Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Are there any discounts for the Jimny in Chennai? I have been on the lookout but the dealers I enquired aren't budging one bit from the 17.xx OTR here.

Have spoken to the service center and they said they'll take up the replacement. Let's see how long that takes.

Two weeks after billing me 750 rupees to simply look at the car for a repair to be done in warranty, there is no sign of this part having been ordered for replacement. This is hardly a premium service from Maruti/Nexa.

I have a trip planned for Ladakh next month and I'm hoping to have the car ready by the end of this month with mods and service done before that. But all depends on when Maruti/Nexa can complete this repair.

There is no point to have a warranty or extended warranty if you get billed for simply checking the car (while asking for warranty repair) and the parts are nowhere in sight after the fact.

Invoice for checking the car. 2 weeks old. No updates from Nexa.

I have never updated my Infotainment yet on my January 25 Jimny. Can you let me know the process and the changes in the system.

Go to the settings of your Jimny infotainment system & check which is the current software version. It will be either 80TA.03.00 or 80TA.07.00.

Next, on your computer/ laptop, log on to Suzuki Global Infotainment System Portal. Under software update, select model code as 80TA. Doing so will take you to system versions available. In case your system’s version is still 80TA.03.00, then it is better to update first to 80TA.07.00 & then to 80TA.07.50, ie in two steps.

Insert a completely blank pen drive & download the file provided against each version. Do not change the file name. Follow the instructions mentioned on that page. Once copied, put the ignition to ON (do not start the engine) & insert the pen drive to USB slot in the car. Make sure you pull up the HAND BRAKE first otherwise, the process will not start. Ideally on reading the pen drive, a display will pop up on screen with instructions for software update. If not then go to settings & select software for the update. Do not switch off or remove key till the software installation process is completed. It should take 5 to 10 minutes. You will get a pop-up informing you that the update is complete. Make sure to delete the earlier file from the pen drive when you copy the next update version.

As such there are no visible changes after the update. However, sometimes complaints of system hanging get resolved.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Hello
Has anyone installed a Torsen differential on the Jimny? Please share details and experience. I do not intend doing hardcore off reading but have done driving on snow/ice covered roads. With snow chains of course. Planning to upgrade to a torsen. Not looking at lockers though.

Congratulations and wish you many miles of happy motoring & off roading!

The stock tyres are quite capable and if you are not hell bent on changing tyres or not into hardcore serious off roading, you may wish to wait for some more time before upsizing. If you do upsize, 215/75-R15 is the most suited and popular upsize for Jimny, on the stock alloy rims. Anything wider than 215's is not recommended on the stock rims at least. You will find many choices in 215's. Most are good. None superlative! A middling choice is 225/70-R15. This is a odd size and you may not find ready stock at retail outlets.

Your model, I see, is the top variant. So it is pretty well kitted out already. What i suggest is that you do some miles in your car; understand it fully, appreciate its honest character & goodness and try to overlook its foibles and irritants and then take a call on what you wish to upgrade.
The trouble with cars like Jimny, LR Defender is that they are literally "money pits".
Once the upgrade and modification bug bites: there's no stopping! Zillions of stuff are available online and elsewhere so that you can do up your Jimny in a million ways! And there seems to be no end to improvements!
I know. I have been a victim of it so much so that the wifey has now declared that I have remarried again - to the Jimny!

Drive safe & enjoy!
Cheers!

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. Just yesterday night I took a call to stick with OE tyres and your reply reinforced that. Like you cautioned will not bite the upgrade bug yet.

For a start, please get some storage (in and around center console) for the SUV. Till the storage did not arrive, it was difficult to stow away water bottles, phones and other tit-bits. Rest, you can gauge your requirements with usage and proceed accordingly.

Hi @abist.

Congratulations and your Jimny looks simple and elegant with those subtle mods.

Quick question - Is the ladder being used functuionally or just put for aesthetic purpose? Asking because, the ladder is installed at the far edge of the rear door. Usually I have seen it placed near to the door hinges which may give it additional support when someone climbs on it. Just curious.

Cheers
