re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

RX 100 is etched in my heart. 'Listen to the heartbeat of the Yamaha', started there. And what a beat it was. It could outrun any bike of the era, even the more powerful Yezdi, Bullet, Fury could not catch up. I was hoping it would return in a modern 4 Stroke avatar, but there can be only one legend.

Voted for RD 350 - while RX 100 made the 2stroke bikes popular, the God Level bike all we lusted was the iconic RD 350 - enuff said.

Oh Yeah! I had the pleasure of having a blue and silver one in our stable and the looks I used to get from Yamaha and Kawasaki riders when ahem, you know what- it was priceless

We had one in our family too.
Yes, on second thoughts, this is really a two-stroke icon.

Its always RX100 for me. It's the gangsta street racer. Every known gang (?) in my college days had at least two of it.

The most iconic 2 stoker would be the RX100. No doubt about it.
It was affordable, light, easy to drive, and still went like a stabbed rat.
Popping a wheelie is just a matter of twisting the throttle, in the right gear.

However, the RD350 was at a different level.
Expensive, halo, and exceedingly quick, People feared for their life upon riding it.
However, it was out of reach of the masses to be called as Iconic.

re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Voted for the RX100, simply because that's the one bike I've ridden apart from Suzuki ones listed, and liked it to smithereens. Although never owned a 2stroke, have used friends' bikes during college years to some good extent.

Have always drooled at papa's friends' / my friend's father's Yezdi Roadking 250 in the childhood -- don't know the character (or lack of it) of that bike. Else I'd have voted for that, its exhaust note was music to the ears :-)

1 more that comes to mind is the Rajdoot, loved the looks of that bike & was intrigued by its pin-like ignition key in childhood days!

RX100 and the raw power. Am sure many wheelied (and fell) when learning.

re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Voted for the RX100. I'm a huge fan of the RD350 and would love to own one sometime, but the RX100 is still what I consider as the most iconic two stroke sold in India. Ad many others said, the RX offered power to the masses. The powerful engine and light weight together make the bike FLY. The way this thing pulls is just something else, crazy power. The other reason that I voted for the RX was that we had two in our garage (one sold) and dad has many memories with the RX. Here's my '86 beauty in red:

It's a very very difficult question. This should have been a multiple choice poll.
I voted for RD350, as that was what most of us lusted over, but RX100 and Yezdi 250 also deserve votes.

re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

I would say - the 1 and only motorcycle that would come to mind when you utter the words "2-Stroke" is the Yamaha RX100. A peppy motorcycle which was accessible to the masses and was a favourite with many college students. A close second contender would be the mighty Yamaha RD350 - mainly because it was a cult motorcycle that was introduced at a time when majority of the masses preferred small 4-stroke fuel efficient motorcycles. Even by todays standards - the RD can give a tough competition to today's 650cc twins.

If I had to just chose one, it would be the RX100. If it would be multiple (in order) - RX100, Kinetic Honda, RD350, Shogun.

re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Though I've voted for RD350, I love the RX bikes [100/RXG/135 4S/5S]. They are light, nimble and quick like a squirrel running through the woods!

Here is an old pic of my RX 135 when it was restored:

Trivia: This pic was allegedly used by some nincompoop FB page for promoting it's page on FB and also this was first result on Google pics for term RX 135 for some time

re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

It has to be the rx100!
Those who had it, remember the friend they had. Those who didn't cannot deny at least one point in time when they yearned for one.
I literally hijacked mine from one of my brother's friends. Refused to return it until he and my brother came to an "understanding", and I successfully eloped with my first bike.

Mine too. I did a couple of Belgaum - Goa trips on it way back in 91 - 92.

I voted for others I.e., the Chetak. It was aspirational for a lot of people in its day. By the way, did anyone manage to scrape the rear number plate of the Chetak ?

re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Back in 2004/5, a few of us college friends were staying in one of their home in Calicut during vacation. His father is a tinkerer and since he realized I too was a budding tinkerer, we took a few brooms and attacked the Dusty old garage, in the corner among the rubble there was this bike. Can't see its paint, tires are flat and no signs of petrol anywhere.

So we gave it a few sweeps with the broom , some rags, filled air, added a few litres of petrol. The bike has been sitting around for at least five years like that. Kicked it a few times and there it starts,we let it idle for sometime and then went for a spin. It easily went upto 80kmph , and I have driven bikes on very few occasions, and RX100 is the only 2 stroke I have driven.

So does that make it the most iconic? Perhaps not, but today many years after it's production ended, none of it's contemporaries are on the road on a regular basis, this is a much loved bike, and a very usable bike for all times.

re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

I had the fortune of owning an RX100 older than me! Few restoration projects online made me have a look at the Yamaha, made me think what could be so special about a 100CC bike with 99km/hr topspeed!

I went ahead and started hunting for a good bike. After few months got a sweet one, which had been restored recently! What an amazing experience it was. Non-linear power delivery, two stroke sound, extremely light frame all added to a fun riding experience which can be hard to replicate.

Sold the bike to a friend, bought a KTM as I needed performance for longer rides and few track days. KTM would surely be the RX of our era
