Agreed. I actually hate the head units light most of the time. I am rather extreme. I infact prefer a no nonsense, non disturbing console that probably has only a time piece.

Navigation is much faster and easily available via phones these days and i have seen many use phones rather than trying to use a head unit navigation.

Blue tooth, ability to speak while drive is all i care and for that we have so many cheap solutions. In fact my solution is less than 5 dollars and works exceptionally well. A small BT device that connects to the Aux.

I wont mind a reverse camera but for that i anyway wanted a DVR and use the DVR for reverse camera.

Overall i think the RCD 510 is a great value for money and the sound from the system is fairly good.

The MKV jettas are no wonder so much value for the money because they came loaded with almost all the top of the line accessories except BT.

Trip meter 1 is short term. It resets itself after about 2 or 3 hours of the car being turned off. Trip meter 2 is long term. It does not reset until you manually reset it.

I did not understand your question "Can it calculate readings according to 3 meters". Can you elaborate?

You guys have two trip meters in your Jetta? I have only one!

Which year and model is your Jetta? Does it have the instrument cluster with MID (multi information display)?

Actually, there are three trip meters, one on the bottom right corner of the MID, and two in the main area of the MID. Check out the below image.

There is one trip meter on the bottom right corner of the MID. This will be reset by pressing the reset button on the instrument cluster. In the main area of the MID, you can see another trip meter with distance displayed. This is the short term trip meter which auto resets after the car has been off for 2 hours. The small "1" just above the text "Distance" indicates this is the short term trip meter.

If you press the "OK" button, the main area of the MID displays the other trip meter. Note the text "2".

The trip meters in the main MID can be reset by long press of the OK button on the steering wheel.

Sorry about the quality of the images. There was lot of dust on the instrument cluster and there was direct sunlight shining on the MID enhancing the dust effect!

My jetta is a 2015 model (2.0 TDI Highline) bought in May this year. Yes I do have the MID, and yes, I now understand what you mean by two trip meters. I only noticed the one at the bottom Right which can be reset by pressing the reset button.

Question: The meters in the MID itself (the 1 and the 2), are they both short term meters, meaning reset after two hours of engine off? If that's the case, it's not really useful.

No. Only "1" is short term. "2" is long term and it keeps counting till you reset. This is very useful for checking long term average fuel consumption, total run time of the vehicle etc.

Yes but unfortunately my 2014 jetta came along with the 190B version which is without the rear camera support :Frustrati

Not exactly Ganesh. Memory 2 resets when the engine running time exceeds 99 hours and 59 minutes or when the distance crosses 9999 km, whichever comes first.

During our Ladakh trip, we were recording the stats every day after stopping the car in the evening and on the 10th day or so, it reset itself in the middle of the journey after the running time exceeded 99:59. :p

Even my Jetta does not have the rear camera input in the Bosch RCD510. I was planning to add reverse camera to the Jetta, but later dropped the idea because of this.

Wow. Did not know that. I usually use "2" to find average fuel consumption between tank fills, and hence never have reached the 99:59 hours mark :)

I am not even sure if the RCD510 used in the Indian cars have this video input. I use my car DVR that came with dual camera and enabling the reverse camera is a 10 minute DIY or max 30minutes depending on the time it takes to remove some trims to move the wires back to the rear windshield and tail light.

But its not New Jersey where i need to parallel park and we usually bump our way into those tiny spots and no one actually worries about that. If you are in north jersey and you worry about someone bumping while parking you will go insane in few days watching it right in front of your eyes :)

I am travelling to India and i am going to try and carry the DVR back here as it is currently unused in India.

Can anybody recommend a denting and painting shop in Delhi for a Jetta ? Its grey in color. One door has to be done. Some places have been recommended in Garage section but no so convinced for them.

Also the door has speakers and some foam in it. That is not going to be a hindrance right ?

I have misplaced my wheel lock key somewhere. What could be the charge for replacement keys from dealer. Is there any way to remove the tire without having supplied key?

Planning to go for a long trip in this vacation and travelling without those keys wont be a wise idea considering the road conditions and distance from VW service stations.

It is not an add-on, came along with Jetta. After the PDC sales person advised me to keep the key somewhere safer, than keeping inside the car.

I did the same, Kept in some safer place :) , Now it is in most safest place even I cant find it. stupid:

Oh boy! Now I should search for and find my wheel lock key as well - do not recall seeing anything in the kit they provided an year back!

Related note friends - my first "problem" with VW service just began: my 2014 Jetta barely - just barely - kissed the number plate of a lorry in front in a tight turning situation and the only part that came in contact with the truck was the front left headlight assembly.

The glass in front has cracked - its not even fallen off - I can probably tape it back. Talked to Apple Auto guys in Bangalore last evening and 2 issues:

1. They cannot just replace the glass that has cracked - they want to replace the entire headlight assembly and charge me some 14k! wtf?

2. This also involves waiting time - they cannot just replace the part - apparently they have to first locate where this part is and then procure it just for me.

Any suggestions? Good old-fashioned tape? I know a pic would have helped (pls take my word - nothing is broken except the glass and that too right in the middle), but I dont have a pic right now and am looking for guidance on what to do next? Somewhere I can procure just the glass from? I dont want to spend 14k for this - needless to say - even with insurance, it will be very expensive I guess.

One more unrelated problem: my fuel-door is not unlocking. It does from time to time - just not when I want it to! From a manual inspection of the lock assembly - the lock assembly seems fine, the part on the fuel-door seems to be somehow "sticking" to the lock part and not separating when needed. Any suggestions for a quick-fix or do I have to stop by the service-center for this one too?

@ddis_dude - my sympathies man, I can empathise. I hit an eagle with my headlight glass (only a small hole in the glass, just like yours) and had to shell out 60K for a whole bi-xenon assembly to be procured from Germany.
