to see how the suspension upgrade would affect handling handling. Also looking forward to your review after petes box
Hey Rajeev, congrats on the new car. Its been so many for you from the last year! I always liked the magnum and guess its a great machine!
Just a quick thought- so many mods planned on a brand new car! Maybe enjoy the stock for some months, before making the beast more insane! :)
But I know what mods mean to you! So, when you finish all the planned stuff, let me know. I couldn't taste the elantra, would want to have a go on this!
Thanks all.

Sure.
Replaced engine oil with Shell Helix 5w40 to reduce wear n tear of the engine.

Nice, now that's a great pre-worshipped car. The Optra has a very good reliability rating. That, combined with the ride, space, torquey diesel and quick depreciation make for a super deal. Congrats! Which year is she?

Good list. In line with the others, really keen to know how the suspension mods improve her dynamics. Which specific parts & brand have you zeroed in on? I'm unhappy with the stock suspension of my Civic and have it on my to-do list as well.
Here's a thread for you :
Remaps versus tuning boxes for Diesels
@GTO - thanks for the title change.

Check out HKS suspension(1lkh) for Civic from RD karthik, bangalore. Got good reviews about it.
Objective: "To rectify magnum tcdi handling at high speeds"
Problem: "Initially, I was not able to unleash the beast at corners, undulation roads and carefully drive on humps with 5 people. I guess this was the main problem for most of magnum owners while taking corners at high speeds."
Conversation between me and TDI racing tuner before the job
Me - What is the cost?
TDi guys - 20k.
Me - Are you guys just changing stock suspension oil to a harder one?
TDi guys - Not just that there is lot more to it.
Me - What is that?
TDi guys - Cant be revealed.
Me - How many kms does these suspension last for?
TDi guys - 80k kms or more, depends on your driving styles.
Me - How much time does it take to do the job?
TDi guys - 2 days.
Me - After mods if i dont like the job can you replace it with the stock setup.
TDi guys - Yes, If you are not satisfied dont pay a penny.
Finally Installed custom built suspension from TDItacing.
Job was completed on December 3rd and was eagar to check
PES college-->Cloverleaf NICE road and back which is perfect blend to test the car for its
- Undulation roads
- Top speeds tests
- Corners which is as good as testing cars on Tracks.
Finally tested the car yesterday with Raj.barcode as he stays near by.
Magnums handling is now rectified by installing custom suspension for all four sides:thumbs up. Taking corners at high speeds is now childs play. Car is planted all the way on undulation roads, no signs of swaying at high speed cornering which left me impressed for the amount paid. Overall i am happy with this setup. The car is now neither too comfortable as stock nor as hard as a track setup car, Its inbetween which is good sign for a Street
car which was my prime requirement.
