No offense to owners or team members, but the Roxx is an extremely ill-designed vehicle in terms of looks. A vehicle is supposed to have continuous lines, symmetry, and harmony, which should not jarringly break. It is all over the place in the Roxx.

Harmonious lines and symmetry are all good, but in the Thar, I dont think that was the point anyway. It has to be tall, butch-looking, offer a capable 4x4 and seat 5 in relative comfort (for a BOF off-roader).The most important thing is that it should still be a Thar, it should not break that essential DNA that captured our imagination. And credit where credit's due - Mahindra has not strayed away from this factor.

Now, to answer your points :

1. Different colored door handles.

> A simple solution is to just have it painted the same color if you don't like it :)

If you look at the general trend of integrated C-door handles, you will find they are always a different color like these two examples below. Agreed, they are more tasteful in the Swift & Punch, but that is not a design catastrophe in the Roxx in my humble opinion :

2. The rear seating area, piece of metal running on the top door, just appears out of nowhere, and ends nowhere. Of course it serves a purpose to provide strut support to the roof.

> You hardly notice it after a while.

3. The triangular window, when the whole car is box shaped.

> For legal purposes, in case Jeep comes calling.

4. The circular head lights transformed to 'C', again no continuity. No end, just a jarring cut-off. Why a 'C'

> Personally, I just love that C. It looks very distinctive from a distance. You won't mistake it for any other vehicle. Perhaps Mahindra had prototypes with the classic "O" LEDs, but then went with C anyway.

5. The alloy spokes (or what ever we can call them), one is longer than the other. Looks so weird.

> Okay, but really does it matter ?

6. The 7 - slat, which begins and ends with "smaller slats'. Why would they do that?

> Again, purely for legal reasons. That said, we will surely see grilles with outlandish slats soon. It's all a blank canvas for the customer to decide.

Maybe I can just surmise it with one image :

One thing is to be creative and do certain things, but he has created the ugliest side profile. I am not aware of his past work, but he must have done better things in the past. Hopefully, Mahindra addresses this in version II whenever they come. However, their priority would be to bring 3 Door to Roxx level. As I mentioned previously also, the lower purchase point of 3 Door is real and going to be a factor especially given the age of our population.

Thanks, I thought this was the only car:disappointed

For whatever reason, it appears very pronounced and looks visually very bad on Roxx.

Btw, would you like to share your valuable view on the reason why are masses crazy about it despite it being such “extremely ill-designed vehicle” ?.

Many designs have a cult following, Jeep/ G Wagon/ Land Cruiser/ Defender and even Jimny, Boxy shapes probably go well with many. My first dream car was "Armada" when I used to drive old shaped Maruti 800.

However, having an aspiration for a certain thing does not necessarily mean, it's the best or without any issues. If we look at the options for people who have such aspirations- boxy/ butch SUVs what else is the alternative? Wrangler is 3 times the price and everything else is even higher. Jimny is the only exception but many people want something bigger and Mahindra has found this sweet spot.

I used to completely ignore Marutis and only focus on MM540 DP's and Armadas back in the day. I read that it was designed by Dilip Chabbria (DC design) but I cannot confirm it.

Coming to the Roxx, I was hoping really bad that they would name it Thar Armada. I even used to joke that it was Tharmada! I still have not reconciled to the Roxx nameplate, but whatever - it is a Thar 5 door as far as I am concerned!

Agreed with your most points. Thankfully I spend most of my time behind the steering wheel instead of looking at the car from outside.

For me, Pratap Bose is a motivation for thousands of people wrt how you can be absolutely mid at your job and still fail upwards in life.

I absolutely despise him for making all Tatas look the same and now ruining Roxx. Mahindra should've looked at how INEOS modernised Defender design as inspiration for Grenadier.

Does anyone know why Mahindra isn't using pininfarina for their designs?

I have a Thar Roxx Stealth Black AX7L. I just love the car and want to make a small modification in the front grill. Need suggestion on whether to do this or not or any other suggestions.

Inside the vertical bars of the grill (not on the part, which is visible directly in the front, that will continue to be black nor the mesh), I want to add a grey/ silver color (similar to the bumper), to make it a little brighter as pure black for me becomes a little boring, especially when seen from distance.

Please see the attached pic, something like this, which gives it more visible lines is what I am thinking.

Please let me know your thoughts.

The problem is, due to the trapezoidal shape of the grille, after-market grills available for the Thar 3 door will not fit the Roxx. The edges of the lower half of the grill sloping inward create an asymmetry which is difficult to solve elegantly. Prathap Bose has not only spoiled the look of the grill in the Roxx but also thrown a visual design challenge to the fraternity on how to bring the front look back to being elegant and clean. Please see picture atatched on the difference between the elegant outline area for the grill in the 3-door versus the cramped angular one in the Roxx.

