Saw them checking numbers and stopping one vehicle.
On the way back we noticed 2 interceptors. As you said, both cases only the interceptor with a single cop manning it. Both were after the first toll towards Bangalore. In one case they had erected barricades to slow down vehicles a few kilometers ahead and in the second case, closer to Ramnagara, they were standing and waving down at a stretch which was naturally slow.

Did not see any towards Mysore but that was prior to 9 am so perhaps too early for them.

Indeed quite ironic. But it looks like the interceptor mamas need their pockets to get heavier. IIRC there is only one speed camera placed in the return direction which has lane based speed limits between Maddur Bangalore. Havent gone further recently so on the onward side there are no speed cameras until Maddur. As you say they can just switch to e Challans completely and scrap those interceptors, since they are anyway old Tata wingers which would be rusting away to glory

re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Had been to Kasaragod and on the return took Madikeri - Mysore - Bangalore route. Entered highway at Manipal Hospital at 10:00 pm

The exit before Srirangapatna (Ganaguru) toll to the service road is blocked with concrete blocks now and the entry to highway is made single lane by placing the concrete blocks and cops were present.

So if one does not exit the highway at Siddalingapura but continues to drive on the highway means he has to pay the toll and no way he can exit!

All exit and entry were manned by the cops yesterday. Not sure if this is an everyday affair during day and night or was it only for yesterday.

Saw around 10 vehicles convoy waiting at Mandya district limits which indicated that there was some VIP movement.

However the Bidadi industrial area exit is not closed and could see many vehicles taking the exit here to continue on service road and escape the Bidadi toll booth.

Saw only one KL registered two wheeler between Maddur and Mandya and not sure how did he miss the cops.

Lane discipline is still missing and saw many cars overtaking from the left. All 120 KMPH boards are removed. Lane wise speed limit is mentioned on the bridges.

Saw around 10 trucks who were stuck to left lane which was a surprise.

Drove to Mysore and back for the first time on expressway after two wheelers and three wheelers got banned. One can comfortably sit at the speed limit all through the journey, the traffic was sparse with rain at a few patches. A round trip to Mysore and back had never been this easy and effortless.

Amazing project this!

re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

I drove on the expressway for a trip to Calicut and back last weekend and had a pleasant experience. It took me around 1.15 hours. I noticed a few autorickshaws, tractors (brand new ones being transported), and a superbike on the road. Although there's a lack of lane discipline, as others mentioned, I personally found it to be better than usual. I was able to maintain a consistent speed throughout, and I finally got the chance to use cruise control effectively. I only had to intervene a few times.

The toll rates are a bit higher than usual, but my average speed was better while driving within the speed limits, and I was able to extract ~17.5kmpl fuel efficiency, which balanced out the toll cost. I normally get only ~15kmpl on highways.

Case of absolute confusion. Now they are mulling increasing speed limit. While the current advisory of 80kmph on middle lane is a bit low in my opinion, hopefully, they wouldn't make it 120 or so. Proposal of enforcing truck lanes is a very welcome move!

Good Move. They don't need to have a fixed speed limit all across. It is quite clear that there are sections where the speed can be up to 120 and several sections where it can be 100 or even 80. For example, in most of the greenfield sections- Primarily the bypasses and the elevated sections, in my view the limit can be 120. In the other sections it can be 100. Of course there will be specific grey/black spot areas where it needs to be lower(like the Bidadi bridge) which can be indicated.

re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

On my last travel to Kerala took the Mysore-Bangalore highway and saw cops with speed cameras on the road side. There were barricades few kms later were they were stopping the violators. I am not sure if they check for 100kmph on all lanes or they also check the speeds limit particular to each lane.

Also i saw cops stopping bike riders on some of the exits.

re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Enroute to Coorg, I had an unfortunate incident yesterday while traveling on this expressway. Right at the bend of Empire/Kamat building, I spotted a chopped up block of concrete. I thought of going around it, but I was in the right most lane doing the allowed 100kmph and there was a Fortuner maybe at 150-160kmph about to overtake me from the middle lane. And there was a slow moving truck on the extreme left.

Moving to left could have been catastrophic for two cars, and maybe a truck, so I slowed as much as I could but had no option to go over it.

