Re: Maruti Jimny Review

A few pictures from a short weekend drive to Karjat Riverside. Did not venture in the water, just drove on the rocks.

Jimny Fender Bender

Moderstors: Please feel free to move this to appropriate forum.

Yesterday, my Jimny was involved in a little fender bender incident. I took a right turn into the main road, which is a 4 lane road. There was a car that was stopped in the right most lane, so I took the left-most lane and as I passed the car, the passenger of the car standing still opened the car door. The edge of the car door got stuck in between spoilers of the rear right wheel well. It not only took off the spoiler but also bent (and slightly cracked) the rear bumper.

No, I did not argue or fight over as these things are not worth fighting over and especially if one has insurance. Post incident examination reveals that I can replace the spoiler as it is screwed to the chassis with nut bolts.

I would like to know if the bumper can be "plastic welded" ? I am sure if I take this to Maruti service station, they would recommend full replacement of the rear bumper. I don't want to replace the entire rear bumper as it is still good.

So, I would like to know

1. Cost of rear wheel well spoiler.
2. Is welding the crack on the rear bumper recommended ?

Thank you.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Good to hear how patient you were despite unnecessary damage to your Jimny. I have seen plastic welding sort of jugaad with bumper repairs in the past. You should check out some of the denting workshops specialising in bumper repairs and enquire.
However, I feel that it may not get repairs with 100% finesse and if it's is new possession, better get it changed.

What I love most about Jimny is that the external trims are dirt cheap compared to other cars in the market.

Jimny bumper costs 1750 (and no painting charges), the fender will cost around 500.

Go for a replacement. Try FNG for installation. The service centre will try ti rob you with the installation charges.

Jimny parts are very reasonably priced. In your case, provided there's no other internal damage, you can expect to spend approx Rs 3000-3500/= max on replacement parts. This should cover the cost of a new RR wheelarch extension and the rear bumper purchase/s and fitment (including labour).

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Noticed a fair bit of oil mixed with dust on my steering box. Steering is also a bit tighter of late. Anyone with a similar problem? My Jimny has done about 21k now.

Someone has reported a similar problem on BigJimny. No solution mentioned though.

Drive on,

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Hey guys, an information needed from all Jimny owners who had done hardwiring setup for powering the dashcam. I have ordered Redtiger f7np model from their official website.

They have provided 2 options of hardwire kit to choose from in the website.
1. Double 4-Fuse
2. OBD Hardwire Kit.

May I know which will go with Jimny? I received a call today from Redtiger team since they aren't sure if Jimny is compatible with OBD hardwire kit.

Appreciate the input
