Re: Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?

Yes! Morning Marathi newspaper along with a cup of tea is a must for me!
Online news doesn't have charm of a physical paper. And it also helps in digital detox.

Meanwhile today's TOI came up with this

Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?-img_4222.jpeg

These errors are rare and I still find newspapers as one of the best companions every morning.

Re: Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?

I get Mid-day and TOI delivered to my home. I can't start my day without having a read through with a cuppa tea in my hand. Used to subscribe to The Hindu and still believe they are the best English newspaper out there if you are interested in national politics, but for me I found the content to be national news oriented vis-à-vis Mumbai and Maharashtra.

Its just shocking to see the shoddy newspaper reporting nowadays and that may be the primary reason for its decline. More than investigative journalism, we now have propaganda being shoved up our throats. The future is "X' for sure.

A day for me can't be complete without a reading a newspaper. My family gets The Hindu from a nearby vendor every morning and thankfully all the hostels and library in my university have subscriptions to most english newspapers and magazines.

Re: Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?

Yes always had newspaper delivered at door step, since my father's time in the 50's till date.

During my stay in Riyadh, my morning tea/coffee was in a Mallu restaurant with two steaming idli/iddiyappam and Gulf news.

Now I've switched to Dainik Jagaran since I came back. And my 2 Tipsy and Sherry have a good time chasing and barking the newspaper wala

Reading the newspaper with the morning cup of tea is an ingrained habit, I read the Indian Express, HT and Mint (though HT only because there was a bundle offer with Mint) but have supplemented newspapers with online news sources as well.

Re: Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?

We get TOI and Maharashtra Times delivered daily. Earlier we had subscribed BS and Mint also, but stopped them couple of months ago.
Agreed that newspapers are available in digital format, but feeling of having physical copy in hand always different. Also it helps to get away from mobile, laptop,Tv screens.

Re: Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?

We stopped getting the newspapers delivered home once COVID hit and it has been all online for our family since then. Getting up to date instantly has made us not feel the need for a newspaper at home and even if we wanted we would read the e-paper if required.

Re: Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?

I have been reading The Hindu ever since I was introduced to it by my father. We currently have a subscription for the print edition and it's a morning routine to peruse the paper with a cup of coffee or tea.

Re: Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?

Question for Bengalureans - Do you get Mint newspaper in Bengaluru? I vaguely remember that they launched it here, but not sure. Mint has some good articles, mostly behind their subscription paywall, and I don't want to subscribe digitally (to reduce screen usage also).

I used to take it for a while (few months), but eventually stopped for a reason that is not relevant to this thread. To answer the question - yes, it is available here through the morning newspaper delivery system.

Re: Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?

100% and will continue to do so. From the time I was about 7, I have always read the newspaper every single morning and my daily routine feels incomplete on holidays with no issue of the paper. We stick to TOI+HT combo and while in Mumbai and Bangalore, the Mirror as well. Something about the convenience of the half size, almost magazine like newspaper was thrilling as a child.
While in the past few months I haven't had as much time to read the newspapers, they are still delivered everyday and lie in a pile waiting to be read.
While the convenience of real time updates and being able to read anywhere is quite useful and I do sometimes read the news on my phone, the newspaper is just an emotional part of me.

Cheers
SB

Re: Do you still get newspapers delivered at home?

Have been reading newspapers since I was a 7-8 year old. It was The Hindu initially, TOI when we moved to Mumbai and returning to The Hindu again in Chennai. In the past 10 years have tried Deccan Herald, Hindustan times, TOI, The Hindu at various points before settling to Indian Express currently. I am happy to pick up and read it everyday. I consume news from internet, TV also but there's some charm about the newspaper.
