Re: Fastest car (20-100 kmph) at 8L, 12L, 16L?

Cedia will kill all of them in straight line barring the magnum.

Re: Fastest car (20-100 kmph) at 8L, 12L, 16L?

I am also in the same dilemma.
Looking for the best drivers car on he side of 10L
Choices are:-
1) Vento D + petes powerbox
2) Linea T-Jet+

Other options:-
3) Fiesta 1.6 S
4) Verna + petes powerbox
5) Optra Magnum + petes powerbox
6) Cedia Sports

Main requirements are
Performance
*Looking mainly for low and midrange grunt.
*Least turbo lag. Since city driving is the major part.
*Neck snapping acceleration, Instant response.
*Formidable engine braking.
*Can compromise top end as rarely I go over 5K in my petrol. Don't like her screaming.
*FE is not important that much but diesel is very much welcome.

Handling
*Sudden lane changes with minimum body roll.
*Confident braking.
*Low CG.
*Grip not much of an issue. (Upgrade to wider tyres later on)

Dont care about features, bells and whistles.
Space is not a concern.
Looks can be compromised both in and out.

Now considering only T-jet and Vento D (Petes) what do you say?
Considering both performance and handling together.

Or do I wait for Fiesta Diesel 1.6 or fiat Linea multijet 1.6.

Oxygen - Going by your requirements get the Vento D and the petes box after a few thousand kms. Since you said you dont like top end, a petrol is not for you. Also the Vento is better than the Magnum when it comes to handling. With the tuning box the power would be up to 130bhp I think.

Manishk - I know you dont want a used car, but just for the sake of the discussion. A used Accord V6 from 2007 would be available for around 10l. And it does 0-140 in 15.06 seconds (by autocar), which beats all besides the Q7 in the list anshuman posted on the previous page.

Have driven the Vento D. GOOD car no doubt. Should provide you with the performance you are looking for. Pete it and you get a lot more than you asked for. Besides, is there any news of the Fiat MJD 1.6 launching in the near future ? Then its worth the wait. If its tentative, then surely not & as i said, the Vento D is a fantastic performer.

Re: Fastest car (20-100 kmph) at 8L, 12L, 16L?

Thankyou all for your replies. If I understand correctly, the cars that are fastest to 100 kmph at their price points are:

1. 16L -
a) Petrol - Laura TSi
b) Diesel - Pete'd Laura TDi

2. 12L -
a) Petrol - Linea T-Jet or ANHC! PS: Wouldn't Cedia feature here?
b) Diesel - Pete'd Vento D (best @ 12L)

3. 8L -
a) Petrol - Fiesta 1.6
b) Diesel - Hyundai i20

Yes sathya, I would drive carefully. In fact, I am not looking at purchasing a non-ABS model. I have realised how important an ABS can be. Though, by now, I've learned to sort of take foot off the brake as soon as I feel a skid happening in a hard braking situation, and then pressing it again etc. Don't even know if I'll get used to an ABS; and not try to do an ABS's work manually!

Though airbags, probably not! I somehow feel air bags are not really helpful unless you have atleast 4 of them per front passenger - frontal, knee, side & curtain. And the knee airbag doesn't start until you have a budget of 20L plus. So, until I can afford such an amount, I'll trust my wit.

Oh! I am actually a very safe driver (even though it's me saying so!). I rather err on the side of caution: slowing down even if I feel that someone standing on the divider might decide to cross the road all of a sudden; and never take unenecessary risks on 2-lane highways.

Yes Akshay, I agree. A used Accord is awesome. I have diven an AT version. But, this time I want to get the feeling of taking care of my baby since birth and seeing her start walking (run-in period) and see her growing in front of me.

May be they can do 170 but it feels really scary at those speeds unlike the Linea / Vento. What is the point in getting a car that will go all the way to 170 but will float and un-inspire confidence within the driver? just my opinion..no offenses meant to anyone here pls.
Yes Sathya_sc, I feel more comfortable doing 120's in Linea than in ANHC. The steering in ANHC can feel disconnected at triple digit speed.I perfer HPS anyday.

I have been informed that Pete's Powerbox for Vento 1.6D is still not available in India for sale. But it will be in near future. I very much agree with you on installing the Power box after a few thousand kms say 10K. Thereby not affecting the running in and also able to get a feel on the improvement the box can make.
However I really dont think it will take the power to 130. And I dont care. The car should feel faster and that is most important. BTW do you have any idea if the powerbox can reduce the turbo lag any further.

A power box claims improvement in torque of 20% throughout the entire rev range. So one can expect it can reduce 0-100 timing and in gear acceleration by atleast 10%. That can make Vento as fast as Honda city. I just cant imagine what the in gear acceleration will be like.

About the fastest
1. 16L -
a) Petrol - Laura TSi > Civic > Corolla
b) Diesel - Pete'd Cruze > Pete'd Laura TDi

2. 12L -
a) Petrol - ANHC > T-Jet
b) Diesel - Pete'd Magnum > Pete'd Verna > Pete'd Vento D

3. 8L -
a) Petrol - Fiesta 1.6 > Etios > SX4
b) Diesel - I20 > Punto Sports

Cars i bold is the most fun to drive.

How about civic? Otherwise Laura 1.8 is the best option. But are you ready for Skoda?

That's Peter's Vento.
I'm sure it will be available soon, if not now.

Re: Fastest car (20-100 kmph) at 8L, 12L, 16L?

^^ You cannot buy a driver's car using your brains this side of 12L. The Cruze is a Depreciation disaster(If one actually finds it a real driver's car), Laura is expensive to maintain(Both TSi and TDi), Civic is due for replacement soon and is overpriced, Altis is the least driver focussed car in the segment, Jetta looks dated and has the diesel engine in the lowest state of tune(110hp) without the DSG option. I was in a similar confusion some time back, i ended up buying Laura DSG 140. I know it will be expensive to maintain but i found the balance between Performance and economy(Running cost) to be closest to my requirement. If i had to buy a Manual i would pick the Cruze LT for the sheer VFM it offers.

I don't deny the numbers but ikon 1.6 and fiesta 1.6 both have the low end which pastes a smile in the city ( the best accelerator response). On long highway runs it loses the race vis a vis competition.
