Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Voted for the legendary Yamaha RX100.

It was the first motorcycle I got onto and you could say that I was learning to ride. Popped a spectacular wheelie, by accident and the next thing I saw was a drain.

This was one motorcycle that was mental. Ultra light combined with a fast revving engine ensured you blitzed past everything and everyone. Hands down, a drag strip, straight line champion. This was also the motorcycle you rode to college. If you had one, you were the "Dude". Quite likely that the dude with the best looking RX100 had the most attractive chick reserved for him too. You were untouchable.

Being Japanese, it was reliable too and did not cost an arm and a leg to fix, if something did break.

As much I would like to vote for the RD350, it was not accessible to most.

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Isn't the poll missing - Suzuki Samurai "the no problem bike"? I voted for Suzuki Shogun and then realized I actually wanted to vote for Suzuki Samurai. If not for the Samurai, I would have voted for the RX 100. The Yamaha RX 100 was an absolutely wonderful bike at the time.

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Raw power, exhilarating exhaust note and a sweet motor. The RX 100 it is. Bought my first bike which was 6 months old in 1995, while I was in college. It was just a few months before the RXG was launched I guess. Sold it only due to the poor mileage since dad was footing the fuel bills. It was replaced by the legendary Splendor bought brand new in 1996 and used it for 9 years, before upgrading to the Shine 125 cc. Regret selling the RX 100 to this day.

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Although I own an RX 135, I voted for the RX 100 as the 135 never clicked with the masses like the 100 did.

However, the most powerful and scary two stroke I have ridden has to be the RD 350. A gas guzzler monster. Agree with GTO the sound of a good tuned RD high in the rev range is simply intoxicating.

RD 200 (Yes, its a 200 not a 350)

So beautiful! You have the best of both worlds. So amazingly maintained and those subtle changes/additions that add to the perfection! These are fine pieces that show your mastery. Hats off!

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

I had the good fortune of owning and riding a Kinetic Honda during my college days. It was a 91 model and was passed on to me by my grandfather. We were 5 friends in our group in college and 4 of owned Kinetic Hondas. I still have the Kinetic Honda but haven't ridden it in months(probably more than a year).

However, the RD350 was the one that I lusted after and hence voted for it.

PS: My dad owned an RD but sold it much before I started riding or got into college.

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Always have & will be an RX 100, I have owned one for the last 17 years. I used to ride it in college. and I still ride it sometimes to the office. But now the Duke 390 has taken over the job. The RX100 will always have a special place in my heart forever.

Thank you and yes owning a two stroke is indeed something special. I have put up a thread on the making of these two beauties over the years till they looked and perform the way they do today . You can read it here https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motor...-rd-200-a.html (My Barn Finds: Yamaha RD 125 & RD 200)

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

When I saw the title of this thread, the only one bike that came to my mind is RX 100. So voted for it without a second thought. I saw the choices and see that there are a few others which are close but nothing can beat the RX 100.

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Voted for the RX100 for 2 reasons.

1) It was this bike that brought thrill of riding to masses &

2) This was my first bike & it taught me how not to do wheelies at the learning stage itself

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Oh, this thread makes me nostalgic. I learned riding on my father's Suzuki AX100 at 15 years age. The mind blowing acceleration and wind in the air for a 15 years old kid and you can imagine how I must be feeling right now.
Though I loved the AX100 and always admired Yamaha RX100, my love always was Suzuki Shotgun.

Suzuki shogun it is. Why? Coz I owned one, and the growl of the engine was pure bliss!! Never owned a bike after that(college days) as a tribute

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Tough to answer. I have voted for RX100.

While RX100 is an easy answer due to its popularity. RD350 could also be called iconic because of the legend it has become.

I was born at the time when 2 strokes were fairly popular. In the early 90s, my grandfather had a black AX100 which was the very bike I started learning to ride on. My father had a Bajaj Chetak (a 2 stroke) and he sold it to buy, wait a minute, an AX100!! Which was modified a lot and we were not sure was really an AX100, some in my family speculated that it was a rare TVS Supra. But I think I was just an AX100

Other than that, my family had KB100, Samurai, Max100, RX135 and Yezdi Roadking over the years.

I have the 2 stroke smell in my memory, fiddling with the carburetor, mixing 2T oil to fuel, getting stranded in the middle of nowhere for not having added 2T oil to the fuel. There are plenty of memories.

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Tough poll indeed as many stated. RX series for sure cannot be ignored at any cost but my vote goes to RD350 mainly for the performance and exclusivity. I guess RD is the very first powerful machine available for the masses in India. Rx will take my vote if reliability and ease of maintenance are a big factor but I can vote for one bike and the heart wins always.

I've owned two RDs (rebuilt one from scratch) and still own an RX135 and Shogun. I love the RX series mainly for the reliability and the unlimited mod options. You can pretty much build a peppy street machine or an offroad bike to a drag maniac. Another big advantage of RX series is the availability of spares. Yamaha supplied most of the spares until very recently and it was easy to rebuild a bike.

Shogun according to me is the unsung hero of the 2 stroke world in India. It literally could kill the RX100 in stock form and the engine revs to 12k rpm so easily. The riding experience is very good for a puny 110cc motor. Maintaining a shogun currently is a very difficult task due to the lack of spares (or high cost of spares).

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

I voted for the Yamaha RX100.

IMHO: The RX100 was an iconic bike. You could recognize an RX100 just by its unique zing type engine note. It was music.

I never owned any Bike, but it was a dream. While growing up, my uncle had an RX100 and as kids , it was pure thrill to get to ride pillion with him.

I guess the true value of the RX100 was appreciated after they stopped production.

I recall my some of my engineering college hostel mates having the RX100s and RX135s and they would rave and rave about it. I pleaded with my parents for one, but was flatly refused.

To me, the most iconic 2 Stroke bike on the Indian scene would always remain the RX100.
