re: The country's first CAL Look Baywindow Bus Restoration

Hi Anna,

Nice to see all the work taking shape.

Found a nice article about Epoxy, hence taught it might be of some use here.

Good Luck on the project.

Hey Raj, thanks for the link. We are indeed using Epoxy Primer in generous quantity.

I will go with you on that Nilesh

The surface looks clean, but once u tap the hammer, there it starts collapsing / dis-integrating. We cleaned up the interiors of the Kombi, removed all the seats, Now this opens out a BIG LIVING ROOM inside If you have some ideas for the interiors, please start working on its design right now.

Since the setback due to rust issues, the body tapping work has stopped, Will resume body tapping from the coming week.

Sad because of the new rust but exterior is looking really good! Hopefully no more setbacks now

Here is one idea for the interior:

Ok, not the camper interior but I like this pattern:

The tinker has done a quick job on the rusted panels, hopefully we will also complete work on the rear tail light area by weekend, and that should END the tinwork

Nice site. Well, work on the floor is Complete, some more work on the rear being done to adapt the old style tail lights, Body tapping on the RHS also is 95% done. The work on LHS will continue in a days time.

We are concentrating on finishing 100% body work Plus 50% body filler job by end of September. With a plan of Double coats of Epoxy primer ( one before the body filler job + one after the body filler job is done )

Yeah Dave, There are some more good updates on the way

We have done 2 coats of Epoxy primer on the Bus, and covered almost 70% of the surface, should be scraping the interiors by weekend and having the Epoxy primer sprayed there too.

re: The country's first CAL Look Baywindow Bus Restoration

Bodywork on one side has started.

Need to check on the placement of the new Oval Tail lights... Dave's bus pics have a lower placement, So Nilesh, what do u think ? Should we place it a little lower or at the Stock place ?

re: The country's first CAL Look Baywindow Bus Restoration

Nice update Pavan with the rear lights gone
Heres some pics of the different heights and types of split screen rear lights
for different years. even the large round rear lights like mine come in two different positions mine for 60 and the 59 ones which are the same
are mounted about 2 inches higher than mine[Red & Black Samba pic.]
So you do have a choice of positions and lights Keep the good work up Pavan.if you need any measurements let me know.

It's coming up nicely Pavan!! I like Dave's lights and would go for that position if we had those round lights. For the oval lights the stock position looks good to me. Check the red pic Dave posted above. What do you think?

Thanks Dave! Hope we took the right decision with the lights and the look will come off

re: The country's first CAL Look Baywindow Bus Restoration

Hi nilesh,if your going for the oval all red lights,I must warn you that in the UK you wont get a UK MOT,unless its regestered before pre 1962 , My old 62 crewcab only passed with all red lenses as it was early 62.
you can however get some red and amber lenses that are interchangable
so just swop the lenses over before the MOT.The only other problem is iff they are all red lenses they are pretty dangerous as mine only has the one bulb that does Brake lights, indicators and real lights, therefore when all three
are being used its normaly the indicatore that dont show up.,saying that i think yours will have more than one bulb for the rear. I think the lights your going for will look great anyway compared to the toombstones

You are right Dave. I read about MOT issues somewhere. Good then that the bus is not coming to UK I'm planning to keep it in Mumbai with my parents for few years till we eventually return in few years.

The lens we chose is half red and half amber. We loose out with the reverse lamp. We will probably fix it on the bumper.
