I have installed ROOTS windstones in my SX4 recently and I am not at all happy with the tone as compared to FIAMM I had in my Indica and have in my M800.

Sound is it punny and not as heavy as it is in FIAMM.

What can be done? Is this how it sounds?

Hi ultimatechamp,

Why not eBay India? Just search for Stebel. I bought my Stebel Magnums off a seller named Autobahn India. Reached me (from Mumbai) in 1 day flat!

Got FIAM horn installed on my Ikon for Rs 400.
Has the usual hi-tone and low-tone twin horns but is DAMN LOUD. Every time i blow it no-matter what car/bike in front they MOVE. And man it feels good. Infact i have seen bikers getting scared when i blow the horn behind them.

I compared it with a Roots Megasonic(for Rs.650ish) and Roots actually felt under-powered(if at all it is the correct term to use here)as compared to the FIAM.
Though this is a local make manufactured in Gurgaon, it is exported, the bar-code on the pack explains it. And it has been a month after installtion and the car has gone through flooded places in the rains etc and the horn is working absolutely fine.(As the horns are located very close to the lower bumper.)
I had Roots Vibrasonic earlier and they were no where close to these Fiams. The Roots used to conk off whenever water entered them or whenever i used to drive in the rains and one fine day they gave up. Nothing of this sort happens with the Fiam inspite of them located at the same place.

I got then from Palika Bhavan, New Delhi locted opposite to Hyatt Hotel.

Roots Mega and Bosch Europa looks similar right? I thought both will sound the same in terms of loudness.

I intend to get Europa. Is it worth or do I have another option?

Hav'nt seen the Bosch Europa ever so cant comment and Rs.1750 is a bit too steep for a horn IMHO.

I have heard Bosch Europa jkd ! Thats why I could say its LOUD ,REAL LOUD!
But its big and no matter how I tried, couldnt fit it anywhere in my engine bay in my Estilo.Initially,I planned to fit it in the engine bay,on the right hand side shock absorber pillar, with a sturdy custom-made clamp. But two horns wont fit there. My second option was to fit it just behind the grill, again with custom made clamps.I backed out as even the installer was not too sure about the viability. The main problem is because of their immense weight, they would tend to vibrate, thereby reducing their effectiveness.

Rs 1400 plus Rs 200 fitting charges, including the price of clamps.

Thanks itwasntme.Am not pretty sure about buying from eBay.Theres a lot of no-no in this board as well as in this thread, about buying stuff from eBay.Do they sell new products or is it just used ones? Are the prices authentic? One chap had procured from eBay,and his thing came in a opened pack wrapped in an issue of economic times!!Am just sceptical! But since You say,I will definitely search it on eBay today.Thanks.

Thanks for the inputs. "Auditioned it" again today. Bought the 1400Rs one which is matt black. 1750Rs one has the chrome grill, that 350rs extra!

Also bought a Bosch relay for 140Rs. Its bloody small! Will upload a pic of that. Hope the TASS guys do a good job with fitting it behind the grill firmly.

Was charged 750Rs for fitting the Bosch Europa behind the front grill. The work is good. Was impressed at how neat the job was done by TASS as no scratches etc where the switch is placed.

Where on earth did you get the Nautilus from?Is it the Stebel Nautilus Brio?
Please give us some details and the costs involved. Thanks

Jkd,
Thanks a ton.The Bosch Europa indeed was quoted to me for Rs 1400,the black colored one.But the 'sound' is awesome! Hope you get the full benefit,as sometimes fitting it behind the grill makes it a little less louder. Do let us know your experience.

Is it the relay ticking sound?

If you intend to buy a new relay check out the Bosch/Mico one.

Yesterday I fitted original Hella Red Grill in my Estilo at last
I was searching them for a month now,and was also searching for the Nautilus. But none of the Kolkata stores could get me the Nautilus.Even they tried looking for it in Delhi and Mumbai but apparently, the Nautiluses are out of stock there too. That made me decide upon Red grill.

I auditioned the much cheaper (Rs 500 ) Indian version of the Red grill which comes in a Hella packing. The 'sound' was crap. Then I auditioned the original Hella. It was awesome. It took about 2 hrs to get it fitted.

The cost was as follows:

Hella Red Grill (original) -Rs 1600
Roots horn relay -Rs 80
Changeover switch, wiring & custom made clamp -Rs 150
Labour -Rs 50

Total = Rs 1880 ( I paid him Rs 1800 )

The experience-after :

Me and my better half had gone to a party last night. While returning from it,she told me I was nuts when I started honking below all the flyovers. The sound is simply mind blowing.Later a bike was honking at me from the back.I let it pass and saw a couple on it driving like crazy.I started honking at them as soon as it passed me.The girl riding the pillion had a incredulous look on her face and they stopped at the side and let me go!!

After thoughts:

I know this has been expensive, but it is worth every penny.Especially when you have to deal with pesky auto drivers and silly bus drivers on pathetic kolkata roads.
