re: 2017 KTM Duke 390. Now unveiled at EICMA 2016

KTM has established a dealership network that is very commendable for a niche product. For example , Siliguri has a very big showroom with an RC8 and all as eye candy . Now if you suddenly jack up the price to 3L , the bike might do fine at Mumbai and Delhi , it will suffer at Siliguri and Bareilly and not justify the investment in form of floor space , staff and service centre ( service is where they mint a significant portion of their margin ) .

BTW while in bigger cities , you have people from across the age spectrum as customers , at lesser cities and in general , the target customer is 18-30 year old. For folks like us , even a 30k difference can prove decisive even if it appears a non issue for someone well established in life. Hence if the pulsar priced at 1.8 or 2 will have its own market just like the KTM "merely" costing 30 or 40,000 more .

Based on the spy shot, we have a few renderings of the bike -

2017 KTM Duke 390. Now unveiled at EICMA 2016-26966440166109.577455d3646e5.jpg

2017 KTM Duke 390. Now unveiled at EICMA 2016-b2c69640166109.577455d364e26.jpg

Looks pretty mean, and takes the roadfighter looks to a whole new high! What say?

Looks are all subjective, I hope they fix the heating, seating and greeting (poor and at times scamming service people) issues.

I would definitely change my 2014 to a 2017 if they soften the seat and raise it by 20-30mm, it's too low at the moment.

And they fix the fan and heat direction a bit better than the 2016 model, it needs a much stronger fan motor and a better shroud that doesn't rattle.

You can do this right now as well with SofaRider™ Gel Seat Cover - gives softer seat and raises height by around 25mm!

P.S.: Not related to the website or the vendor in any way. Just a customer for past some months.

Looks absolutely sharp! A perfect street piranha. Can picture a young guy in a sharp armored leather jacket and jeans on one of these things heading out for the evening.

Wil be very very difficult to NOT pick the 390 up in this guise. Spec to spec, and from a styling angle the Beemer doesn't stand a bloody chance.

Why do you say it's 125? Looks exactly like the 390 spyshots (dual colored frame, orange alloys etc). Even the overall stance is beefier. If it's the 390, it's absolutely stunning. Like a mini superduke!

EDIT : Btw, don't undermine the beemer! Specs is not everything. We can judge only after riding them both.

What an absolute stunner. Sharp and piercing design. Looks absolutely menacing. I was in a big dilemma on weather to go for the beemer or the KTM but now i think i have my answer. I'm sure the new duke adds more to what it already offers. It's already a bomb package and the new one's look like they're here to make a blast. Stoked.

re: 2017 KTM Duke 390. Now unveiled at EICMA 2016

I too agree with The Brutailer, The bike's profile matches with the recent spy shots. It could be new Duke 390. Imagine how beautiful RC390 is going to be.

As per the latest website launch of G310R, India will not get this bike anytime soon, even though its manufactured in India for the rest of the world

With BMW out of the picture, KTMs are going to sell like hot cakes. But, every new equipment comes with its own set of problem. remember when Duke and RC series were launched in India. Cracked rims, radiator going kaput etc. let see how everything goes. fingers crossed!

Heard the same too buddy. But this one is a Duke 390.

Cheers

The 2017 KTM Duke 390 rendered by Rushlane -

Quote:
This new rendering shows the 2017 KTM 390 Duke with an updated rear sub-frame, which along with the pointed top fairing plastics running from the tank to the forks, make it look like a miniature version of the patriarch of Duke family – the 1290 Super Duke R. The rendering also suggest what the 390’s new side-exit exhaust, which looks the same as the silencer on the old RC 390, might look like.

But I am particularly interested in this 390 based Adventure render!

This will elevate KTM to a different level IMO. The only competition it might have will be from Benelli TRK 502, if they launch it that is. But as is the story until now, the 390 Adventure will only be a speculation IMO. I will believe only when I see the actual thing in front of me.

I've a 2016 June model (390 duke) and there is no heating issue as such.

City - bumper to bumper traffic - Temperature indicator is 2 bars less than the last triangle always, never goes beyond that. Fan is always ON.

City - moving traffic - Temperature indicator is 2 or 3 bars less than the last triangle always, never goes beyond that. Fan comes ON intermittently.

Highways - The fan hardly comes ON, the temp is 3-4 bars below the last triangle always.

I feel hot air on my left leg in the city, which is quite ok. I always make sure the coolant level is right and the radiator is clean.

Slightly OT:

Sir, if you don't mind me asking, why did you purchase a 2016 duke model when KTM is going to revamp its complete fleet in 2017?

Agree that every new bike comes with its own set of issues and niggles but was that the only reason?

I mean no disrespect and the question is purely out of curiosity since I am also in the market for a good reliable two wheeler which would be used mainly for touring. Thanks!
