Re: Restoration - 1963 Fiat 1100 Super Select

Today I was enroute to Panvel in my Palio when an immaculate Super Select overtook me near Kalamboli.

Wow! Nice car!...Hey! she looks familiar…And have I seen that handsome young gent driving her before? In a few seconds the tubelight sputtered into life and I recognized Karl and this beauty.

That is great restoration Karl, congratulations

Regards,

It is a small world indeed, glad we met.

8th November 2015

Have been using the car on and off through the week, luckily there are no starting troubles, no heating issues, no idling issues etc. So bit the bullet and drove to Pune. She moved perfectly.

The stance of the car has also improved after 200 kms of usage. Its a big relief for me, since she was too tall earlier. Little bits and pieces keep getting completed. The wheels were balanced and aligned (with older style weights, fitted after final painting of the wheels, as advised by the gurus). Luckily the hubcaps haven't flown off as yet

Karl,

The fiat looks much nicer without the sun shade, the chrome work looks better than when these cars left the factory.

Congratulations are in order for a very tasteful restoration.

To be honest I would have loved to have kept the sunshade, if I find one that fits correctly I will revisit.

Maybe some credit to Viveck for the chrome?

Karl,

Your steed looks hawwt! Too good, truly! So glad that you have a beautifully detailed car that you're driving regularly. Great restoration.

Thank you, I'm very happy with the outcome, though still plenty to be finished, most importantly the interior. I really don't know how we will tackle it.

So tweety bird tells me that the radiators should indeed be painted black. Will correct it eventually. Ditto for the air cleaner colour (currently Padmini colour).

The old white plate has two neat brackets to easily clip on for regular use.

lovely! But if I might ask, why's the bootlid badge not fitted yet? Didn't it have one when bought?

When patching the boot the original holes were lost - need to see original reference first. Another learning for me.

Re: Restoration - 1963 Fiat 1100 Super Select

Karlosdeville, thank you for sharing the journey of this restoration. It has been a pleasure to read. Your eye for detail and perseverance are to be complimented. I would have given up half way! Thank you for restoring the old girl to the original colour - it sits well with the car and its period. Retaining the original original seat covers was the right choice. When I saw the cover it brought back memories of what seats used to be like. IGP Modak must be smiling from up above. Happy motoring. - Narayan

Re: Restoration - 1963 Fiat 1100 Super Select

An update. Last month we completed a very enjoyable road trip across Gujarat and a couple of days in Rajasthan. In total just over 2000kms spread across 8 days. The roads were great, the weather was cool, and the car performed perfectly. The only issue I faced was the very cold starts in the early morning - and I do mean very cold! By and large cruising between 75 and 80, and overall fuel consumption was 13.2. In total I topped up about 200 or 300ml of oil, and even less water.

Here are some images from the trip, especially with the picturesque backdrops of Gondal and Baroda.
