Hyderabad to Nagpur to Betul to Harda to Indore is the best route. The Harda to Indore is half good and half in bad condition might take you 5-6 hours for 150 kms. My suggestion take a halt near Nagpur and then continue next morning to Indore.

Any idea about budget hotels in Nagpur for a single person to crash for the night?

Safety wise there must not be any problem. I donot have any idea about budget hotels in Nagpur. I reside in Indore, let me know if you need any help in Indore.

I took the Hyd-Nagpur-Betul-Harda-Indore route.

Day 1: Hyd-Nagpur
It took me 8 hours to cover 500 kms. The roads beyond Adilabad are not so good until Hingaghat.

Day 2: Nagpur-Indore
Took me 10 hours to cover 450 kms. Nagpur to Betul is very good. You will enjoy the view at Sausar.
Betul to Harda is okay. Though the roads are good, they are undivided. You will find a lot of local traffic. After Pathakheda, there are a lot of ghat sections. The road in this patch is bad but you will enjoy the winding roads surrounded by the dense forests. My average speed till this section was 50 kmph.

Cross Harda and the nightmare starts. After Khategaon, the roads have disappeared. Took me close to 3 hrs (will take an hour more if you decide to drive slowly and carefully) to cross a 80 km continuous patch of washed out road filled with mud, boulders and moon craters across the whole width of the road. Got ample opportunities to test the GC of my WagonR; passed some failed some. Even a Scorpio and a Bolero were finding it difficult to overtake me and tailed me for a good 20 odd kms.

Bhopal to betul is not good as per the last update I received, however security wise there are no concerns.

From Bhopal you must take Bhopal to Vidisha to Sagar to Damoh to Jabalpur.

Need some suggestions for Nagpur - Indore route. I would be driving from Hyderabad and I assume Hyderabad - Nagpur would be good except for 50 kms patch in between. I will be driving a WagonR.

1. Which route should I take from Nagpur - Indore?

2. I took the Betul - Harda - Indore route in September last year. It was a nightmare. I came back via Indore - Bhopal - Betul and it was pretty good.

3. Based on the route suggestions you give, will there be any security concerns on that route? Day only driving or night driving is also acceptable?

Edit: I got some info that Hyderabad - Yavatmal - Khandwa - Indore route is an option. Any idea on this?

If you are coming via Nagpur then : Hyd to Nagpur to Betul to Ashapur to Khandwa to Indore is the best route.

Betul to Ashapur is a hilly road and you will find no facilities in this stretch & traffic is close to nil, so best done in day time, although I have done this route in night (between 1 to 5 am). Security wise there is no problem.

Touching Nagpur is not a necessity for me if there are better alternatives. Again, covering extra distance is also not a problem if the route is better. Given these 2 points, would you still suggest the above route?

Regarding night driving, I can either start early (5-6 am) and drive till 9-10 pm to reach Indore. Or I could start leisurely around 9 and stop somewhere in between to resume the next day (where should I stop?). Since I have a lot of time on the first day, I want to cover the maximum distance.

Take a halt at Nagpur. I think, it will take you 10-12 Hours of relaxed driving to reach Nagpur. Yavtmal route you are suggesting, I took it long way back, most of it is 2 Lane, hence driving fatigue will be more.

If you are 2 drivers then you can cover Hyd-Indore nonstop.

Back in Sep '17, Nagpur took me about 8 hours with relaxed driving, alone. I encountered pretty bad rains which slowed me down. I started at 1PM and reached by 9. I think it can still be done in 8 hrs if the roads are as good as it was back then. Start by 8-9AM and reach by 4-5PM.

I will be driving alone. I feel I can cover 200 kms further on the first day itself. This will ensure I will reach Indore early on 2nd day. Hey merc. I am in omkareshwar at the moment. What is the best route down to hyderabad from here? On a motorcycle. Thanks in advance! Route via nagpur says 900+kms 17 hours.
