While returning we came through Bhadrachalam with stopover for temple and local visit.
The route was - Maredumilli -> Bhadrachalam -> Kothagudem -> Tallada -> Khammam -> Suryapet -> Hyd.
Hi
Could you provide a time taken for both the routes. ie Hyd to Maredumilli via Rajahmundry & Maredumilli to Hyd via Bhadrachalam.

Hey,

The time for us came out about same either way:

(A) Hyd -> Rajahmundry -> Maredumilli: (~565kms): 10hrs
(B) Maredumilli -> B'chalam -> Hyd: (~460kms): 9.5hrs

with one hour food/tea breaks either way.

We did lose some time (30/45mins) in R'mundry while figuring out way towards Maredumilli (our GPS was directing through a worse route).

Roads were decent enough through Bhadrachalam side also as I mentioned, but the drive through Vijaywada/Rajahmundry is mostly four laned (and tolled ) so more peaceful.

Hi folks,

Would it be advisable/reasonable to make a trip to Bhadrachalam/Papikondalu at this point of time - in next couple of weekends??
A couple of relatives got interested after our last trip, but I am not sure of conditions these days ... what with Godavari over-flowing, T-AP showdowns, etc.

Let me know if anyone would have any insight.

With Godavari in spate, Papikondalu is not a good idea till rainy season ends.

You would need to take a boat as well as backup just in case the car cannot make it

Stay away till the monsoons get over.

Hi Deepv,
Pls don't even think of that now.
The flood in Bhadrachalam has receded only today, from 3rd warning to 1st warning of 40ft deep.
Ideal time is in Nov~Dec for a wonderful experience.
I was bought up in Bhadrachalam.
Let me know if you need anything else.

regards,
Maverick79.

Thanks for your suggestions/warnings .. Maverick79, Ranjitp1 & Bajaj Sa'b.

Like I mentioned I was also wondering about similar issues, but good to get strong reinforcements. Will have to plan this some time later in the year.

re: Hyderabad - Badrachalam : Route Queries

Hi,

I plan to go for a weekend drive to Bhadrachalam on September 7th from Hyderabad (LB Nagar). Please suggest if I should take the warangal road or the Suryapet khammam road.

How is the road condition?

Also, please suggest if we can get accommodation easily for four. Other than APTDC, are there any options?

I will start early in the morning. What will the be ideal place for breakfast break?

Regards,
Sri Harsha.

Hotel Ratan is a decent option apart from APTDC. Right opposite to the busstand - and they have probably the only good restaurant in town!

Harsha, I had done B'chalam to Hyd in Jan through Khammam & Suryapet. Almost half of this route (till Suryapet) is on Hyd -> Vijaywada highway, which is anyway six-laned and tolled, so should not have any issues. For other half, the road conditions were decent at that time, not sure if rains might have caused damages. However, this route should be preferable w.r.t. Warangal in my opinion.

re: Hyderabad - Badrachalam : Route Queries

Hi Guys, I am planning for a drive to Bhadrachalam. Can someone who did this recently comment on the road conditions? Hows the Hyd-Suryapet-Khammam compared to the Warangal highway route?
Also, I am planning to book Hotel Sri Sudharsana Residency through cleartrip. Anyone got info about this (I read good reviews about it in tripadvisor though).

re: Hyderabad - Badrachalam : Route Queries

hi... I did this route in September and most of the road was really good except for about 60kms from suryapet till We enter khammam district.... that's not too bad but smaller for the traffic.... all the more because you would just have covered a beautiful Vijayawada highway

I don't know about the hotel you mentioned but aptdc hotel is really neat and well maintained

regards
Sri Harsha

re: Hyderabad - Badrachalam : Route Queries

Hi,
I had done the Hyderabad - Suryapet - Badrachalam exactly one year back, and stayed in the Sri Sudharsana Residency hotel. It is just 2 mins walk from the temple and very decent. I was happy with the stay. Remember to carry blankets / wollens as they did not provide me last year. Car parking is not a problem. There is small ground between the hotel and the temple where we can park the car.

Have a good trip,
Karthik Iyer

Also, Pls try the Sita Nilayam. I paid some 450 bucks for a good and spacious A/C Room( Suite kind of - with two rooms + two toilets). Really worth it. This was a year ago though.
But for Food, you need to go out. There is an attached mess beside, serving meals. Decent enough meal. Typical Andhra Bhojanam.
Temple is walkable from here. Hardly 5 mins.

Regards,
Maverick79.
