Very recently i had done with a long drive for about 1000 kms.I got a mileage of 18 kmpl.My car has done 2700 kms.
At how many Kms it is better to change the engine oil and what does the Tata motors suggest in this respect. Please any one on this forum.
Thanks in advance

Dear IIoydofcochin, i have had a 20k service done recently. Oil change required is appr 4.5 lit ( @ rs 1000/- a lit) + fuel filter & the total cost is around 5500/-, but i drive a saffire 90 ( petrol ) & hope for QJD cost should not differ by much. |

Lloyd,
For Tata Manza Quadrajet, at 20K Km service, oil change, fuel filter, oil filter, Air filter, wheel balancing all will cost around Rs. 7500/-
Wheel alignment is done free. The oil used is synthetic, so it costs around Rs. 1000/- per litre.
Thanks to Ms. Deepa, Concorde Motors, Diary Circle, Bangalore for providing this information. |

Oil costed me 3268Rs(including the VAT) and Oil filter was 329.41. Notably they also charged a labour amount of 189 Rs. The service was done at St.Antonys Kottayam . It was okay but nothing compared to the service experience I normally encounter with KHT Motors, Bangalore. 3.2 litres of Mobil 1 0W-40 costed me 32 |
@ Nagesh Bhatt, Yogesh Naik & Sajanjohn, Thanks for the replies guys. I guess he paid around 7k for the service.
@Nagesh- Thanks. Able to figure out the issure and resolved it as well :)
20k service approaching in 3-4 days.
Need suggestions on what all to get done in that?
My grievances-
1- The AC is not working upto the mark. Issue seems to be with the blower rather than cooling as the air from blower even at fan speed 4 is very less.
2.-Lumbar support at drivers side is making noises and specially at speed breakers it seems something has cracked there.
3.-Brakes are not as effective as they were at around 10k.
4.- clutch seems a tad heavier.
5.-Both the front shockers need to be checked as ride is not as comfortable as before.
6.- Some rattling sound around steering which i am not able to figure out where is the exact spot for it.
7.- Wiper blades are not upto the mark.
Need suggestion if the blades should be changed from tata people are from outside?
8.- Can anything be done about high beam as i feel its quiet less even if i compare to the old indigo?
9.- Engine noise is more than before. What can be done about this?
Can remember only these by now.

Dear Harry,
Slight delay in reply, i hope the 20k service is yet to take place.
1. A/C needs servicing in the sense cleaning the filters & especially if your parking place is in proximity with trees, the dry leaves accumulate in the filter & hence the need for cleaning. I was feeling the same before servicing but noticed a considerable improvement in the a/c blast even at fan speed 1.
2. Lumbar support, i haven't faced this issue, could be some alignment thing.
3. For me, servicing for brakes was done at the 10k service after i had a tour of around 2200 kms at a stretch. There was a very faint sound one could hear as soon as one braked. They polished the surface edges & checked the brake oil & after that the brakes have been working miraculously.
4. Clutch heaviness is a very specific phenomenon & should not occur so early. One should not fiddle with the clutch alignment & at best they might remove some trapped air.
5. Front shockers will require replacement of bushes at best. I have been driving on roads with a fair share of potholes throughout the monsoon & at the time of servicing they checked & found the shockers to be in sound condition.
6. Rattling sound from steering is strange & again has to do with alignment i suppose. I have not faced this issue & the steering is sure & sturdy.
7. Wiper alignment is covered under electrical warranty & hence it is advisable to get it done from Tata's only. A month before the 20k service i had been to the service station to get my beams ( were not switching off due to excessive usage as i don't believe in honking much) repaired, they checked & replaced the assembly ( covered under warranty again ) & re did the wiper alignment as well. I was mildly pleased to see four sprouts ( jets of water ) whereas previously there were only two. ( My ignorance) And mind you, the wipers had undergone the severest of test working tirelessly throughout the vicious monsoon this season.
8. The sweep of the beams seems alright & perfect especially on dark, non illuminated roads/highways & in fact the vehicles facing the beam always think it to be in full ( beam ) position even if it's in the normal position.
9. Engine noise should reduce after oil change & tuning. Is there lot of noise while idling too ? My Safire engine tends to be more vocal only during downshifting & racing in high rpms & then it sounds very akin to a diesel engine. I am not aware of the type of engine you have on your Manza.
regards,
Do share your experience after the 20k service.
regards,
Nagesh,
During my long drive i could achieve a highest speed at 148kmph. Anyone on this forum who have got close to this or more??

