Well he did admit that it was a farfetched analogy that said if we're finding faults with that comparison, then how about also the fact that a BMW would definitely handle better than a Hyundai whereas there is no way the Kawasaki can handle as sharp as the KTM. Anyway with the launch of the super sensible RR310 and the more powerful Ninja 400, I think it's high time I got my bike a RaceDynamics Powertronic and a new paint-job

Exactly why that comparison didn't make sense to me. Comparing KTM to Hyundai!! That's like comparing the sharpest handler to the lamest handler.

BTW, I am also thinking of a RD piggy back for my bike

Re: The Kawasaki Ninja 400. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 4.69 lakhs

I feel bad for people who were waiting for this bike, this bike had all the potential of being a leader in it's segment, a perfect balance between city riding and effortless cruising on highways. Hell i would love to have this in my garage, but at the same price as what the world pays for it. If it costs the same as Ninja 300 everywhere else, or with a minor premium, why should we not get it for the same price as current Ninja.

Hate this treatement dished out to us by these corporates.

Wait till the GS310 comes out. Am sure BMW will go one up. These firms still see India as a land of 'snake charmers'. See HONDA, they still didn't find us fit for their 300. They are doing us a favor by bringing in their out-of-the world futuristic machines to our shores.

Re: The Kawasaki Ninja 400. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 4.69 lakhs

Overdrive does a comparo between Ninja 400 and Z650. Nothing that we did not know, but this seems summarized neatly.

Quote:
The engines and the nature of power *snip*
So when you ride the Ninja 400, you are choosing a higher revving, More involving motorcycle although the Z650 is calmer as well as faster.
Quote:
Dynamics *snip*
What should translate to is more committed seating position, sharper responses and a stiffer ride overall for the smaller Kawasaki. As a small sportsbike, it won't be hardcore like, say, the current ZX-10R, but the Z650 will be sweeter and easier to ride in most situations.
Quote:
The Price *snip*
The on-road prices in Mumbai are Rs 6.13 lakh for the Z650 versus Rs 5.75 lakh for the Ninja 400. Rs 38,000 in all. And if you finance it - 80 per cent of on-road price, 10.5 per cent, five years - the Ninja 400 comes to Rs 9,887 per month on EMIs. And the Z650? Wait for it. Rs 645 more.

Ever since my Duke 200 turned 5, i have had an itch to upgrade with every bike launch and this bike is ideal upgrade, But i think i can keep my duke till it is 10 and then buy one of these second hand. What do you reckon a decently maintained one would come for around 2022?

If you're keeping the Duke 200 for 5 more years, you never know what else could be in the market by then. It is a long way away no point thinking how much this will cost 5 years down the line. The Duke 200 is one of those absolutely faultless bikes in terms of soul and if you pledge not to lose interest in it, it will serve you very well. I am infact thinking of buying a duke 200 and converting it into something of a proper supermoto for extensive city rides. I have been quite taken by the idea of owning a supermoto for the weekdays and riding a sportbike on the weekends if you know what I mean (or a supermoto in the summer and monsoon and a sportbike in the winter). Alas that is wishful thinking as I haven't yet finished the restoration of my Forester which is set to be my daily driver which I cant wait to go on road trips in through the Summer. Hopefully by the time I get down to exploring the option of a supermoto, there will be some actual supermoto offerings in the space by then. Fingers crossed the market grows that fast

Re: The Kawasaki Ninja 400. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 4.69 lakhs

Ninja 300 sales shoot up by 10x in March 2018. Could this be the 400 overpricing effect?

The offer has been running for sometime now. Seems to be people lapping up 300 quickly before it runs out of stock.

Interesting to see Ninja 650 taking a huge hit, could it be another 400 effect, where probably a person eyeing the 650, decided to come down to 400 and save some money. Thinking being, 400 can probably do everything that 650 can, is cheaper, and will run cooler and can be used both in city and highway, and comes with LED headlamps with a new design.

A lot of people had held off their buying in the expectation that N400 will launch at around the same price as N300 like it is the case world over.
With the N400 pricing and the fact that N300 being discontinued, people jumped to buy.

First product ever to start discounts on the same month of launch?

Discounts of upto 20k offered by the Mumbai dealership -

Re: The Kawasaki Ninja 400. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 4.69 lakhs

A discount of 20K is still too tiny, considering that the bike is overpriced by almost a lakh. The almost-as-competent Yamaha R3 being available for 3.48L ex-showroom is another huge factor that is making the Ninja 400 irrelevant at its current pricing.

Disagree on this part. R3 is simply outclassed IMO, although the Ninja 400 is defenitely overpriced. Actually both are, when the non-CKD bikes come into the equation.

Main advantages of Ninja 400 over R3 -

- 80cc more.
- US version with 45ps makes 8ps more on the dyno than R3 which makes 35hp at the rear wheel. Indian version has 49ps. Should be atleast 10ps more at the rear wheels.

- Same kerb weight despite additional displacement.
- Preload adjustable rear suspension. Biggest weakness with the R3 is its soft suspension that tends to bounce on two lane highways.
- LED headlamps.
