Do you wear a Balaclava? That helps a lot.

2. I see many guys going for plain visors so that they can use them at night. Due to this they ride with shades during the (hot) day.
I feel even the plain visors can't be used at night once they are old as invariably they get scratched, whatever the manufacturers claim. What do you guys have to say?[/quote]

What is your budget? Depending on the helmet you get you can switch visors easily enough. Also the Helmet you buy will depend on your budget. SparX is pretty good and is available for around 5-6 grand. Then there are others such as HJC,KBC,AGV that can be had in the 8000-20,000 range. There are cheaper ones as well. In the 2000-3000 range such as LS2's. It all depends on your Budget!

cheers!

Been reading this thread and I shall be going for a Sparx or an SOL. LS2 is also under consideration but it doesn't look like there are encouraging reviews about LS2 helmets here.

About the Visor availability, GPR Visors are still available till date, considering I bought my current helmet back in 2006, that's great! :)

Anyway, my question was why do most people prefer plain visors considering they anyway can't be used after dark owing to scratches within a short time span!

Plain visors offer excellent and clear visibility in daylight as well as after sundown. But it takes a lot of effort and care to keep them as good as new.

I bought my SparX helmet 3 yrs back and i regularly and diligently clean the visors and helmet with a lot of care. I am yet to buy a replacement visor ;)

How do you clean it? Any difference between cleaning at home and on tour?

Thanks

Well I generally either wash my visor in running water and let it dry, or use Colin and a soft cloth. Any better ways to clean?

Any suggestions on where I can get the helmet shield for a Sparx helmet changed in Bangalore.
The current shield is tinted & is a bit difficult to use at nights(which comprises half the ride time for me).

The helmet model is FF-357 or S-07 LE Good vs.Evil - As seen here

Tried looking for a compatible visor on motosport, but didn't find one.

I am also worried whether it'll be a DIY affair, or would need a specialist to change the visor.

EDIT : Found on revzilla - http://www.revzilla.com/product/sparx-s07-face-shield

You can get one from thirumala pit stop across from langford ktm. Incidentally I searched high and low for that particular helmet but couldnt find it.

P.S any clue where can I pick up a tinted visor?

The helmet is actually my brother's. He ordered it from Revzilla I think.

I found Dark Smoke,Mirrored Silver, & Clear, all three shields on revzilla. Link in my earlier post.

Dark Smoke, & Clear shields on Motosport - http://www.motosport.com/IN/motorcyc...-HELMET-SHIELD

Will check out Thirumala & compare prices.

The street prices for sparx is 5.5 grand. The shields are around 800 bucks. Which is why I didnt order the helmet online.

I use plain water and dry it with a microfiber cloth. I also ensure the visor is wrapped with cling film when stored away (i have a dark visor in addition to the clear visor) so it is protected from scratches.

When you are not wearing the helmet and are carrying it around, it would help to use a helmet bag (most LS2's are sold with a bag) to protect it from bumps and scratches.

This is the best way. Infact my Arai manual recommends the same!

No visor Will have anti glare treatment. You get tinted glasses but they are useless at night. Try to maintain the visor scratch free by using a glass cleaner liquid and a microfiber cloth. Keeping your visor scratch free is the only way you can prevent glare.

What about the helmets with switchable tints ?

Hi astrono_me,

would you please update your review for this mod on your helmet, I too am looking for a similar solution and would like to know your long term review and recommendation is any.

Also these headphone act more like mini speakers if what i understand as per your DYI, please elaborate on the same.

Regards,
Jimit

Extremely late on this one, but just incase you or anyone else is still seeking feedback on the AGV K4:

I bought one from UK exactly a year ago for my wife, and it runs pretty much as per the sizing chart. The quality of liner and overall finish is acceptable, the build quality is definitely up there like the top league AGV lids.
She has only used it 3, or maybe 4 times in the past one year so I cannot give you much feedback on ventilation or wind noise also because she has never been in a helmet before.

My only grouse with the K4 is the absence of a Double D ring lock, which IMHO should be the standard for anything coming out of AGV considering even the entry level HJC is Double D equipped.

Please invest in a good full face helmet and a crash jacket.
Knee protectors and good shoes are also highly recommended.

I would also advice getting your eyes tested.

Have fun.

If planning to ride with your better half, please get riding gear for her as well.

Imran,

i was contemplating picking up a Vega or AGV lid- are these good options.? any other helmets i should consider?

My eyes are in good nick.....am turning 40 not 80:D

Most rides will be solo....
