I cant quite figure out why he got such a paintwork done on several cars of his anyways!

Couldd it be to make them look less attractive, fearing theft?

1949 Cadillac.
Karlos perhaps you could help verify but this car seems to be a 1948 Caddy. I remember noticing that the 1949 side lights extended back onto the fenders unlike the 48's. The biggest difference however was under the bonnet. The Caddies got a new OHV powerplant. 48 was the last of the side valve engines

...which is why I specified Im putting up model names based solely on the plate in front of the car. There is definitely a possibility of some model years being incorrect. A quick google should clear things up.

How many bikes are there on display Karl. there were a total of around 50 bikes with him. Harley davidsons ( with and without sidecar) and indians (with and without sidecar) and a whole lot of others that used to be stacked one on top of the other. i remeber this so clearly cause after seeing the bikes and carriages i had asked for the indian chief.

I agree that most of the cars displayed here are not in the best condition. The paint job, the chrome (some of them maybe painted grey) and tyres on many cars do not look original.
But you have to give it to this man who has collected / purchased these cars from all the Maharajah's and has retained them. If these cars were still under their possession, they may have rotted or been exported.

When I first saw Pranlal Bhogilal's vintage Rolls Royce at an Auto Expo, it was in a sad condition. The cars owned by other Mumbai-based collectors were in much better condition than this. I used to wonder why a person like Pranlal Bhogilal couldnt have his cars painted / chromed with the best quality. But at that time I did not know that his collection was so huge. And now the quality of the works do not matter as much as the fact that these cars still survive.

I can agree with the bit about not getting wiped from memory, but made more practical- in what sense??
