Re: 2024 Kia Sonet Facelift Review

The price increase is around 1k only (ex- showroom) so on road the price impact would be only around 1.5-2K. Not a significant increase. I just hope that they do not increase it again after October.

There might be anniversary edition round the corner which they will probably launch around 9th Oct. If there are booking cancellations, then dealers might offer discounts (quite unlikely though). Mostly they only adjust insurance prices by matching it with online value, and quote it as a discount.

Re: 2024 Kia Sonet Facelift Review

Hi everyone - this is my first post here in Team BHP - wanted to share my purchase experience with Kia Sonet Facelift HTX iMT TGDi Petrol.

I wanted to exchange my Hyundai i10 Magna 1.1 which had aged 12.5 years in Delhi-NCR.

SELECTION

Compact SUV was the target , hence the shortlisted cars were as follows:

- Hyundai Venue : Target version = S(O) Turbo MT. Hyundai had recently added sunroof with map lamps to this version. I was offered a discount of 50k on this variant (for stock inventory) - without any negotiations. Last updated in 2022, Venue is in desperate need of a facelift - which is finally coming next year as per the news.

- Maruti Suzuki Brezza : Target version = ZXI. Bad showroom experience - typical sarkari attitude, was kept waiting, no followups. 6 airbags only in top variant (ZXI+) , very aged interiors. No discount was offered.

- Tata Nexon : Target version = Creative. Bad ergonomics, Fit and finish issues, Noisy Turbo petrol engines. All-touchscreen dashboard was another letdown. Huge discounts was being offered : 80k on Creative + and 1L on Creative + S respectively (1.2 Turbo Petrol MT).

- Mahindra 3XO : Target version = AX5. It was just launched, had a too long waiting time (2-3 months). Plus it is not a good recommended to buy the first batch of new cars in India. Also, it has a smaller boot - unable to fit my kid's stroller.

- Kia Sonet : Target version = HTX iMT. Test drove it and liked it immediately , especially the clutch-free experience, premium interiors, both-tyre disc brakes, 6 airbags, silent engine / good NVH levels, rear sun-blinds, big boot space to fit my kid's stroller, front parking sensors, decent Kia after-sales service. HTX DCT was out of my budget. Although no upfront discount was offered, but managed a final discount of around 51k - stock inventory - this was for the pre-July update version i.e. no alloys, rear wiper, wireless phone charger. Used the booked-at-another-dealer tactic for the discount : Patience is the key.

Finally decided the Sonet over Venue purely on the ‘newness’ factor.
Colour chosen was Imperial Blue (Intense Red was not in stock).
Final on-road price after discount came out to be 12.65L (without the exchange - Haryana registration).

DELIVERY
Since the car was in stock, it was delivered the next day after diligently following Team-BHP PDI checklist. I verified the manufacturing year and date using VIN. Also, added the extended warranty (4th/5th year limited kms) and some basic accessories - and it was good to go. Dealer did not push for any extra accessories. Exchange price for the old car was renegotiated from 70k to 1.1L . Online portals and local dealers both were offering 1.15L. Car exchange was done on the day of delivery. The delivery process itself was quick and efficient. HSRP Number plates arrived after 1.5 week and registration smart card after 1 month.

DRIVING
Driving experience is a bliss with iMT - especially when you are stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Not sure why Hyundai discontinued it.
The transition from MT to iMT was seamless for me at least.
Overtaking is not an issue with the Turbo.

I was dreading the mileage on this - finally got the following figures ( I am a sedate driver ):

- City driving (traffic) = 10-12 kmpl
- City driving (no traffic) = 14-15 kmpl
- Highway driving (no cruise control) = 17-18 kmpl
- Highway driving (with cruise control) = 19-20 kmpl

Completed the first free service recently with 800 km on the odometer after 1 month.

I haven't installed the dashcam offered by Kia as an official accessory but have installed one which I bought from Amazon, I have installed Nexdigitron Ac2 with gps. It's decent dashcam for daylight but you can't read number plate if the vehicle is going through some bad roads, the videos footage becomes slightly blurry and number plate becomes unreadable. But if you are going on a good road then the number can be easily identified upto 15 meters. I am planning to upgrade to a better dual channel dashcam letter hence I didn't invest much for the single channel. I bought it for 4.5k from Amazon.

They are 16''!
I chose comfort over aesthetic so did not go for 17''
16'' rims wrapped around factory fitted Apollo.
Thus 16''

Nice, I think 16" is the perfect size for comfort and looks. The 17" would be an overkill and will worsen the ride quality. Have you purchased it before June 2024? Because after June, Sonet comes with Alloy wheels and rear wiper-washer for mere 20k on road. I think old owners of HTX model feel cheated (I'm one of them).

Mine is early May and actually I don't feel cheated reason being I wanted alloys for stance purpose in any case the rims would have been changed. For the wiper not a very big fan as I like clean look from rear. They only feature I really wanted was factory fitted Dashcam but I got mine covered thanks to Qubo Pro X.

Re: 2024 Kia Sonet Facelift Review

Hi Everyone,

My Kia Sonet GTX was delivered last week and after driving some 150 odd Km, I thought of checking the tyre pressure on TPMS. To my utter surprise, the reading was shown as 45-46 psi. Is that normal? According to me, this should have been around 30-32 psi. I had not checked the tyre pressure at the time of delivery and I did not fill air after that.

I suspect that the pressure was high for the purpose of transporting the vehicle from manufacturing to the local workshop. The tyres should have been deflated to a lower pressure (suitable for driving) prior to delivery, which was not done. Is my understanding correct?

Yes, it is correct. However, unfortunately, none of the dealers bother to deflate the tyres to the correct pressure before delivery. It is the onus of the buyer to do that. But I am a little surprised, 47 PSI would result in a bone-jarring ride. If you haven't noticed it, reducing it to 32-24 PSI would make it feel like a car from two segments above.

Seriously? The onus is on the buyer? Pretty surprising.
Yes, I haven't noticed any great discomfort; may be because this is my first experience with a MUV and automatic car and I have nothing to compare with.
Anyway, I have raised this with Kia India Customer Care and I expect they care . Will update on that too once they revert.

BTW, I also noticed on the next day of delivery itself that a message was frequently popping up on the digi-cluster where the RPM reading is shown. It read something like "the car is in Shifting Mode" or "Transport Mode" (I don't remember exactly). I long pressed OK to remove that and it then disappeared. Now I can guess that message was coming because the dealer didn't do any checks before the car was delivered. :(

Thanks a lot for your reply.

32 PSI is the sweetspot. The rule of thumb is to take the PSI of the manufacturer and reduce that by 2-3.
I guess you were referring to 'Shipping Mode'. The dealers are supposed to do a PDI, remove shipping mode and activate Kia connect before handing the car to you. It seems to be a case of dealer neglect.

Yes, Shipping Mode! Complete neglect at dealer end.

And many thanks for the PSI suggestion.