1)The A/C is not that much effective in the Manza. When the A/C is switched on the power of the car reduces and the engine gets noisier and feels tired. Can anyone on this forum say what is the cc Capacity of the A/C installed in the Manza.
4)Clutch is normally harder in the Tata cars. If you shoot out this question to the service advisor he would say that saaaar this is far better saaaaar. In other cars its is much more worser saaar.
7) Wiper blades are indeed not upto the mark. You can try out to replace the same with something else outside rather than changing the same with an Tata one.
9) Normally the engine noise is more when the engine becomes older. You can ask the service advisor tho retune and reduce the idle rpm by remapping with the electronic ecu which is connected to the laptop and verified.
Other queries are normal and can be rectifed in the service.

Have Managed to touch 160 kmph in Bang to Salem route in my Manza QJT
@Nagesh- Thank fr the inputs. Service is scheduled for thursday so will update after that how it went.Have added couple of small issues in the previous mentioned list.
As far as i know engine oil is changed at 20k service. What else is changed?
Also i went to pick my friends indigo day before and the advisor there said the wiper blades, AC filter and shocker bushes are not covered in warranty. Is it true?
@rki2007- Agreed with all points except for AC effectiveness. IMHO its very effective and only since 20-25 days the less air from blower issue is coming. Also i never felt that power reduces with the AC on. Use to be a abig issue in my previous indigo however in Manza haven't felt that at all.
The exact problem that i am facing with my Manza is that the power of the car drastically reduces when the A/C is switched on plus the engine noise becomes very audible even at low RPM when the A/C is switched on. Can anyone explain on this.:Frustrati

Over 160 kph (IIRC, 165ish) :D. Car was nervous. Manza's behaviour is best < 140 kph.

Harry, Only oil change is required at the 20k service as per norm & any other change of parts will come after the service guy inspects the vehicle. There will be minor replacements like the oil filters/ air filters etc.
No, the wiper blades, shock up bushes, a/c filters are not covered under warranty. The electrical assembly of the beam sets, wipers, power windows etc is covered. You may not require to change wiper blades at all if these are not worn out & a proper re aligning should improve the performance. Even the a/c filters need not be replaced & a clean up job should do the trick.
Completed 20k 4th free service yesterday. Costed Rs.2.3k. Parts changed were Fuel Filter (Rs.2k approx) and Air Filter (Rs.300 approx). I got the Engine Oil and Filter changed at 15k km's and that was for Rs.4.1k. So maintenance cost of about Rs.6.5k for first 20k km's.
The SA tried to push for wheel alignment and balancing which I refused. I got that + rotation done at 15k km's outside, next at 30k, unless feel there is any alighment or balancing issue e.g. pulling or viabration. He also wanted to do some fuel lines cleaning etc for Rs.1,650 which seemed very expensive to me so again refused. Instead, I think I will use system D for two tank fulls (what do you suggest?). His initial service estimate was Rs.6k and I was like people buy Tata as they are VFM cars (to maintain as well). 6k for Manza service (w/o oil and filter change)! But then being a member of TBHP helps, my bill was 2.3k from initial estimate of 6k.
Inquired about the paid service and they said it's Rs.1250+taxes. Seems a little high, should be about 1k, but then this must be Tata fixed rate? Any idea what they will be doing at 30k, 50k service? Those services do not require any part changes (unless something is wrong), so all they will do will be washing/ cleaning and general check-up (of course Air Filter cleaning, which is a must at 10k). Overall those services seem like a waste of time and money. I think they should have suggested a 15k service interval for Manza like Linea with oil change at every service.
The new indigo manza CS could use more contemporary Aria head lights. I am sure proportionally Manza CS should be better than Manza.

Nice effort PKB. I think sales would rocket if Tata is able to launch a Manza CS QJD aura+ with automatic gearbox at about 7L.
From a styling perspective they should make the manza CS a hatchback like the Octavia / Laura rather than a 'sedan'
