Honda teases new variant of CB350 with classic touches

Honda has shared a teaser of what appears to be a new variant of the CB350 on social media. The CB350 BABT is likely to feature a classic look and might come in an all-black colour scheme.

The teaser doesn’t reveal a lot, but you do get a glimpse of the bike’s front alloy wheel. Note how the front fender is mounted at the bottom of the fork in typical classic fashion.

The CB350 BABT is expected to be powered by the same 348cc, single-cylinder engine as the standard model. It develops 20.8 BHP and 30 Nm and will be paired with a 5-speed gearbox.

While the CB350 BABT may sport a classic look, it will be equipped with all the latest features and safety systems offered on the standard bike. These include LED lights, Honda Selectable Torque Control, a Honda Smartphone Voice Control system, an assist and slipper clutch and a side stand with engine inhibitor.

Seems now Honda and RE are into role reversals.

RE is introducing all new products in the global market and Honda's new products are all about new colour schemes, changed graphics, few lights here and there and that's all about it. No discernable value addition.

I won't be surprised if the BABT(whatever the acronym stands for) follows the same path.

They should rather focus on improving the pathetic sales and after sales service.

Re: Honda teases new variant of CB350 with classic touches

There were rumours of a CB350 based RE Meteor competitor getting launched soon. I think this will be it, mostly they may name it Rebel 350.

Hope this is the cruiser version of CB350. They were aiming Deepavali for this new bike if I recall. The rider seat seems low like it

Got this from a source. Seems this is the model which is getting launched - a RE classic competitor for 2L.

Re: Honda teases new variant of CB350 with classic touches

I was riding with one my friends who had a Honda CB350. Couple of people on the road asked if its a bullet and he happily mentioned that: Haan, Honda ki Bullet (Yes, this is Honda's Bullet!)

I think someone somewhere from Honda listened to this conversation and had an epiphany and literally made Honda's Bullet. Pathetic attempt and irrelevant product.

Re: Honda teases new variant of CB350 with classic touches

Now this is what can be called Honda Bullet. Hope they also tried to mimic the final gearing of Classic/Bullet to address the tall gearing issue of the H'ness. While it is sad to see that Honda had to blindly copy RE, it should address some of the existing issue with H'ness like mud splash and noise from frond mudguard on bad roads.

Re: Honda teases new variant of CB350 with classic touches

Why opt for a replica when you can have the authentic original? Classic isn't known to be very unreliable either. Honda, with its impressive legacy, had the opportunity to draw from its rich history. However, they chose to make Royal Enfield's classic. The entire CB350 range seems distinctly uncharacteristic of Honda.

They are succumbing to the RE-Honda CB350 triggered competition, only to most likely lose the game. When the LML Vespa NV150 was launched in the late 1980's, it was fitted with body integrated indicators on its front leg guards and on the rear of the engine cover panels. These looked very aesthetic. But when such indicators for all two wheelers became compulsory by July 1989, Bajaj Supers and Chetaks had handlebar and atop engine cover panel fitted indicators initially. The Bajaj indicators looked like an afterthought fitment whereas LML ones looked aesthetic. The Harvard educated Rahul Bajaj when asked why these looked so odd, said he wanted them to be different from the competition. That was the time when his scooters ruled and he had earned the acronym "scooter king". But later on by 1990- 91, Bajaj too designed body fitted indicators in plastic panels, replacing the portruding ones.

Hence, it has to be think different, think out of the box, rather than launch copycat versions of acclaimed brands.

Re: Honda teases new variant of CB350 with classic touches

The web page for CB350 is now up.
https://www.hondabigwing.in/CB-350
Just noticed that the weight is now increased to 187 KG. Might be due to the larger fenders. The press release says "nitrogen charged" rear suspension but could not find any chamber/canister which is used to be seen on nitrogen charged shock absorbers.

Re: Honda teases new variant of CB350 with classic touches

OK, disclosure first, I love the Highness having booked it on Day one and owned it for over 3 years now.

I actually like the look of this bike. It gives a really solid looking feel and I think the sand dune colour does not do it many favours, I like the other colours available in the DLX Pro variant. If they have actually fixed the gearing on this at the expense of the top end, it would fix the single biggest issue with the bike.

Another thing to check is whether this will only be restricted to the Bigwing or be sold at all Honda dealerships? Maybe in Tier 2 and below markets, they should open it up to all dealers. I can easily see the sales go to 3x even if they dont approach RE numbers.

Black and Maroon models look very cool, but the exhaust pipe looks little smaller to me
