Finally got to test ride the REs today at the Tokyo brand showroom. It was my first time riding an RE in 20 years (after I sold off my problematic Machismo A350).

Although I had booked the Classic 350 without even a test ride, I wanted to make sure that I had made the right choice. In any case, there was a waiting period of 6 months. After riding the Classic and Meteor, I realized that the single cylinders were just not going to work for me. After years of testing liter class bikes on closed circuits at work, my minimum expectation from a motorcycle had definitely changed.

Then I hopped on to the Interceptor 650 and finally the Continental GT650, and loved them both. They felt similar to the Triumph T120 and Thruxton, but in a more compact, lighter, manageable package.

After some thought and discussion with my 6 year old son, decided to go with the GT. Canceled the Classic 350 booking of course.

Intended Use: 45KM round trip commute in Bengaluru's existing and non existing roads (Bellandur to Yeshwantpur/Rajajinagar). I needed a city bike with the best suspension this side of 8Lakhs.


Shortlists:Budget was not a consideration and I test rode multiple bikes (Hero Xpulse 200 4V, Suzuki Vstrom 250, RE Classic 350, RE Himalayan, TVS Ronin, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V) and I liked all of them for what they bring to the table. However, nothing could 'connect' with me at the level XPulse Pro connected. This bike wants you to go into the potholes and bumps than avoid them- it is so telephatic. Bring it on BLR potholes!

Note on Dealership: Folks at R T Krishna Autos are so awesome. I visited them thrice and met different persons each time and they all came across as very warm, cordial. They also allowed me multiple test rides without any attitude. They had 10+bikes in their storage but they 6 of them were already reserved by customers. So, I did PDI for the remaining 4 and I did not see any issue in any of them- so I selected the one with the latest manufacture date. No wonder they have such a high rating on google.

I have a 2009 Aviator, showing age, and my commute is easily crossing 25-28 KMs on most days, and instead of ICE, we all thought it's time to enter the EV world.

The scooter will be used in the city for point A to point B that's it. We don't want any gizmos, no music, no navigation just an EV scooter to do the most basic of things.

Chetak, iQube and Ather 450S were in contention.

Tested the iQube, didn't quite get the vibes from it, and was going to ₹1.48L on road.

Haven't tried the Ather yet, but Mom Dad are really hooked by the Chetak design and fit and finish.

I am a little on the ropes still, because no reviews of Chetak on Team Bhp, not even official review, and Bajaj doesn't seem to be much bothered about the product as well.

Still time, but as of now we have fixated on the Chetak.

Update: Got the bike last Saturday on 3rd February 2024 as promised by the dealer. Already put 500km on the odo just riding around Mumbai. Will start touring after the first service at 750km.

The bike feels fantastic and the addition of the Rally kit suspension makes the already brilliant 200 4v basically immune to Mumbai potholes and undulations on the road.

Mileage is a bit shoddy at the moment about 32kmpl in the city while most users online and some reviews claim the mileage to be in the low to mid 40's (42-45) but I'll wait for the first service before I judge mileage.
