Hi and thanks a lot for your reply.
She is my daughter.
I read somewhere about the ashram guest houses.
Any idea about them
Just now called up Atithi. They are 12 km away from Auroville.
She wants to stay within walking distance of auroville.Any places you know of?
I would prefer she goes by bus. That would be safer.
Will advise her to go via Thindivanam in case she takes a cab.
Thanks once again and regards |
The guest house details can be obtained at
http://www.aurovilleguesthouses.org
The guest houses are in various categories. Search for the top ones like
afsanah guest house
gaia's garden guest house.
http://www.gaias-garden.com
The rates are very reasonable . I had enquired about it once but have not stayed there and do not have any personal experience.
I checked the bus details again. There are only 2-3 buses which may be practically possible for her to take
Assume she takes an early morning flight and reaches by 9am then the following buses may be booked
1. 10.30 am Rathimeena - Non A/C but takes 6 hours.
2. 1.50 PM/ 2.55 PM Universal Travels - Takes around 4 hours.
Other buses either start or reach at odd times since they are long distance buses.
Am sure from the bus stand to Auroville the auto guys will charge a bomb. Check out with the guest house if something can be arranged.

Faustus Sir apologies for the late reply. I am quoting my friend. Please let me know if she requires any additional information, maybe your daughter can get in touch with my friend who being a lady has traveled to Pondicherry and Auroville multiple times.
"Travel: Airport to Pondicherry bus stop (Take an auto)
From the bus stop (Madhya Kailash is the one I know of) to Pondy: Local bus Rs. 55- 95. (Quite safe) You don't have to worry about booking a luxury bus.
From the Pondicherry bus stop take an auto to the hotel.
Now, I suggest she stay at the Ashram guest house. They are both safe and reasonable. A room costs anywhere between Rs.200- Rs.500. I paid Rs. 250 for a basic room with two single beds.
They also provide lunch, dinner and breakfast at the ashram. The coupon costs an additional Rs.20 for all meals.
There are a number of guest houses to choose from. Look it up online and book a room. The International Guest House, teh New Guest House and The Park Guest House are the one I know of. The second one has an in-house canteen with lovely home-cooked food.
Food-wise, there is a lot to explore in Pondy. I suggest she rent a bicycle and explore on her own. A bicycle will cost you Rs.50- 100 a day. Everything is close by, so walking is also a good option. For longer distances, you can take the auto. They cost anywhere between Rs.30 - 60.
Things to do: visit the ashram, street shopping, Boutique visits, cafes, beach, ashram shops.
To go to Auroville for a day, she can take an auto and ask him to her there for a hew hours. The trip should cost between Rs.400 - 500.
Feel free to inform me for any other help or assistance"

In Dharmasthala you'll find lot of places to stay which are affiliated to the temple authorities. There is one near the new bus stand (forgot its name), try that, it is new and very clean. Infact, most of them are clean in Dharmasthala. The price / room / night is around 100 bucks.
IIRC, none of these places offer advanced booking or anything of that unless you have a good recommendation letter from anyone of the big shot working in government
Apart from these, i dont think there are any private hotels in Dharmasthala.
Cheers,

Planning to visit Dharmasthala this Sunday.
Can I be more or less assured that I'll get some accomodation on reaching Dharmasthala ?
I'm a bit concerned as I'm travelling with 2 kids , and if I don't find anything on reaching Dharmasthala it will be a problem.

Visited Dharmsathala over the weekend. Temple accomodation was available - we got a double room in the Saketha guest house but the rest rooms were common. They were very well maintained though. Rs 70/- for a 1 day stay.
The other guest houses like rajathadri having better rooms were fully booked.

Park Rajdhani is the place for you.
Good hotel, great restaurant and ample parking space within its compound.
I use to stay at Mayura Rajdhani before and have moved to this place recently.
Waseem.
Has any one got any experience or feedback about Hotel Salem South Gate?
Here is the
link
I am planning for a night halt in Salem, with family, on our way to Poovar.
I have already stayed at Cenney's Gateway and Devi Towers (right opposite to Cenney's) on earlier occassions and am planning to explore new options.
The location seems to be ideal - at the junction of NH-7 and Ulundurpettai H'way.
Any feedback will be helpful.

Thanks Ranjit for the info. But this one seems to be on the Salem - Coimbatore Road (as per their website and also google maps) and about 45 km beyond Salem. Whereas I am planning to take the Salem - Madurai - Kanyakumari NH-7 route. That's why I was looking for new places in and around Salem city only.
