Called up Khurana Travels at Akola and asked them about the road condition from Akola to Washim. The person on the other side mentioned that the road is a straight one and a good road. The bus takes around 1 1/2 hours to cover the distance.

After all map hunting, this seems to be the best option to take.

Here are the pictures with google maps which will describe the routes I am planning to take. Would give a more clear perspective of the drive.

I guess "FUEGO" is going to be the 1st Vista on TEAMBHP to take on Rajasthan. Any other Vista's here that have seen the beauty of the desert?


Day 1: Hyderabad - Omkareshwar



Leaving Hyderabad at 4:30am-5 am and plan to reach by 7 pm max. The breakdown has been planned in the following manner:

Hyderabad - Washim : 430 kms - 8 hours (avg speed at 53.75 km/hr. Initial 158 kms on this stretch is 4-lane)

Washim - Akola: 75 kms - 1.30 hours (Avg.speed 50 kms/hr)

Akola - Omkareshwar : 277 kms - 5 hours (Avg. speed of 55.4 kms/hr)

This is the only stretch in the entire trip which is the longest at 787 kms. Being the 1st day on the trip, I guess it's gonna test my driving skills and mental coolness

Day 2: Omkareshwar - Ujjain : 139 kms - 3 hours max (no hurry)




Day 3: Ujjain - Udaipur : 417 kms - 7 hours




Day 6: Ujjain - Mt.Abu : 165 kms - 3 hours




Day 8: Mt. Abu - Jaisalmer : 502 kms - 8-9 hours




Day 11: Jaisalmer - Jodhpur : 284 kms - 4-5 hours



Day 13: Jodhpur - Ajmer : 230 kms - 4 hours




Day 14: Ajmer - Jaipur : 151 kms - 3 hours




Day 17: Jaipur - Indore : 642 kms - 11 hours




Day 18: Indore - Nanded : 520 kms - 10 hours




Day 19:

Plan to return to Hyderabad on 16th September after doing darshan at Nanded.

The excitement within the family is growing as the dates inch closer. Bags are being taken down to be cleaned, list of clothes to pack are being prepared, list of new clothes to be bought is already ready and the timing could not be better with the discount season kicking in.

The tubeless puncture repair kit arrived yesterday from Storeji in a nice packing. Very simple to use.

More and more things are falling in place. Out of Office notifications have already been sent to the clients.

Hoping for the best to happen.

As days close by, things are shaping up for good.

Have got some more information on roads for Day 1 Trip from Hyderabad - Omkareshwar. As rains have progressed, the roads are in bad shape post Nanded towards Akola and the 520 km distance is being covered in 12 hours.

As am travelling with kids, I feel the bad roads will tire us more than driving for longer distances. So have thought of changing the route.

I now plan to do Hyd-Nagpur-Amravati-Akola.

Need concrete information on the Amravati-Akola route. Not sure if the road has been repaired or still an okay NH?

Nice background work for your trip Gaurav. Your hardwork and planning ahead is very visible here.
While you are at it, have you invested in a GPS device ? I think you should have one without fail and get familiarised with it beforehand. I am sure this will come very handy on your trip. You have a long journey, and it's very easy to miss a turn or two.

My trip is starting tomorrow. Will keep posting on FB on road conditions from time to time. Do check in there. However a travelogue would only come in after I return and once Ganpati celebrations are over.

Need expert suggestion on the road conditions, best one among these two routes

1.) Hyderabad - Adilabad - Nagpur - Betul - Bhopal - Kota

2.) Hyderabad - Sholapur - Pune - Nashik - Indore - Kota

The other option:

If one has to go via aurangabad, then might as well take the Hyd-Tuljapur-Aurangabad route as this one is now been filled up and is similar to the interior Maharashtra route. My friend did the Solapur-Hyd stretch and there is a stretch of 20 odd kms which is bad.

One can also do the Hyd-Nagpur-Amravati-Burhanpur-Indore stretch which is excellent (except a small patch of 50kms on Hyd-Nag road). You will constantly be within city limits on this road and hardly deserted. The only thing is that this ones 90 kms longer.

Hyderabad -Amravati - Indore - Udaipur

1) Google suggested route is fine for some night driving ?
2) I am trying to break this into a 2 day drive with sleepover at Amravati. Need suggestions for sleepover. Any other cities which I can select?

A better route would be Hyderabad-Aurangabad-Dhule-Ratlam-Nimbahera-Udaipur. GM Route.

The default route shown by GM takes you through some interior route from Ratlam to udaipur. Instead continue on the NH 79 till Nimbahera and turn left towards Udaipur. So you get to drive on the 4 lane highway from Dhule to Udaipur, except for a short distance from Nimbahera-Mangalwad which is also a tolled 2 lane road. You can target Aurangabad for the halt on first day.

Hi, Thanks a lot. So, about 75% of the road from Dhule to Udaipur is 4 laned. Wow, it means driving will be less stressful, particularly because I am planning for this in first week of July (It may start raining by then).

We took this stretch(Nimbahera -> Neemuch -> Ratlam -> Lebad -> Sendhwa -> Dhule) last month and its a superb 4L road, also the traffic was very less. But difficult to find good hotels to stop. So, better to have some backup junk food at least. We took this route to cover Jaipur - Pune.

For return journey, I am considering going via Pune so I can check out Malshej or Matheran.
From Udaipur, If I have to reach Pune, should I go thru Mumbai or can I take the same route
Udaipur - Nimbahera - Dhule - Pune

Udaipur - Nimbahera - Dhule - Pune

For Udaipur - Pune, better option would be Ahmedabad - Baroda - Surat - Mumbai - Pune. In Dhule route, Shirdi - Pune is not in great shape, plus this is a longer route.
