Re: Mumbai - Hampi : Route Queries

Hello All,

There are chances of a 5 day break in September, and I was keen on a road trip to Hampi from Mumbai with the wifey and a 3 Year Old. Wanted some advice and suggestions on the same. This is a tentative plan if Missus agrees to the Road Trip. The longest Road trip I have done is Mumbai - Rajkot a couple of times and that was easily done in a day (750 - 800 Kms), starting from Mumbai at 5:00 AM and reaching Rajkot by 6:00 after 2 breaks.

Anyways, this time I am with a toddler, and on roads that are unfamiliar, so here goes a very tentative plan:

6th September - leave at home by 5:00, pick wife from work at 6 - BKC, Mumbai (can be early if possible).
7:45 PM stop for dinner.
11:30. Halt at hotel for night.

7th September:
Leave by 7:30 AM
9:00 - Stop for breakfast
12:30-1:00 - Stop for lunch.
3.30/4:00 - Check in at hotel
Evening - enjoy hotel

8th September
Sight seeing

9th September
sight Seeing

10th September
Check out at 12:00
Stop for lunch
Drive till 7:30/8:00 and check in at hotel

11th September
Leave by 8:30 AM
Reach home by 6.:00 PM

We will be driving in a Petrol AT Alcazar. Wanted suggestions on best routes to take, and where should I probably take halts for the nights on both the sides.

Any advice and help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Mumbai - Hampi : Route Queries

Er... so much planning and thought for a simple drive that's little more than a local groceries drive?

You have lovely highways all the way through. Leave early in the morning and be there for a late lunch. Repeat on the return.

Cheers

Re: Mumbai - Hampi : Route Queries

Thanks Mate,

However, I haven't done much driving on that route before and hence am unfamiliar with the route. Therefore was wondering what was the best route to take. So far I am leaning towards:

Bombay - Pune - Satara - Karad - Belgavi - Hospet - Hampi.

However, any inputs on routes would be appreciated.

Regards

Hi, which route did you take eventually. I am planning to drive from Mumbai tomorrow around 12pm, cannot start earlier. So most likely will take an overnight halt at Belgaum.

Would appreciate any suggestions from anyone for pit-stops (fuel and food) after Pune till Belgaum, and then between Belgaum and Hampi the next day. Attached is the route that I am planning to go with. Thanks!

I did take this exact same route in early September and at that time it was just bad. No other way to put it. You are traveling on a working day and might hopefully avoid some crazy that traffic on expressway.

I had left at 4:30 AM and was stuck in Ghat traffic for over 2 hours at that hour. After that for 45 odd mins in Pune - Bangalore Highway. After that sailing till Satara is fine. Satara - Kolhapur stretch was challenging with plenty of diversions.

My first night halt was at Hubli. I managed to reach by 9 after 2 breaks.

For food I stopped at second food plaza at expressway and then at Vitthal Kamat after Satara. But there is no dearth of food and fuel options on this route.

The road from Belgavi - Hampi is a breeze for the most part and is really enjoyable. It is only Satara - Kolhapur stretch that is annoying.

Have a safe drive.

Re: Mumbai - Hampi : Route Queries

I am planning to do a Mumbai-Hampi road trip. The last few posts mentions taking the Satara-Kolhapur-Belagavi-Hospet road. However, Google Maps shows the Solapur-Vijayapura-Hospet road.

1. Which of these is better if we leave by 11-12 noon? Does the route choice change if we leave early morning and aim to reach on the same day?

2. If one has to take a stop in between, which is the better city to take a stop at (so that journey can be broken for rest) which includes some simple site seeing?

3. Any stay recommendation in Hospet for 3 nights?

4. Are there any government registered guides available in Hampi? What are their rates?

5. Anything specific to see in Hampi ruins apart from the main temple? Anything outside to see?

6. Any other tips on stops on the highway, etc.?

TIA

Hi

I'm also planning a road trip in December & had the exact same questions on the route (the Google map confusion).
Let me know when you're traveling. I plan to go around Christmas.
