See this, Arizonajim & Sriram: http://www.ktm.com/gb/naked-bike/390...l#.UklKL4Z_OSo

The UK KTM 390 does not have either the fork boot or the mud flap.

Re: My Tryst with Orange: KTM Duke 390

I am not sure about this fork boot thingy.

Most guys in Pune are either using the Bullet corrugated fork boots (for which you need to dismantle the fork legs) or some ingenuous guy has made boots with stretchable foam material and velcro fastening that fits tightly against the fork leg - overlapping with the top (female) tube as well as part of the bottom (male) tube.

Can someone confirm these boots are actually coming from the factory?

I agree with your sentiments and even i am a preacher of what you are saying.
But tires that cost more than 10% of the motorcycle's value is a little more than one would expect.

A pertinent point, though I would hope they reduce the purchase price of the replacement tyres rather than hike the price of the bike (to international levels) in ordr to correct that %age.

I know there is a lot of talk of the tyres lasting 12-15K kms. Well, one of the test bikes needed replacement of the rear at 10K kms. Another new 390 owner is already finding the tyre degrading at 6K+ kms. My MRF Revz at the rear (much harder/more durable rubber) on my 200 is begining to slide at 7K kms.

Thanks for the info bro. Will check. The seals are a weak point, especially on tour and in slush and muck.

They have never seen /heard of the mudguard boot.
I did not see them in the other 390 which was there in the showroom - Am I seeing only 'old' 390s? I'll probably need to wait and watch.

I checked with the Service Engineer - There is no mudflap on any bikes. There is a provision for it (There are three holes to fix the mud flap) - Regarding the fork boot (learnt this term with this thread only ) he said none of them have it. But, it was clearly available in the photo that you shared

Ha ha ha - Glad to have some company in UK if not India!

I didn't see them in the other 390 in the showroom, doc! I'll check with them again when I go there next. The technician denied having any such thing.

I have to agree with you, Akshay! I hope KTM dealers give the tires at a decent price to the 390 owners.

Replacement at 6K - 10K kms? I am going bankrupt soon!

-------

Some updates - I did my first service today! As usual, I didn't read the manual which said that first service is at 45 days or 1000 kms whichever is earlier. I completed 4 weeks as of today and I thought first service was at 30 days as for my other bikes. I had 550 kms on my odo.

I requested them to go ahead with the service (though I don't do Motoman, I believe that it is better to change the engine oil earlier than usual for the first service).

It costed me 1,674 Rs including an chain lubricating spray that I picked up from the service center itself which costed 150 Rs. - I will use it on my Hyosung GT as well (which has run less than 4K kms in last 1 year)

I watched in glee as the service engineer set the gear-shift indicator to 8500 from 7500. As pointed out earlier in the thread, the indicator can easily be changed. There is no way on this holy earth that I'll wait for 10,000 kms to redline at 10.5K rpm. I'll manually move it to 10.5K RPM or ignore it.

The bike felt lovely as usual, showing incredible grip in the road post rain in Bangalore. The Metz tires proving their mettle once again! The tires literally stick to the tarmac like leech, and even I am tempted to touch knees in corners.

I checked again regarding the fan - Looks like it is 9 kmph trigger (and not 9 bars in the heat gauge as the KTM engineer had told me) - And boy, the bike blows hot air from the front! It comes out right below the number plate on the front and the front tire. In a very bad traffic, any pillion rider in the two wheeler in the front is bound to have their rear roasted

I think the real fun starts now - Will keep you all posted of how life is post first service...

Bill from first service (Not bad at all! I remember paying 4K+ for the first free service for Hyosung!)

Dont know about the KTM,but i had a ZMA,and the way i used to ride,a pair of tires never last beyond 10-11Kms,and this was consistent across various brands i used in those 77K kms.If i get the 390,i will have to keep aside another 1.8L just for tires

Well, I was just curious to know the life expectancy of the tyres. Since our's will be in direct proportion to their's, there will be no point in grudging that expense. I never expected them to last 45k+ like the Splendor's!

Man, this is too much! 10 - 11k would be acceptable somewhat!

Expect nothing more than 12-14K out of them.
That too at a stretch,if one rides hard, they will wear out faster.

I am picking up the bike on Friday. What items, if any, should I pick up at the time of delivery?

Get in line - two more friends have asked me to too!

Thanks for the list. Being anal, have put them into the 'KTM delivery checklist'.

Actually I was thinking of accessories like the lube oil that Sriram seems to have picked up. Or any other power part. Basically stuff that is NEEDED on an ongoing basis. (stuff I WANT I will convince myself to buy!)

Thanks for the wishes.
