Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I recently became the owner of a Jimny Zeta MT. Got delivery 23.12.2023. Have done almost 900kms in the past 5days. I have been driving my beloved 1999 September Maruti 800(bought brand new by my late father on 13.09.1999) since 2009 and has clocked around 1.40lac km. Of which 1lac kms driven is by me. Since, this is a big upgrade for me. I'll highlight a few points in no particular order, which are entirely my personal opinion.

1. Engine feels adequate. Not lacking in power. But neither bristling with oodles of power. Drive in a relaxed manner and you'll find it to be sufficient for majority of the regular use cases.

2. Due to the compact dimensions, feels extremely nimble in the city. Almost as much as my Maruti 800.

3. I came from a mechanically linked accelerator pedal where response is instantaneous almost. But found zero issues with the accelerator response of the Jimny. Didn't feel the need to add something like the throttle controller to make the car feel more responsive to the accelerator pedal.

4. The ride quality is amazing. I have set it to 30psi. Down from the 42psi filled at the showroom, but 4psi higher than what MSIL suggests. Still very comfortable. I'll drop it down another couple of psi if need be. But for now 30psi feels absolutely fine for the ride quality

5. The lack of storage space, though not exactly a concern for me, can be a concern for many. And this is very true of the Jimny about the lack of storage space.

6. It isn't exactly a fuel sipper but neither did it feel to be a fuel guzzler. City drives have yielded me 10-11KMPL in heavy to moderately heavy traffic. I am yet to experience extremely heavy traffic. Hence can't comment on that. Highway as long as one is within 80-90KMPH, mileage comes in decent at 13-14KMPL. Beyond that fuel efficiency takes a toll due to the shorter gearing and the brick like aerodynamics of the vehicle.

7. Space is a concern for many a people. I am 5'7" and most of my co passengers are either the same or usually shorter. Haven't faced any problem regarding seat comfort. But I do understand that someone taller than me in the front or rear seat will most surely have a lack of underthigh support which can be discomforting over long distances.

Overall, I fully acknowledge the drawbacks of the car and have accepted it before booking. And am happy overall with my purchase. The Bluish Black colour though is a dust and dirt magnet. Nothing I do will stop the dust from covering every part of the car. Except washing the car everytime I take it out to make it look clean. That's about it from me.

Regards,
Subhra

Attached are some pictures of my Jimny.

Is it just me or has anyone else also observed this. I was getting average of approximate 11 Kmpl in gurgaon traffic. I used Bharat petroleum speed and my average has increased to 14.5. Maruti Jimny Review-img_4584.jpeg

As I am planning for a trip to Leh in Feb. though of getting underbody protection. After searching online though of getting it done from Bimbra.

Installation took 30 mins and quality seems very solid and it weights around 30 kg. Definitely will add some weight to the body but I feel it’s required for proper off road trips.

An update - Finally a visit from the factory people led to the sensor reset and corrected alignment.

So the steering sensor needs to be set first before adjusting the toe.

No response from the officials on the fact that I had requested sensor reset much earlier based on feedback on this form.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Was planning to do winter Spiti
Went for 10 k service
Instead of 0W16, the service centre is recommending 5W30 fully synthetic

Will it have any issues with warranty later on or issues in extreme cold?

0W16 has better flowing properties in cold weather than 5W30. I’m not sure why the service center would recommend the latter when it’s going to be bitterly cold when you crank the engine every morning.

Hey, could you please share an underbody picture of the plate installed. Would be good to see how much area the plate covers. I'm presuming this fits in the middle to protect the transfer case.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Has anyone actually installed 205/70-15 AT tyres on his Jimny? What is the feedback with regards to ride quality, ground clearance and off-road grip as compared to the stock 195's?

Apart from better flowing properties, 0w16 is far cheaper than 5w30 that MASS usually peddle.

During 3rd service of my Grand Vitara, Dwarka Nexa MASS were recommending 5w40 which was almost three times expensive than 0w16.

Don’t fall for that BS!

Thank you for the confirmation regarding this issue. Was it like this YouTube video that was shared earlier? Where the steering has to be turned in the opposite direction of the way it's leaning and then reset the sensor? Sharing the video here again:

Glad to hear your issue is resolved now! Will definitely cite your post to the service centre if I ever encounter this issue. Any more details you can share about the producure would be helpful to everyone here.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I was informed there are no Automatic units available. Bangalore NEXA has geared ones in single digits. Will Suzuki make fresh numbers in 2024, or is this car dropped from plans?

I have a feeling that by and by, they will make it on special order and only based on an earnest payment, like they used to do in the case of the Gypsy. The Jimny clearly is NOT for everyone, and will never be appreciated by the acolytes of ‘road presence’ and the worshippers of ‘might’ and the believers in ‘bulk’.

It seems higher octane petrol is having benefits for K15B engine. I read somewhere else as well that good efficiency gains have been reported by using Power fuels.

I am also interested in underbody protection for 2 reasons:
1) Protection from Stones etc.
2) Better Aerodynamics helps handling.

What amount of work was required for adding the protection - was it a direct fit or they had to drill holes and all?
