Re: My Mercedes W126 500 SEL restoration

Very encouraging indeed!

The 126 is one of my favorite S class. But he crown always will go to 116, the first car to get the S designation. They said 'it was the best Mercedes Benz ever built'.

Can you please throw some light on the parts you used and from where and how you acquired them?

My personal dream is to own a w123 and restore it with my own hands. Total TLC

Thanks

As far as I know, the first "S" designated for W180 models as 220S available from 1956. But if you look up in Wiki about the "S" class, it starts with the W116. Anyway, W111 and W 108 also had excellent "S" class models. If you were to ask MB, perhaps even they will be confused about the "S" designation. "S" from W116 onwards may have had a different inference to "S" on the models before that.
My favoutite "S" is the W108, 280S, an excellent machine.

Cheers harit

Harit,

I think you are right in your own way when the w108 were designated the S as the "SonderKlasse" However MB officially only started the S nomenclature with the W116.

The E class as we know it today was earlier called the 300 series/class, if I am correct? and the C class as we know today were earlier called the 190 series/class?

Re: My Mercedes W126 500 SEL restoration

Hello!

I am in Mysore wish to purchase a W126 myself and have met one seller. The car needs some body work and a whole lot of electrical work. Some of the cladding on the right rear door is damaged too. May I ask where you are based and if you will you be able to restore it? Could we talk on the phone? Awaiting your early response. Thank you.
