Re: Suggestions needed for Honeymoon destinations in India

The tea estates of Darjeeling, the snow on the way to Tsomgo Lake/Nathu La and the beautiful Teesta River. Nothing short of paradise. I hope I guessed the places right !!

Re: Suggestions needed for Honeymoon destinations in India

Yes guys, you all guessed it right. Full marks to you and JK steel radials.

We went to Gangtok (capital of Sikkim) and visited the nearby spots.

The photos are Temi tea gardens, route to Tsomgo lake/Nathu la pass and Teesta river respectively.

It snowed so much (even in the month of Feb) that the road to Tsomgo/Nathu la pass was blocked. Hence, we could not visit these 2 spots.

Gangtok is like a paradise on earth. I would definitely visit this place again in the future. Highly recommended.

Re: Suggestions needed for Honeymoon destinations in India

Guys, hijacking this thread to plan for a honeymoon destination.

I am getting married and planning my honeymoon in the week of 22nd dec to 28th dec. Need to finalize on a destination by this week and book the tickets. We are getting married at Kerala and I am planning my trip from Bangalore. I had almost finalized on a package to Kashmir (Srinagar-Gulmarg-Pahalgham 5 nights) but just talked to a friend who did the same trip and he is advising against it, due to the political situation and the security issues there (Apparently when he went there was a curfew), is it worth taking the risk? Any other suggestions?

We are looking at a place to relax and have some fun, not so keen on spending everyday roaming around sightseeing.

If nothing works out, my default fallback option is Goa

Re: Suggestions needed for Honeymoon destinations in India

Thanks sinner, that sounds assuring. Aren't the shikaras centrally heated?

The package I have is for 5 nights, 2 night stay in shikara, one night srinagar. I have an option of staying in Gulmarg and Pahalgham or visiting there and coming back to Srinagar for the night stay.

How was the weather during that time? Will there be road blocks due to snowfall?

I am also open to other options, don't mind beaches or mountains, but not Goa, since that is any day doable from Bangalore. We are looking to visit an exotic place. I am looking at Auli, will have to ring up the clifftop resort to check the availability and rates.

I would suggest Himachal Pradesh since you are getting married in December. A lot safer than J&K and would be covered with snow. But to be honest, if I had to choose between J&K and Himachal, I would take J&K. It is indeed a heaven on earth.

PS: I have spent 8 years there.

Hi,

I would suggest you to try Vythiri resorts wayanad for the honeymoon.

I spent my honeymoon there, and am sure it is one place that would surely make your honeymoon a worth one. But don't forget to ask for the tree house which is one of its kind and a real experience.

I have visited J&K for seven times so far (during Amarnath yatra period - June- July) - when terrorist activities get heightened and so does security.

The media always portrays a grim situation of Kashmir- not sure why. Things are blown out of proportion in most cases. If I were you, I would ignore that and go ahead. However, houseboats are in filthy waters. The water that comes in inside the bathrooms have a bad odor and yellow colour. I would never use that option to stay.

The valley is indeed beautiful - though I am not sure how it would be during winters (never been there).

Remove your fear.
J&K is not less safer than your home town.

Re: Suggestions needed for Honeymoon destinations in India

S_U_N, thanks for the reassuring words. In fact I spoke to a couple of blokes online who have visited the valley recently and they are also of the same opinion.

I have decided to go ahead and have booked my tickets from 22nd dec to 26th dec. Planning to stay one night in a houseboat, one night at pahalgham and 2 nights at Srinagar.

One thing I noticed after checking with a lot of travel agents (makemytrip, travelmasti etc) are that they all have a pre-defined set of hotels and routes which they can provide accomodation. Going by the tripadvisor reviews, none of them are even remotely good. So I am now thinking of making the hotel and car rental bookings myself, and surprisingly it is working out a bit cheaper as well.

Any suggestions about the hotels to stay and places to visit are most welcome.

I have the below hotels in consideration.
1) At Srinagar: bloomingdale, dar-e-salam and some others
2) Pahalgham: hotel pahalgham, pine n peak, pine springs and JKTDC guest house
3) Houseboat: newluckystar, mandalay.
4) Car rental: Planning to either take a day rental or asking for a package for my itinerary.

Re: Suggestions needed for Honeymoon destinations in India

One could try the Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal. Beautiful, serene, peaceful and completely secluded from bustling city-life. If you're adventurous, you could try driving to Leh-Ladakh and spend a week in the mountains.

Which is the best place to go on a honeymoon?

Hi all,

I am getting married on 10th December 2012 in Gujarat. I am planning for a honeymoon during the last week of December for a period of 6-7 days. I have already checked this thread on

honeymoon suggestions, however I am starting this new thread to know more about the best hotels and packages I can opt for based on your suggestions and experience. We would love to visit hill stations instead of beaches.

We have shortlisted Ooty, Kodaikanal, Munnar, Wayanad in south India.

Now the question in my mind is how to visit these places. I am really confused whether to travel by private taxi (per KM basis) or book a package from yatra/makemytrip.com/travel guru or travel by train and book a honeymoon package with the hotel.

1. I have come across some very good travel packages offered by make my trip and travel guru. However I am not sure of the services included in the package like the hotel and sight seeing will be good and up to the mark. Please help me on this if anyone of you have booked a travel/honeymoon package from make my trip which includes food, sight seeing.

Makemytrip is offering 2 nights in munnar, ooty and kodaikanal for a price of 17k.

2. Going by private taxi: Will this be a good option to travel by a private taxi (Innova)at 12/- per Km. Driver knows all the routes and the starting point of the journey will be Chennai. On the way we would like to cover, Ooty, Munnar, Wayanad and back to chennai. Please advise.

3. Travelling on our own: Book the train tickets, book the hotel in Munnar. Please advise if this is good option but Guess I have to spend money on sight seeing, food and travelling.

We will be restricting the stay at one point and spend couple of days instead of visiting too many places. So please let me know good budget hotels in Munnar and wayanad that includes good stay with quality vegetarian food.
