Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Voted for Rx100. I own one too. Though RD 350 was legend, yet Rx100 was able to hit the mass market with fans till date.

My idea of buying a new bike dropped at the moment I drove RX100 for the first time in 2006 during my college days.

Finally I was able to buy a used RX during 2013 and satisfied my long awaited dream.

Here is the throwback of my review

Absolutely gorgeous! The best thing is that you kept her stock. On what bore is she running?

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

It's very hard to choose just one, all of them are energetic smoking monsters. My choice: RD350. It's a notch above, with the ever busy twin and that terrifying performance!!!

Explorer is also worth mentioning here especially for its beautiful alloy wheel.

A common trait of all these - just put them in first, a little bit of throttle and a swift clutch release. @45° to the road , a curvy smile on your face will say it all!!

Voted for RD350 as that was the bike which was closer to real worlds two stroke performance, I had 5 of them, all sold done and dusted once I realise that there's lot faster and reliable bikes around, trust me we never had performance oriented bikes ever in India.

My bad, just caught up with the thread. But why the Her Honda CD100 did not find place here? I remember Chennai had lots of this machine before RX100 caught up despite being a late comer.

^^ The CD100 was the first 100cc four stroke motorcycle in India.

My vote goes to the RX100; the most iconic without a doubt.

I remember riding pillion @110kmph sometime in 1990 on a red RX100; what a ride that was.

Maybe because it was one boring, puny 4 stroke! This thread is about the wild and awesome 2 strokes.

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Voted for RD350.
Rode Yezdi, RX100, RX135 but nothing like RD350.
Came close to owning RD350, paid the full amount but the owner backed off , wasn't even able to recover the amount or the bike but got another vehicle in return.
I also rode a (supposedly) stock RX135 of a mechanic from Sector 48 motor market, Avtar Singh, accelerated like anything but it missed on the exhaust note.

The smile that came to your face on just hearing the exhaust note of RD350 is incomparable. Slowly accelerating RD350 is pure music to the ears. Got an old video of me taking a short drive on a friend's RD350:

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

Motorbikes in India: I’m not participating in the poll because I just cannot choose any one from these six, to wear the Crown. All of these were for me, a part of my childhood and ‘teenage years. Hence there is a very strong bias towards these, in this post.

1. Rajdoot- Yamaha RD350 - Raj-Yam as it was called in the 1980’s. - could not even ride one properly back in the day. Absolutely could not afford one either but I was fortunate to have some good friends who owned these so spent a lot of time riding pillion with them (completely against my Grandma’s wishes). Superb bike. What a sound. And that high torque engine was the best!
2. Rajdoot- Yamaha RX100 - could never afford one in its heyday. And they stopped selling them brand new sometime in 1992 or so, hence never bought one when I went to work, but brought a KB100 RTZ instead. However, I always loved its looks and sound and performance.
3. Yezdi Roadking 250 - What a Sound! (Never owned one thought several friends did and I rode those bikes)
4. Yezdi D250 Classic - Also had great Sound! (Both the Yezdi’s used to sound particularly super when coasting downhill in 2nd gear and 3rd gear. That evenly spaced out “Thungg” “Thungg” - always evocative of the 1980’s in the hills of South India.) Used to ride one regularly on the sly, on the Tea Estate where Dad was based.
5. Zundapp-Enfield Explorer - although it was only a 50cc Motorcycle it was a lovely thing to behold and lust after while walking about on the streets of Madras in the 1980’s. Especially when it was slightly modified and made to look just a tad more aggressive, street bike-ish. Loved this bike - it represented freedom of a different kind, to a young 16 year old like I was then.
6. Kawasaki KB 100 RTZ. Loved its long wheelbase and superb balance. Bought one when I went to work and had it for several years in the early 1990’s.

Voted for RX100 .I still remember the way it accelerated even when I was riding pillon as a school going chap when my elder cousin got one when he was in college. Even while moving if given sudden throttle it used to lift its front wheel throwing the pillon rider imbalanced.

Voted for the Shogun. Had one. Loved it. Preferred it over the RX. I'm on the taller side, and was never comfortable on the RX. Also felt the Shogun was relatively more stable at high speeds.

Re: Which is the most iconic 2-stroke motorcycle of India?

When I was in 10th grade, I had one aim in life - To Buy a Hero Honda CD100 SS (with the handle bar facing down to look cool).

By the time I reached college, Bajaj Pulsar was the new craze but never bought it and eventually went to US later after college.

I still don't have a bike and a now I'm in love with Ducati XDiavel, which I really want to buy
