You might wanna re-consider making that statement keeping in mind the condition of the roads in the west coast .

That's actually a great decision, man. The lesser in Chennai, the better. Care to drag some of your friends also along ?

Roads turned out to be a big turnoff! Can't we have it all in one place?

Chennai Bhpians - Any more getaways from Chennai?

Especially the unexplored ones??

It will be nice if we collate them all here, will be of great use especially when the work gets too much.

Our resident tourers can help us out too!!

Yelagiri is a nice place for a 2 day trip. Its ~200km from chennai on the chennai-banglore NH. Route is chennai-vellore-yelagiri and the road is excellant. 4 hours drive from chennai. Its a small hill station .

Have I missed out on any?

Dosent Kerala qualify as a 3 day ride? Or is it too far for that?
3 days would be bit tight as we spend almost two days in driving and could spend only one day at the spot (Ooty/Kodai/Chikmagalur/Dhanushkodi). May be enjoyable from the drivers point of view, but for the others

there are lots of places that are about 4 hrs from blore into karnataka. that will make good destinations.
Mysore is about an 8 hrs drive, from there places like the mudumalai, etc.

Tanjore is a good place .. probably good enough for a 1.5 days trip. The temple at Tanjore is worth a visit esp when they switch on the lights.

Pulicat Lake - North Madras is worth to visit.

Pulicat Lake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I had been there once during my last trip to Madras. Also it's very convinient for those who live in Anna Nagar / Northern Areas.

A very pleasant and peaceful drive through GQ (NH 5) . If I remember correctly , we need to take a right turn at Gummidipundi. Around 55 KM's from Padi Junction.

The hilly areas of Tada and the waterfalls after rains are also good. Again you'd have to go west from NH5 once you reach the Tada town.

Guys, were planning a day trip. The options we have are

Tada falls and Pulicat lake - heard that there is lots of water in Tada falls, can someone confirm? Pulicat lake is nothing great, I've been there. In Tada, is there a safe place to park a car?
Maipadu Beach, Nellore - how is this place? Any reviews?
Gingee fort - looks nice. Will there be any problem entering the fort?

Any other place within 200km from Chennai? I've been to Pondy and Mahabs.

I will answer about Gingee. If you leave early you can club the fort visit Tiruvannamalai temple. Since you need climb up for both the forts I suggest you reach before the sun becomes blazing. Mjothi had done a great report on these two places a couple of months ago. What many don't know is this is a Maratha fort deep down south. Worth a visit if hiking is not an issue. Its about 40 kilometres from the NH45 turnoff

Proxima,

You can try out Yelagiri, which is about 220 Kms from Chennai or Horsley Hills ( around 250 Kms).
