My Red Yamaha RX 100

I thought I missed out on buying the Yamaha RD350. It was too late. Yes, by 1990, the RD 350 was fading and was on its way out. The then best deal on two wheels for me was the Yamaha RX100 and I bought one very soon. It has done more than 50 K Kms with me since 18 plus years. The RX 100 still gives the Pulsars and CBZ's a tough time.Its has still got that same old feeling. The engine is still untouched. I am a DIY (Do It Yourself) freak and do most of the smaller jobs on this bike all by myself. This bike has been used by me, all through the past 18 plus years. It has been very kind to me and my pocket. The largest bill I ever had to pay was very recently, when I had to spend Rs 3800/- for its front suspension work and for upgrading its power supply to 12 volts. It had a 6V power supply originally. I never wanted to tinker with it. But now 6V batteries are not available in the market.
This bike has served me effortlessly and has never let me down.I have depended on it for some long bike journeys too.It delivers 40kmpl even now but I care a damn for fuel economy, when I am astride this wonder machine.For city use it, carries me to wherever I find car parking a tough job.
The second hand bike dealers say I wont get more than Rs 12000/- if I decide to sell it. But that does'nt impress me much. I have upgraded the bike and keep spending on it. If you love someone dearly, does money matter much ? I have also changed the rear tyre and tube fitting the MRF Moto D, a really tough 3.00 X 18!
The wine red paintwork and chrome are original. I will again post pictures of this bike maybe 10 years later!
Though I love cars and jeeps, the RX 100 is the reason I keep on loving bikes too.

Well maintained bike i must say...is the Red stock colour.whats the max speed you have done on this?

I have done a maximum of 100 kmph on a national highway (NH)on this bike.The manual says it can touch 110 kmph, but opening the full throttle took it to 100kmph on a lonely stretch of NH 6.
And dhaval surely I will post more anecdotes and some pictures.

Remove that rubber sheet.. it will block the air passage on to the cylinder head fins & there will be extra heat resulting in a loss of power.. its an air-cooled engine.. always remember that.

Hey Anjan, I too am a RX fan, brought back a lot of old memories after seeing the pictures of your tiger! I had a similar baby which I sold some years back and am regretting it ever since. In fact, after parting with the baby, I have virtually stopped riding bikes as no other bike could satisfy me like the RX.
IMO, RX is a class machine and looks best with it's stock slim trim looks. I agree with others, if you can remove the huge rubber mats, the black carry bag and the stickers and then give it a fresh waxing, you would feel like the first day when you fell in love with the bike, everyday!

Cheers and surely waiting to see the baby's pictures in 2019!

Absolutely well maintained bike. The only thing that makes it look old is the Rubber sheet

(pardon me).

Thank you all for your nice feedback.The rubber comes, cometh monsoon and goes away during the other seasons.So you will not find it in the new pictures that I will post soon.
Yes dudes the stickers are now not aesthetic. I have only now developed the eyes for good aesthetics.Being a youngster 19 years back, I did all that to make the bike look different. And now I fear that ripping them off may affect and peel off the original paint.
nnandi nice to read about your old bike and the thrill that it gave you. I was at times tempted to swap this for a FZ 16, but now I am keeping this one for sure. And the odd bag is a post marriage add-on. Thats because if I move with my better half and if she decides to buy some vegetables or groceries suddenly????

I'm surprised your engine has'nt seized due to the flap. You can get an extra long flap fitted to your mudguard if you are worried about monsoons.

Pretty neat Bike, Its really a joy riding these Two Stokes, I recently bought 200 Model RX135 5 Speed for 20K in bangalore and spent almost 5K now to get it to Stock condition.
One of my friend bought a 1987 Model RX100 for 18K recently. He spent almost 5K till now.
Nowdays it has become very diffucult to find RX135 & RXZ's 5 speeds in bangalore, people or not selling even if they are not using.
