firework!
definitely yes!!
No, i will not do it but my kids will do it.

I used to enjoy them hugely when I was a lot younger, would spend a lot of time and money. The zest has waned substantially in the past decade, but not disappeared completely!:D I enjoy lighting them in the company of my kid, so will do it for this Diwali too, though it will be more of fire works than crackers.

However idealistic we are, they can't be avoided totally as long as there are small kids in the house. Further, lighting of fire works is part of the ritual of Diwali in many south Indian families. Even feeble grand mothers will light at least one sparkler on that day. As for using child labour, I think all large brands have left the practice behind and even carry a label to that effect on the packs.

no way
first - I cant stand noisy crackers. my dogs also cant stand the noise.
since we've always had dogs, i havent burst crackers ever since I was very young. ive never been able to handle the noise.

I will however have a small puja, light some little oil lamps at home and place a few flower pots outside on Diwali day so that the triumph of good over evil can be celebrated with LIGHT!

all litter/ burnt out flower pot cases etc shall be carefully picked up, bagged and sent away with the trash collecting van after the festival.

Having said this, I wish everyone here a happy, prosperous, healthful, safe and LITTER FREE Diwali!

Except for one 1000wala rest all the stuff picked up are fireworks. Picked them up at Hosur on the way back from Bangalore last weekend.

I have never burned crackers in my entire life and never will. It is a polution in every sence.

I would, my daughter waits for this festival. Any idea what the discount is going at Hosur.

We already did. I fixed a budget - the cracker budget was rs. 500.

My son had 4 of his friends over. They did a laxmi puja (conducted by my wife), burnt a few non-noisy crakers under supervision and ate a few sweets.

The prerequesite for each kid was to bring 4 toys they would donate to an orphange.

Yesi like eveyrthing loud:
have a loud bike, have loud car, have a loud stereo system, Have no reason why i should not burst crackers.

wishing everyone a bright, colorfull and a loud (in some peoples cases) diwali

cheers,
ac

Crackers can't be avoided in as much as the industries belching smoke around the year, jets flying all over the world, millions of cars on roads, all polluting the environment.

What can be done is perhaps for a few families pool in and jointly celebrate instead of each home buying loads of crackers. This way you have more fun, costs less and overall consume less.

Quite sometime back I stopped all the "bomb" crackers, we enjoy the flower pots and the phool jhadi and some zameen chakkar and a few rockets.

Will burn some sparklers and flower pots for my kids, no crackers. Hate them

Chill dude, no one is getting offensive or defensive here but just merely posting their own viewpoints. If I don't agree to someone's view that doesn't always mean hostility. Happy Diwali in advance.

No, its more than a decade since i touched one. I hate the noise, can't stand it :(

Looking at the pollution in cities i guess we should avoid them. better in every city there should be a fireshow in one location on diwali so people can enjoy them.

Good thread!
We usually used to do so. This time we decided against it in a family meeting. I offered my son that the choice was his, but the budget is still available. He made a wise decision. " I do not want to blow my budget on cracker, I would rather buy a Lambo reventon" Later, his budget was just enough for a Lancer Evo, but not Lambo. He is still happy.

Yes, like every year. However, we never buy the noisy stuff. Discount in Hosur is reported to be 80% (Standard) and upto 90% (other brands)
