Late evening turned to late night and its almost late morning and still no economics of the ride!! tch tch... Come one ace, you can do better than that

And good suggestion by Sridhar. Since the receipts are bound to get erased over time, its best to keep a soft copy of them. Had a bad experience with a meru cab receipt which was supposed to be submitted for claims in office. It was stark white in 7 days time that it was in my draw with no hint of the cost of the cab ride at all

Re: IBA Rides- Preparation, Route, Planning thread

Oh, I am sorry- got really tied up at work yesterday!

Cost break up of (just) the ride:

1. Reached Full tank to the start line ( minus fuel worth 28 kms )

NECE toll - 40 INR

Total fuel till last tank up - 60.6 litres
60.6x70(avg of MH and KA)= 4242 INR

NECE end toll - 10 INR
At the end of the trip I was left with almost a half tank of fuel (So, to add up to the final count lets add 4 lit. as compensation amount)
+280 INR

Net costs of just the bike fuel + Toll = 4572 INR

FE - Approx 26 kmpl

__

Consumables cost -

Snickers (3X15) - 45 INR
Gatorade (3X35) - 105 INR
Maaza (1X25) - 25 INR
Water (1 lit) - Priceless
Dates -20 INR

Total Consumables - 195 INR

__

So, that's the breakup.

I have scanned the documents to submit. (thanks for reminding me of that today!)
Will send the email in another 2 days. (really tied up at work now!)

Thanks,

Ace.

Whoa man.. Thats some FE figures. So were you doing 3 digit speeds most of the time. Coz on my weekend rides to Coorg, maintaining a steady 75-80kmph for most of the distance, the bike used to return a consistent mileage of 37-38kmpl.

Ace.. Excellent work. Hope you get your Certification from IBA

I think this should be done with 2+ bikes - Just for support, unless that is not part of IBA rules? Am I missing anything?

Thanks Ironwolf,

If some pillion rides with you - he/she too gets the IBA cert!
Many people do it together - with other riders as well!

no rule against that, AFAIK.

Hey, thanks a lot!
(you see, actually, reason why I was calling you, was to tell you -
since I had started like 30 mins earlier - I would be reaching Pune a bit earlier as well - but, could get through to you.. never mind.)
and, I later I had kept my phone on flight mode- to conserve battery for the ride-end.

Dad thought - (for one whole day) that I was narrating to him - some thing I did in some "PC game" !! like - I was riding for so long- or I travelled so many kms and all !!
Mom - "how on earth did you manage to gather up the courage for such a ride! that too - no sleep!!"
(I am known to be sleepy - even after I get up in the morning! )

For now, in search of my next challenge

Ace.

Well you and I are in the same category when it comes to sleep then.

And as for the next challenge, give some time for your backside to rest and then think of the BB1500 i guess it is - is it not?

At the pace at which you covered the first leg of the journey, you can complete the BB in record time as well!!

Aha, let me give another input here- After you are done with the SS1600
Actual - core rest period required, to be able to do some light physical work(!) is 24 hours
I slept the whole next day ( barring noon time 1 hour which I woke up for stuffing and fluid intake )
The 2nd day - I was up at 5 am - and started my day as good as new

At the pace at which you covered the first leg of the journey, you can complete the BB in record time as well!!
One more input here -
Yes, looking at the time I clocked in the beginning 700 kms was really assuring.
When you encounter traffic/rush at bunks - you really get frustrated, even feel more stress!
The choice of the route - and turn around as well - should be done really in very clear details, as accurately as possible.

(Thanks to HV Sir, for helping me in planning the timings perfectly
- that way, I only had to see traffic at turn around point - but I had to choose between traffic near Bangalore and traffic at turn around
- so, I chose the former - considering at the end of the ride- I would prefer as clean road as much possible)

If you choose just perfect route and timing - BB 2500 would be a quite achievable target too! ( the one to do in 36 hours )

@Hawk, you copy!?
(Hawk must be saying O--MM--GG!!! not freagin again!!) hehe.

Thanks,

Ace.

EDIT: I was saying just perfect route and timing, keeping in mind - we are aiming to do that in ~150cc machines.
(I have read, people with 1Kcc bikes take sleep stop (nice 2-4 hours also..) even in Saddlesore! - there planning need not be "so" perfect.. JMO)

Congrats ace! Big achievement! waiting for detailed log. :-)

What speeds were you doing most of the time? Was FZ comfortable for doing triple digit speeds for long?

In my p180dtsi, its good to cruise at 90kmph, but 100 is difficult to maintain. Did ride chennai- yelagiri last week, and maintained around 80- 90, with the occasional 100+. Will that be good enough for SS?

Good part is that I got on the plus side of 40kmpl with heavy throttle.

Let me say
- the Fz was doing really well just close to the triple digits
- and the bike was happier when I was on the lawful side of the triple-digits
(I should PM you about the further details)

Like, I said, in some post above - your speeds should be closer to the 90 mark most of the times- and you can do it comfortably.
( more towards 90 than 80 - at times even higher .)

Good part is that I got on the plus side of 40kmpl with heavy throttle.

Oh, that's very nice!
I am not sure- how much effeciency does an engine loose - above and over speeds like 80-90 kmph.
I think they loose at a steeper curve (with speed - as you get a lott of wind resistance)

With my riding (mostly) running at 3-5 k rpms - I have been getting 40 +/- 2~3 kmpl since day 1 !
This kind of FE was a news to me too!

and, concluding with this: ( Part 2 of 2 - Ride)

Plus the economics of the ride here:

I would sum it up as detailed report

Let me know if anything particular it is, that you are interested in.

Thanks,

Well, Neither did I know that - till I read about it here on tbhp only!

I was planning for something wild! - So tried to look up - what's the longest people ride on bikes.
Everybody I knew had never went over 12 hours - with some food breaks.
On searching- I found IBA - and, I knew - "that" "was" "IT"

Much better feeling, when you make it happen,

Ace.
