Yercaud is near Salem. Not sure abt the distance.

Another one dayer is Yelagiri Hills. Nothing much to do there.. . THis is near Jolarpet. I guess this should be around 200kms from chennai.

Yercaud would be like 330kms from Chennai. Unless you happen to drive the Shinkansen, there is no way it is going to be a one-dayer. Takes at the minimum 6 hours from Chennai to the top in a car.

Yelagiri could be a one-dayer - only 180kms one way plus a sexy road.

Another nice one dayer is Vedanthangal. Take the right on GST Road after Chengalpattu but, before Maduranthagam. Breakfast at the highway motel immediately after Chengalpattu may be a good idea. This is a nice bird sanctury at a large lake. No convinient hotels around so, you may want to carry lunch. Have a good nap after lunch and drive back with a pitstop at Sanggetha, Vandalur. Less than 100 kms one way. The stretch on right of GST road is 12 kms. Neatly laid narrow road. Night vists are not allowed by the forest department.

This year I did a road trip to Maanjolai at Tirunelvelli Dist. This is an unexplored hillstation. It is known for Tea Estates. Route is Chennai - Trichy - Madurai - Tirunelveli - Manimutharu - Maanjolai. You require permission from Tirunelveli forest department to enter the reserve forest. No hotels to stay so need to book guest house of Forest, EB or PWD guest houses or you must have a frient there. Places to visit are Manimutharu waterfalls enroute, couple of dams at Maanjolai, Kudiraivetti view point, tea estates. Road from Manimutharu is a hill road with hairpin bends. There is a 18 hole natural golf court on the way. Dindivanam - Kanyakumari 4 lane work in progress so may be try it after that. Alternatively, you can skip pieces of that route. Villupuram and Ulundurpet can be skipped through Vadalur route joining just before Perambalur junction on GST. Virudhunagar till Tirunelvelli can be skipped by taking state highway through Rajapalayam, Sankarankoil, Ambasamudram, Manimutharu.
It requires a good two day enjoy Maanjolai.

Guys, Hi..

Well..every city has its won charm of getaways..

Agreed the weather in Bangalore is more polluted..but the beer better.. etc etc.. Lets not start a war on which city is better or has more attractions..

People who've been in Chennai know the getaways..and also how to do it in a day or two..

Hello There,

Last week I did trip to Mettupalayam from Chennai.

Route: Chennai-Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri-Mettur-Andhiyur-Gobi-Sathyamangalam-Mettupalayam

The distance was 540Kms. Except 50 ~ 75 Kms rest of the route was fantastic and drivers paradise.

Consolidating the 3 day drives\rides:
  1. Ooty
  2. Kodaikanal
  3. Chikmagalur hill station
  4. Dhanushkodi
  5. Kumbakonam
  6. Horsley Hills
  7. Mettupalayam
Have I missed out on any?

Dosent Kerala qualify as a 3 day ride? Or is it too far for that?
