Re: Maruti Suzuki A-Star Auto - Road Test

I am facing an issue with the breaks of A-star AT. The issue occurs random. Mainly when doing stop and go traffic in city. The break becomes stiff and resists to go down. The brakign performance also reduce with some sound coming when breaking.

There is a ABS warning light which come alive random. Mostly it will be active when I am facing the break issue.

I have informed the service centre. But they simply erased the archive warnings and told that they cannot reproduce it. As per them the waning was for a abs sensor. Also they are saying that the break stiffness in slow speed is a common issue in A-star. Did anybody else faced the issue?

My rear brakes have a slight squealing sound especially if the car has been parked for a few days, but no issues with braking performance or stiffness. I had the brake shoes checked, but service center says they'll be fine for some more time so didn't change them.

Also the ABS light started coming on a few months back. Initially when I start the car, it used to be off, but once I reach about 20 kmph, it used to turn on. Now it's permanently on. I got it checked during periodic service - the service center guys told me one of the ABS sensors have conked off but the spare wasn't readily available at MGP. They asked me to remind in advance before the next service and they will replace it during the service. But no issues at all regarding braking performance or stiffness etc for my car. It's just that the ABS doesn't work, but since it's not critical for my low speed city drives, it's ok for me.

For your case, if it's an intermittent ABS issue, cant the service center do a scan and determine which sensor was misbehaving? Might be better to replace that sensor proactively.

Re: Maruti Suzuki A-Star Auto - Road Test

Interesting discovery:

Under the glovebox on the right side of the AC evaporator I noticed a box with the part number: 38880-68K3 made by AISIN AW. Googling the full part number did not bring up any results.

However, Googling "38880" did bring up a few results. This is the TCU of the car.

Quite a surprise ! I am confused now since I thought that the Astar has JATCO JF405E transmission. Does it have AISIN?

Surely a JATCO transmission will not have AISIN TCU !

It is also scary that Googling "38880-68K3" did not bring up any results. Is a repacement not available?
