what car do u drive now? After driving an Ikon 1.6 or Honda City it will feel sluggish... else its fine in the city.
One of my friend has the ikon 1.3... gives him 12-13 kmpl in city and 15-16 on the highway 100+ all the time.

thanks for the replies.
I saw ford fiesta and went for a test drive in it, the car seem to be very smooth but the base model on road comes upto 6.28 which is out of budget and dealers are not ready to offer any discounts too, thats why i stepped back to ikon .
i found swift very attractive but iam looking for boot space too , which is bit cramped in swift.

yet to try esteem, plans to test drive it this weekend

A colleague of mine has the same predicament.
Ikon Flair - he found it sluggish.
Accent - Yet to try
Fiesta 1.4 EXi - 6.35 .. out of his budget

He went to a MUL dealer. Quotes ...
Esteem VXi - 5.06 OTR
Baleno LXi - 5.70 OTR (plus free audio system)

They are trying to sell him the Baleno .. looks like he might take the bait !

Ikon: Super handling,decent ride,more strongly built,decent quality interiors,ok engine and FE(10kpl with AC)Bottomline:Excellent driver's car,but just 70bhp underhood.

Esteem: sober handling with body-roll,weaker body-shell,ancient interiors, EXCELLENT 85 bhp engine and FE(13kpl with AC).Bottomline:Ageing car except for its engine.

I'd strongly suggest a Baleno to U. Chennai still hasn't met the Baleno Bug.
So, haggle strongly and u might get it for 5.6 to 5.7 lakhs.Confirm the order.

Couldn't have put it better.

But if the Baleno is out of your reach then i guess the ikon wins over the esteem in all parameters, and the new flair with the Ikon 1.6 bumpers look way better than the age old esteem. The only region where the esteem scores over the flair is in the FE.

You know what? The poor guy has his heart set on a booted car. He already has a hatch and now wants to stretch a bit and buy a "bigger" car. Why are you people suggesting him hatch options?

I feel venkatesh that if you can stretch a bit more see if you can go for the Baleno. With some negotiation the LXi now comes for around 5.8L otr. Thats not a very big hike from your 5.5 budget. And yet the car is a hoot to drive. Yes, just like the Esteem and Ikon this one is also dated. However where it actually makes up is in the fact that it is indeed a bigger car and has a performance and FE that will make you smile.

However, yes, if that "bigger, booted" car is not necessarily what you are looking for then do give the Swift a very very hard look. It is a stupendous performer in its category.

If you are willing to shell 5.82 for Baleno, than stretch a bit further and buy the Ford Fiesta for 6.28. Th 46k stretch is worth it in my opinion. If you are on a loan, it will just amount to 800 Rs per month or so. If you wait for a few months, you might get insurance free with Fiesta.
Baleno and Fiesta has been heavily debated in other threads, although Baleno stands out in performance, FE, and cost of ownership, but its really dated.
With Fiesta you can enjoy owning a new car, people watching your car, better interiors etc.
Although criterias differ for different people, but I would choose Fiesta over Baleno, as Baleno is getting dated, and might be discontinued in the near future.

"My daddy's big car" is not at all big inside. Back seats are extemely uncomfortable. It appears too fagile and skinny.

Are you refering to the 1.6. I though Fiesta 1.4 is only 5.85.
