2. How is the Naxalite situation in north-east tourist destinations ? I do not want to end up like Arvind Swamy in Roja.

I came back from Uttarkashi after getting stuck for around 8 days (on our way back after a trek). The road conditions esp from haridwar-chamba, haridwar-srinagar is OK after which the roads are just non-existent! By Feb I am sure that all these roads would be up as it is the main route (link road as the locals call it there) connecting gangotri/yamunotri/badri/kedar. There are a lot of places on these roads: auli is one of the most amazing destinations and in the month of Feb, it will be mind-blowing!

Again: for sure, the roads will be fine by the end of Oct! Mussoorie is a good place for honey-mooners but again pretty crowded! There are a lot of small beautiful places which i'd prefer than mussoorie.

Also, if money is not a concern (I am not a beach person) then try out the bangaram islands in Lakshadeep. They are just beautiful and very few people actually go there!

You've got some great suggestions. Just remember that honeymoon is a state of mind and the location doesn't matter much. Just pick a location and get on with it. Don't let excessive and meticulous planning play spoil sport.

Rohan

Congratulations !! Wish you a great life ahead.

The hill stations that I suggest are Shillong and Gangtok

Shillong - A beautiful hill station in the north eastern part of our country. February will be a good time to visit Shillong as peak winters would have ended and the weather would be great. It has a lot of scenic points like Umiam Lake, Shillong Peak ,Wards Lake, some beautiful churches etc.

You could also travel to Cherrapunji and Mawsyanram which are very popular for caves, waterfalls and view points.

Gangtok - Another beautiful hill station is Gangtok in Sikkim.

February would be a good time to visit but the best time would be April because April is the month for Orchid shows in Gangtok.

Gangtok has a lot of monasteries, beautiful frozen lakes like the Changhu Lake , some beautiful orchid gardens etc.

Have a nice trip.

Could you please provide some details of this location.
- What kind of place is this ?
- What are the sight seeing spots here ?
- And most importantly, what makes it so romantic ?

Even though I come from Bhopal, I am yet to visit many famous tourist spots in MP.

Rohan, my hearty congratulation!!!!... Wishing you success and good luck!!

I am getting married in January, I was at the point of opening a thread to discuss the honey moon locations, that is when I came across this thread.
Rohan, Sorry to hijack this thread & putting forward my query..

I had the following options in mind:
Andamans
Munnar
Lakshadweep
Shimla kulu manali
Kumarakom
Coorg.

What I have finally decided, I have kept aside 7-8 days for my trip to kumarakom and coorg.
1.) After my marriage reception, Journey from Chennai to Kumarakom (2 days 1 night stay).
2) Kottayam to Kochin by bus, Take the flight to Bangalore, reach blore which is followed by over night journey to coorg.
3.) Stay in a resort in coorg, 3 days 4 nights
4.) Return to Chennai.

Appreciate if you could comment on my above plan, I have no idea of the resorts to book in Coorg. Is kabini nearby coorg? Can it be clubbed?

Option 2
Chennai-Bangalore-Coorg-Wayanad-Bangalore-Chennai

Congrats Rohan and join the club!

Of all suggestions, +1 to what MX6 & GTO said. Absolutely no mobile connectivity and spend as much time with each other as possible.

From my limited experience, a few places with almost zero cellular phone connectivity but excellent climate and scenic-but-not-much-sight-seeing-to-be-done kind of places are:
1) If you and your wife are the adventerous type, one of the tiger reserves in MH or MP - Tadoba or Pench. Only 2 safari's are allowed here per day, each of 2 hours and the rest of the time is for the newly weds! As per me, nothing can beat the seclusion in a forest!
2) Mulshi in MH near pune - relatively untouched. There are ample of resorts with good food and the best part is you dont have to walk out of the hotel to enjoy the excellent scenery.

Options 1 - Aint this require more days, I am restricting myself to 2 locations now. Visit the 3rd one after 2 months of marriage :-)

option 2 sound good too, any specific reason both coorg and wayanad would go well, aren't they hill stations? Please advise

appreciate your inputs

A lot depends on what interests the lady. Many women would anyday pass on a remote nature location to spend time browsing in quaint market places and dining out at fascinating eateries. Rajasthan is a heady mix of heritage, opulence and unbelievable market places. Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur will be a wow trip if you choose the right accommodation.

Guess the Hill Station

Hi all,

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions.

I am back from the honeymoon.

I was earlier planning to visit Manali, but decided on another hill station because of better connectivity.

Attaching some pics from the trip, lets see if you can identify the place.

Tea Gardens.

The road, which leads to the hill station, runs parallel to this river.
