Parking Senors : Don't buy front parking sensors as they are all over the place and not accurate at all. It will just be a beep sound and no visual cue. The audio cue from these sensors i.e. the 'beep' isn't as effective as the rear parking sensors. I got it installed as i got it complimentary and i used it once or twice and didn't find it useful at all. Believe me you will get used to your vehicles dimension in 2-3 days.

Mood lighting : Mood lighting or footwell lamp isn't necessarily needed unless you are used to it and wiring is needed. I had it stock in my Honda City and Polo and didn't have it in harrier. I have come to appreciate the absense of it as it's less distracting during night drives moreover there is a beauty in simplicity and harrier's console i.e. ac unit , infotainment, MID and other switches illuminate and look good while driving at night. So this has to be your call. It's subjective.

ORVM Silhouette projection puddle lamps:- Harrier by default comes with a 'warning' light on all 4 doors so that when you open them during night then people from far off distance can see that your car's door is open, these also serve as puddle lamp as well. They have enough illumination. Again, subjective.

TPMS :- You should definitely get this but get Sensairy or JK treel installed from a tyre vendor. These two are mostly used.

Got the dreaded DPF error at 4000 odd km. To be fair, we had a vacation at Amboli which has a lot of narrow twist and turns and plenty of bad roads. Not to mention ghat sections. Interestingly got an exact amount of km until which the engine will work.

Actually, it's not a DPF error but a DEF error. It happens when the DEF/Urea dosing system malfunctions. It's completely different from DPF, i.e., Diesel Particulate filter. Anyway, it's not related to your driving pattern; rather, it's a part malfunction.

So do I need to visit the showroom for this? The warning has since gone and only the check engine light is on. Is it safe to drive? I'm about 300km and 6 hours away from home in a fairly secluded area. Called TASS and was told it's safe to drive.

The dosing malfunction means that the exhaust system won't work at its optimum, but the car will work fine for a certain number of kilometres, as shown by the warning on your console. So visit the service centre once you reach your home town. Believe me, the more modern these cars are getting, the more headaches they are creating. And if it's any consolation, it's not just you or just TATA cars. My XUV keeps throwing one or another tantrum every now and then.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I wonder if the 4094 km is 4094km on top of current (I'm safe) or 4094 km in total (I'm at 4021 km odo - I'm dead). I know it's supposed to be former, but I'm not sure how good in grammar these guys are!

It is basically like your fuel low warning. It is showing that the DEF present in your car is good for another 4094kms. Having said that, do not take it down all the way down else the car might go into limp mode. You should be good for your 300km drive and as soon you reach home, get the DEF topped up at your service center. Post that all should be good, nothing to worry about.:thumbs up

DEF dosing malfunction error is normal IF the night time temperature where you were staying was in the single digit, once the vehicle runs in normal weather during the day time for a while it would go away.

As long as BS6 vehicles get some regular highway running, say once a month at least you wont face any issues, just make sure to fill from busy fuel stations.

I do not have this issue but different set of issues now, I've noticed system restarts on its own during drive sometimes, wired AA also disconnects on its own from time to time. All this wasn't happening with previous update;

One more irritating issue is that the GPS signal keeps jumping to adjacent lane, shows wrong direction etc and so on.

No resolution yet.

This seems to be it. The temperature was low, though not single digits, at amboli. Drove a bit on sports mode and the check engine light was gone too! Hope this is the end of it. Thanks a lot y'all.

Thank you for your kind words. Today morning the check engine sign went away after driving around 5 min in sports mode. No idea if this was the reason or just coincidence. Drove around 100 km till the McDonald's at kolhapur and no error signs. Safe to say I don't understand this DEF/DPF at all!

Just an update on this,
Went to the Service center and they connected the V-Connect and erased the fault.
Further, I was informed by the Service advisor, that there is a quirk in the system for the harrier and safari.
The Service reminder by time and distance will show up as per pre-determined values set into the system.
If we conduct a service before the reminder pops up, there is no way for the service center to reset this countdown (which runs in the background, and only pops up when it designed to do so). So, the only way to reset the countdown is when it pops up by long pressing the reset button on the MID.
Further, the same scenario also exists with the Red Oil Dripping lamp. This too will show up at pre-determined times as fed into the ECU/System. Both on Harrier and Safari. Again
the only way to reset this is when it shows up. It cannot be reset when we give the car for service before the scheduled time. And this can only by reset at the showroom with the V-Connect module, unlike the MID reminder. :Shockked:

I actually found it quite funny. Coz, that means after every service, in almost all cases, i will have to go back again after a few days/distance covered to reset this oil lamp alarm, when it eventually pops up. :Frustrati

You're not alone, it's safe to say even TASS personnel do not understand this system at all.


I have a question here, is there any way to know the % of clogging in the DPF filter? Can we do a scan and determine how much is the system clogged? Assuming that the warning comes up after it is substantially clogged (~75 to 80%), I'd rather take it out on the highway sometime before it hits that level if this info could be gleaned somehow.

Yeah I got it solved, went to SC they reset it. Now it looks okay, but some time in a specific area near my house it always disconnects and then later connects when I am driving not sure why it happens and only at that specific section.

Unless someone here knows for certain, I'm gonna assume that it's 4094km in total. You should post on Twitter or something and then let them come to you, if that's the case.

Is there a lock/unlock button for doors from inside? I am referring to 2013 XZA+. Say, I have stopped the car and the passengers need to exit, I am unable to find the unlock button the door pad. Wondering if I missed something, tried reading through the manual, but can't seem to find one.