It demolished the engine guard of my Honda City. Connected with SA at Inspire Honda, Dinesh who guided me through this ordeal. And I somehow made it to their service station and the car was promptly fixed in under 2 hours.

Thank god it wasn't a full concrete block. And what the hell is a person supposed to do even when you stick to prescribed speeds. If that Fortuner was not charging at that speed, I could have moved to the middle lane and avoided all this.

Phew!

PS: Told the highway patrol about the location of this piece of concrete block. Hope they removed it.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. Glad that there was no serious damage to engine and the car and good to know that it was fixed quickly.

Kindly refer to the part I have highlighted in your post. I don't mean to be critical, but the legal speed limit on our roads/highways is a speed that one should NOT exceed. There is no compulsion that one has to drive AT THAT speed. One is expected to drive at a safe speed at or below speed limit given the traffic and road conditions at that point in time.
This is something that many people including TBHPians don't get.
Next time, please drive at a speed where you will have enough time to react to unexpected things/events like the one you encountered (our roads are full of such surprises). Good luck and Godspeed.

Yes, even I saw cops with speed guns some 10 kms before bidadi. This was on 13th Sept, Wednesday. Bad part is they were at a sloping road where most of the vehicles pickup speed due to slope and momentum. Since I had a meeting to attend, I was driving in a spirited manner. Touching 120s sometimes. I'm sure I was going at 110+ when I saw the cops with speed gun. Immediately lifted foot off the throttle. Was expecting cops in the next barricade and was mentally prepared to pay fine or try to convince them about the slope location. I was right- There were cops with barricades after 3 kms and I saw a cop waving his stick to pull aside. I flashed the lights saying I understood his ask and put left indicators and was pulling to side. Dont know what cop thought, he gestured me to carry on.

I could see they had list of car numbers to stop and they were getting these inputs from the speed gun guys. Still I'm expecting a traffic challan anytime soon. KA govt has to generate money to fulfill all the schemes they have launched to help the poor .

I was also stopped after mandya by RTO to check papers. Watsted 15 mins there due to many cars being stopped by them.

Also, they have blocked entry from service road to highway all the was till before mandya if one is traveling from mysore to b'lore.

Between, my 12 yr old figo drove like a champ without skipping a beat. Except for AC acting up, it was nice cruising on the highway.

Used the Mysore Super Highway today.
Left home at 0520.
Used NICE Road. All good. Exited at the Mysore exit and hopped on to the highway. We were parked at Swad Restaurant at 0719. A nice brekky halt for 30 min. Today we used the little Mini hence kept to 100kmph in the right lane. Largely everyone including the lorries and vans and all were following lane discipline. Im happy to see that there is a small change in driving habits as far as this lane discipline piece in concerned.
Took a coffee break at Mavanalla for another 30 min.
Driving up the hills there were the usual sightseers and selfie artists parked on the left all along. But was able to make very good time up the hill.
Reached my destination 11am sharp.

re: Bangalore - Mysore Expressway Thread

Used the Tollway again today. Uneventful. Slowly I am actually seeing better lane and speed limit discipline across vehicle types. But there are some people who seem to be educated professionals who apparently don’t know anything about Fastag. They cause useless delays which is irritating to those behind them. And the worst is that they are totally unapologetic.

The NICE Road had a 7-9 minute red delay on account of concreting work. And as usual that road is a video game of lane changing tactics. But overall uneventful.

Usual 5 and a half hours to 6 hours from Ooty to Bangalore. But a heads up to all, the Gudalur route is having a lot of work being done and there are lots of bottlenecks and poor surfaces. But the good thing is that most people are patient and follow lane discipline there too.

Is the i20 in the picture whom you are accusing of? And what did he do for his car picture to be court martialed here? Does it make sense to expose the vehicle details for seemingly a silly issue?

He had No fastag/ blacklisted fastag. Surprising for a Private Car driven by a seemingly educated person, but one who also seems free of common-sense.
Made everyone wait by taking a long time to find and pay cash. And after that, not even an iota of contrition.
It is purely a matter of opinion whether it makes sense to put his car pic there. I think it is fine to poke at the fellow a bit. You may not.
