Re: IBA Rides- Preparation, Route, Planning thread

Bhushan,
For all these things, JC Road is better.

WD40+OKS Chain Lube (Motor Cycle Components, JC Road. Once you enter the JC road, from Jayanagar side, first you get a signal, right here will take you to Uravashi Theatre, do not take the right. Just 50 meters after the signal, there is a small right. Take that)
Acc/Clutch cables (You might get at MCC)
Spark plug (You might get at MCC)
Puncture kit (You might get at MCC)
Foot pump (with gauge preferably) - (Try at MCC if not, any automobile stores in the same area)

I would suggest, call just dial take the MCC number and ask them if they have all these items.

Also, keep me in loop about your trail runs, might join you guys.

With regards to bags, I have ordered one tail bag for my CBR and might get it by next tuesday or wednesday. You can try that and if fits you can use it.

Will give you a call tonight, for the trial run.
Will check your bags too! (let me know, when they are in.)

For pic of my suspension:

Any clue, if any common tool can help in adjustment?

Thanks,

Ace.

I think the tool which i have will work, only doubt would be the distance between two groves where we plug the tool.
Let me know about your trail runs and we can try it.

Great! (Lets see how comfortable it is to adjust on the go!)
will give you a call!
planning Saturday morning (but, its too early- like 2-3 AM starting NICE toll gate at BETL side i.e. NH7 side.)
But, you too can do some speed runs, I guess (haha.)

Haan Sir,
I have confirmed with the Service and Sales dept of Yam (while delivery, and at service also).
They do not give suspension adjustment spanner as a part of the tool kit.

Ace.
But you had mentioned either it would be to Nandi hills or Tumkur road right.
If it is Nandi Hills, then you need to wait at the footsteps till 6 am as they open the gates only at 6.
Whatever it is ,let me know the plan.

Re: IBA Rides- Preparation, Route, Planning thread

A Trial prep drive (for Saddlesore1000).

When: Tomorrow morning (freaky early morning)
Where: I am starting from BETL (NICE Ring Road toll gate) - via NICE Road to NH4 - till Tumkur (minimum - may also extend the turaround point)
With:
Ironhawk - confirmed (please confirm meeting point)
rk_sans - please confirm (also confirm meeting point)
<Anybody else willing to join!>

This prep drive (~150kms)- would be a final (like qualifying ) pre-drive.
All geared-bike setup as it would be throughout the SS.

Should give a good idea, of how the bike behaves with load, and at continuous high speeds.

Any inputs are welcome.

Thanks,

Ace.

We will confirm the time, in another 2 hours or so.
But- I will start from BETL toll gate around 4:30 AMish (+/- 30 mins)

Re: IBA Rides- Preparation, Route, Planning thread

Preparation update:

Today - the qualifying was cut short by a few kms as the rider was caught with unlubed chain

I was supposed to get the remaining part of the gear and accessories yesterday!
But, bad rains yesterday made me postpone that to today.

Anyhow, I was to do this qualifying (!) lap on the road that I would be starting my SS.

Ok,
To sort it all in more sense making order:
Yesterday: 6 PM

I was all set to go to JC road- but then rain really got me stuck badly even before M'halli!
I had my office bag - and didnt want the stuff in it to get wet, so decided I will visit just Hypercity and nearby tyre shop and return for the day! (had to!)
So, I went and bought Formula 1 wax ! (went there, and had to pick something up there!)

While returning home - I went into Michelin store near Forum Value mall.
There I got the Sarv-Seal puncture repair kit for tubeless tires.
It has the boring tool+wick installation tool+measurement & cutting tool+5 wicks

Things bought:
Formula 1 wax- 320 INR
Sarveshawri puncture kit - 400 INR

Today Morning 5 AM:
(Hawk - sorry about the mixup about the start point! - I will make for that later)
I was at BETL - took a toll receipt and started my journey.

The receipt has following details:
__

Entry from: e.g. Hosur Road
Exit to: e.g. Banerghatta Road
Time: 05:18:36 AM
Vehicle: Two Wheeler
Vehicle Number: WWWW << (It does not print actual number! and, I forgot to ask, if they can print it - If requested!)

__

So, I guess, that would be good enough to mark the start point of my trip and most probably trip end point too.
(as snap will be taken with Odo+Receipt)

Apart from that, Something I learnt-

When you go from a just-a-simple-windcheater-riding-a-bike to a geared-preotected rider you feel world of a difference!

I was not used to the weight, and the small things you can only notice- when actually you put on the armor!

for e.g.
When you wear those thick-heavy gloves - you should not try to grip on to the handles too much! you already have a good grip - just find a sweet spot, so you dont strain your wrist!
(thanks rk_sans for that tip)

When you wear protective Jacket - you need some time to get used to even simple things like zipping things up and using your breathers well - depending on the weather, and time of the day.
When you wear a helmet - you should keep the visor down at most times - but mostly at night and dusk - when light is real problem - consider toggling it to open - or semi open for better visibility!
(thanks to Ironhawk for these any many more nitty gritty tips)

There are many more! but - first hand experience is the best to teach you all that!
I suggest all budding riders and existing ones (who dont ride with gear!) (I was one o them - just a week before!)- to pick up safety gear and practice riding - SAFE!

__

About the bike setup:

Rk_sans helped me adjust the bike suspension to 2 notches (which I believe are) towards tighter setup
But, I noticed, the bike didnt sag as much as before, when I sat on it.
and, it was bit more stiffer over undulations - seeming good!
(but, later I got used to it - and, now its feeling normal!)

Seeing me indecisive about the suspension setup (as to keep it stock or tigher(!)), rk_sans was kind enough to lend me the suspension adjustment kit! (Thanks for that!)

___

The chain was very dry and for that I was determined to search some cleaning + lube solution.

I searched some shops at Jayamacharya Road ( aka JC road - lol)

Items bought on JC road and at Orion Motors (revisited):

1. Yamalube - 450 ml - 350 INR
2. WD 40 - 160 gm - 150 INR
3. Knee+Elbow guards (set2+2) - 2500 INR
4. Bungee cord - 40 inches (nice and strong one) - 400 INR <- (looks expensive to me, but, I was tired to go to another shop from there!)
5. Throttle cable + Clutch cable - 240 INR
6. NGK Spark plug (spare) - 105 INR

Oh, and I also visited Helmet Paradise - and got the difference back from previous purchase - Gloves (1990 INR instead of 2200 INR!)

So, that's all gear I am taking this ride with me!
I guess that's a good list for a basic bike.

So, I might make another 300+km run tomorrow - solo.

Thanks all for the prep work - substance as well as morale! (<assume a grateful smile smiley here!> )

Mobile Widget reads: 7 days left!

Can't hardly wait,

Ace.

Edit: Damn the size of my writing! <sorry for the looong post!>
re-EDIT: As if the post wasn't long enough, "edits" are added to it! (lol)
