Guys,

I'm planning on a trip to Kollam from Bangalore and thinking of taking the route shown below.

Any comments suggestions on the road conditions/alternate routes would be great.

Hi Everyone,

My first post in teambhp, so please guide me if I am not following some of the guidelines. I am travelling from trivandrum to marathalli, bangalore on 11th November. Am planning to use the Nagercoil Madurai route. Some days before a user had posted all the hotels available on the route, am unable to find it.Would be great help if somebody could lead me to itplease:. Also if I start at 4 AM if i keep speeds of 100-110 kmph how much time would it take for the journey. Thank you

I think you would have already started from Trivandrum. A 4 AM start from Trivandrum means, you will take around 11-12 hours to reach bangalore. But again it depends on the Salem traffic and traffic at Krishnagiri/Attibele toll.

Here are few hotels,

Hari's Restaurant, just before the toll on the Madurai bypass.
Temple City, after Madurai bypass, this comes on the right side.

For lunch you can target A2B, Thoppur. This is 2Kms after Thoppur and comes along with a BP (COCO).

Sri Saravana Bhavan, Krishnagiri.

Apart from this there are many other options as well.

I had posted this long ago. Some new places have come up now but this would still be helpful.

Have you traveled already ? The route you mentioned through Nagercoil , Tirunelvelli , Salem is the best one.

Anyone have any idea how much for the toll booths one way ?

Total 11 tolls(Excluding NICE/EC toll).
Total amount comes to around 700.(This is for the Nagercoil route)

Yes , I guess you are right. Few years back when I travelled this route to chennai it used to come close to 1,000 Rs in toll booths.

Why can't they just reduce the number of toll booths to 4 or 5 and get the added money from these booths. It feels very inconvenient each time we pick up speed and suddenly a toll booth shows up :Frustrati where we have to slow down and start over again.

It's a major cash cow for TN it seems. Around 5 toll booths between Salem and Hosur. For some 150 odd kms.

We have only 3 toll plazas as of now (Krishnagiri, Thoppur, Omalur). Did you see any upcoming toll plaza enroute.

Here is the toll details from Bangalore to Nagercoil/Kanyakumari/Trivandrum,as on November 10th, 2015.

Yes, I left Trivandrum around 4 45 AM, being a holiday(diwali) traffic was sparse so was able to reach silk board by 1 45 PM. Took the stretch till nagercoil cautiously( reached by 6 15 AM), after that the road was excellent.Stopped for breakfast after madurai on the right side. Next journey is tomorrow Bangalore - Mumbai :)

Nine hours is really quick for a Trivandrum - Bangalore drive:thumbs up. Yes, even on 10th the traffic was almost Nil due to diwali.

Have a safe and fun filled drive to Mumbai:thumbs up

We tried Selvi Mess for the first time in Salem. This is at a junction that separates Chennai exit and Madurai exit from the Salem byepass.

While going from bangalore, to take the Madurai/Namakkal exit we normally take a right on the flyover at this junction. To reach sevi mess, we should avoid this right and go straight. Immediately at the end of the flyover, take "U" turn and you can find Selvi mess on the left side.

This is a chain of hotel in Salem and they serve some very good Non-Veg food.

It has a good parking space as well.

I think this is not there anymore. Along with that IOC, I saw a CCD and Hotel Sangeetha.

During an earlier trip I bumped into someone I know at the Raja Bhojanam and he had mentioned that the place will soon be closed down and a Sangeetha hotel will be coming up - earlier post here.

EDIT:Yes, it is Hotel Sangeetha now, @arun_josie has confirmed in his post above.