Only way I can see is to make out the entire lower half of the grill and go to the 7 slats just for the upper half, which will make for a narrower grill but at least it will not look so gawky. Something like the below:

Is it not possible to lock/unlock all the doors using the driver-side door? This feature was present in my 2009 Scorpio. If it’s not available, that’s quite a disappointment.

Thanks, I just tried this today and it works. However, I wish they had provided a more elegant and convenient switch like one of the blank, unused ones below the ICE console. It is not ergonomically convenient to reach for the door lock, when you are seated inside, with set belt still strapped on and just want to open the boot for the security at the mall or office. On my 3-door, the doors would automatically open when I move the gear lever from Drive to Park.

Can you check if this behavior is not due to auto-hold function of the electronic parking brake? I have read few members mention the auto hold release to be quite erratic and urgent. I had experienced similar behavior in 3XO. What helped me ease the auto hold release during my Roxx test drive was to release brake manually and then accelerating.

MX3 AT does not have auto-hold. I was just referring to the Auto Start/Stop, whereby when your foot is firmly pressed on the brake, the car switches off the engine if there is snough juice on the battery and when you take your foot off the brake, the engine comes back on again. It is better to take ones' foot off the brake gradually as it is easier to control the car that way from moving forward unexpectedly.

You can also just rotate your steering wheel 10-20 degrees and the car will start. You don't have to take the foot off the brake to start the car.

That's like the Wrangler right ? A good detailer should be able to work something close to your specifications, within limits.

  • The roof liner gets dirty fast, as it is made of very light coloured fabric as people already mentioned. Right when the car was delivered, I could already see dirt marks and fingerprints of the people who inspected the car at the dealership. I always wonder, why do people working in Car dealerships never wear gloves of otherwise protect vehicle interiors from getting so badly soiled, even when they do a very key job on the car interior, like preparing it for delivery?

Yesterday I visited my dealer yard to do the PDI of My TRoxx MX3 P AT. While the PDI was satisfactory but I was appalled to see the way they handled interior of the cars. Many dirty finger prints on the side panel and roofline :Shockked:

So today me and my friend have fixed that protruding camera rod on spare wheel after removing the wheel cover on my MX3 variant. My friend is engaged in metal works business. We did the work at his workshop.
The camera unit is removal and wiring is attached through a plug only. We removed the camera unit. Cut the rod and then shortened it. Welded the shortened rod and painted it. Reinstalled the camera unit.
Rear Camera works as intended. And we took care to not cut the rod too short or else there could be possibility that parts of spare wheel may come in rear camera view field.

Attached the photos of the work we did. Hope it helps.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-whatsapp-image-20241211-9.32.04-pm.jpeg

Finally! got the delivery of Thar ROXX. Mahindra delivered on the day as promised :Cheering:

I booked Thar ROXX AX7L P AT Battleship grey on 3rd October 11:01:30 AM (the time of payment made on GPay). The booking ID was 10003xxx.

On 25th October, I received an email about estimated delivery date from 11-12-2024 to 10-01-2025.

The wait was excruciating. I regularly called the Mahindra customer support for the update. Also visited the showroom a few times.

On 13th November I received an email from dealer regarding my booking. It was a generic message with contact details of various persons in the dealership.

On 1st December I got a WhatsApp message from dealership that my car is to be dispatched soon and is expected to reach the dealership in two weeks.

On 5th December I received another email from dealership that Thar Roxx is expected to reach dealership within 1 week.

On 10th December I made a follow up call and I was told that the vehicle was received yesterday evening at the stockyard. I went for the PDI the same day and took the delivery next day(11th December).

I was asked about the accessories but I politely refused. I took only what I wanted. The accessory guy lost interest when I rejected ceramic, anti-rust, dashcam, radiator guard etc. I bought Mud flaps, Silver body cover, Bottom door cladding, Screen protector, Piano black mirror applique and Sporty pedal set. I wanted few other accessories but they weren't available.

The insurance quote I got from PolicyBazaar was 54K from Tata AIG. The dearer offered me 82K for ICICI Lombard. Finally he quoted me Digit insurance for 62K. I asked him for Tata AIG and he gave me 63K quote which I took.

There were many dirt marks inside the car. The dealer tried to clean it but I am not sure they would go off easily.

The Battleship Grey color looks different(more blueish) in photo/videos than in real life.

An advice: On the delivery day visit the showroom as early as possible. Somehow it eats up the whole day.

I was apprehensive as it's my first Mahindra car but overall the experience was good.

As far as the driving experience, it's a huge jump for me from Renault Triber to Thar Roxx. I wouldn't lie, the thought "Did I make the right decision?" came across my mind while driving back home rl:

It's day one so let's see how heart over mind goes.

Congrats ! I guess you are Lucky to get exactly on the Date given by M&M..!:thumbs up

^^
Congratulations! That color looks quite surreal! You used which dealer out of Dee Emm or Koncept ?

Thanks for sharing. Did you not try to put the "Beauty Hub Cap" like the ones available in the higher variants? I saw on YouTube its only INR 74.
